Quest levels

There has been a huge amount of randomness in quest level ranges lately. No matter the reason, it sure would be nice if a few were raised a bit to support more 9s and 10s on them.

You won't see someone just spamming them to 11, as they give very minimal XP, and supplies at the upper end are very very hard to acquire as of late. Any chance of seeing some of these pushed up, revamped, or whatever else might happen to allow this change?

Furthermore, yes, high levels should be doing "more than questing", but it would certainly be nice to be able to without making up silly excuses and sitting around bored while most others are infact off doing those things. Questing does not mean a lack of RP is happening!

You may want to try exploring some more, we have quite a few quests to support these level ranges.

In my experience, exploring Ymph for random areas is more rewarding than questing. That said, the very difficult quests shouldn't have upper limits, in my opinion. Makes perfect sense for a 10 to go on orcs quests or try and fight the Ghula.

Axiom

I like this idea as well. As long as the xp curve continues down, would it be possible to increase the level limit on some of the max 9 quests to max 12 (11 being the practical level maximum, and even then hard as hell to reach)? The idea would be you can still do them and have fun, but understand you will get almost zero xp reward. Not a DM, but it seems most of the high level characters are already heavily engaged in the story arc so that shouldnt be an issue either. Thoughts?

Wild Card

I'd like to make a radical suggestion all together and get rid of quest levels and rather have the difficulity of the quest be scaled to the average level of the party which means everybody can do every quest but have a different experience based on what range they are. For instance a group of lower levels will have an easier time rather than a group of more higher levels which will encounter more foes as well as being more hard to kill. This would take some scripting but I beta tested a server that did this method and it was quite fun as the experience was different depending on which level I was.

Corrigo

The above suggestion is extremely difficult due to the fact that almost all quests have specific encounters scripted into them, some of which (like big bosses) are impossible to scale down, some of which (like goblin mobs) are pointless to scale up.

Otherwise there would have to be scripting to alter the stats of every single monster that is spawned depending on party power, which I expect will be a huge amount of work if not simply impossible.

"Some scripting" is like saying building a house takes a little bit of hammering and planks. Without trying to sound overly obnoxious, that is just undermining the amount of scripting put to EfU. There are thousands over thousands lines of code in things that you folks think are simple.

The matter of fact stands, that we do not want some higher levels going around smacking some really petty goblin cult of few members, even if they did not get any exp for it. It just does not really fit their status, most of the time.

It also would not remove the difficulty of balancing supplies, which again would take just a little scripting (Insert irony). Beta testing something that has not been running over year or two won't show you the bloat of supplies it could cause or the possible bugs that might be present in balancing it. In our amateur environment where we play and do things out of interest and on our spare time, I take beta testing as a jolly joke. It is something that they will have to work for years and constantly keep balancing.

It frankly, all to all, is nice idea, but not worth the time and effort to even find out if we could do it - because even if we could, it would take time that none of us have or wishes to put into it when we could focus on things that bring so much more to the server and playing that just doing granary for the rest of your life.

god, totally, why arent you exploring????

i agree with King's post, its become pretty standard to reach 10 tbh and while there are quests to enjoy one's self I feel like there wouldn't be much of a difference with allowing, with these new quests, for the max to be 10. It seems to, honestly, feel like the dms are punishing those who can reach level 10 rather than forcing them to seek alternatives/new adventure.
