Limit overuse of potions - introduce intoxication level feature?

Feasible or not?

Some of you might have played the Witcher - if you drank too many magical elixirs, you started having all kind of negative toxic effects, making the choice of what to drink something to think about.

Could be explained in the FR world as a side effect of the Withering and might be an interesting balancing element in EfU.

I'd like to point out that with the games difficulty set at what it is, maintaining potion buffs is not only advisable but necessary both for scripted quests and DM Spice/Events. Increased dispelling or limiting potion intake would require re-balancing the servers spawns, item drops, and spell limitations to be fair. Buff items, particularly potions, are an incredibly integral part of EFU's balance as it stands.

The only place where I can even perceive this to be a problem is in high level pvp/duels, when both combatants have vast amounts of supplies, it can seem as if wins come down to who has the most potions and in what order you drink them. Even then, creativity and mechanical know-how always trumps chug-play.

The only way I would support this is if I drink enough potions it makes me piss magical rainbows.

PS: This would make non-potion reliant self buff classes even more powerful and be a nerf-bat for fighters, rogues, and sundry.

A lot of throwable dispelling objects have already been added to enemies. Having a penalty for drinking potions as well would be crippling. Especially when fighting against some event champion that has near 30 ab and hits 20 damage. There are so very many situations where you need to spam potions constantly, spice and normal.

lol thank god this isnt 2nd edition DnD xD drinking two or more potions subjected you to a potion mixing roll which in turn could be either really good, or really bad. sorry this is not relevant i know

The good and simpler idea Caddies had was to introduce more dispelling items in the module.

How about something more common to coat your blade with that dispels on hit, for instance?

Then there's also a possible return of the magic eaters from the underdark days. I imagine they could be tweaked to respond to potions as well as spells.

i think this would be silly, especially when spamming healing potions to save your life

With wild magic to maybe kill you every time you drink a minor heal, I think this problem was dealt with suitably.

I really don't know. Yes, the high level duels can seem a bit absurd, but are they really that common? As to the mass brawl PvPs, they tend to even out, potion-wise. For better or worse, EfU is currently a potion rich environment; changing that would require a LOT of fiddling to achieve a new equilibrium -- in which self-buffer classes would be the new gods.

It might be doable, but it is a mighty big step to take.

I remember it all the way back from the original AD&D and we all lived in mortal terror of it. I even saw it in use a couple of times. No deaths occurred though it came close once... o.o
