Chorus enters from left stage and crosses to center stage

Chorus:
To my guests I offer this tale
About the man in the village of Greyvale
A lumberjack with a love for ale
And of the man whom he makes wail,

A handsome man of Crowly fair
Who has been named Greyvale's Mayor
To this man is held such contempt
Yet none the people wish him exempt,

His daughter one of such high degree
That all men in town would quite agree
To her words that the people love
That they treat the mayor as a dove,

Our scene takes place at ungodly hour
Right after meal's devour
The woman have put away their flour
To hear the mayor's speech upon his tower.

Scene opens upon Remus and Meradwin Crowly standing over the villagers Barnabas, Khaern, and Norn whom are sitting down. Remus is dressed in fine very baggy purple attire covered in dazzling jewels so much he has to constantly pull it up pr reveal his unders. while the fair Meradwin is dressed in a white dress and has a necklace upon her neck. Barnabas, Khaern, and Norn are dressed in simple leathers, stained with dirt. Barnabas stares at Meradwin while Khaern and Norn stare at Remus who begins to speak:

Remus:
To my people whom I hold so high
We must wish some of our free time goodbye!
If our village is to be rich
Our fun we must simply ditch!

Khaern:
Rather than do what he says to make us rich-

Norn:
We make sure he walks with a hitch!?

The two broad fellows laugh as they crack jokes, Remus is about to comment when Meradwin breaks in:

Meradwin:
All jokes aside
To my father's words we must abide!

Barnabas:
Sweet Meradwin is right
For we must see things in their light!
To her words we must hold right and near,
else we all will have hunger to fear.
Brothers Khaern and Norn,
Shut your traps for they make us worn.
Lord-Mayor Remus please continue,
so we can make this village bright and new.

Remus:
Ehem! To ease this village's plight,
We must not simply take flight.
Decrease the rations and decrease our fear,
I am sorry these are the words you must hear.

Remus, Norn, and Kaern exit right, Meradwin is about to exit right then stops as Barnabas begins to speak:

Barnabas:
My muscles poised with each chop of an axe,
but it cannot be that way forever with this tax.
If I could have the money I would ask her hand,
But if I did I am sure her father to me would reprimand!
Oh that Meradwin how she glows,
yet her sweet lips I shall never know!
For her father be the greatest bum,
I will just have to keep drinking rum.

He exits left stage, Meradwin follows him

ACT 2

Scene opens upon Barnabas chopping potential fire wood with his fine hatchet. His shirt is off and his muscles bulging. A curious Meradwin looks afar at right stage, then tries to sneak up on him, Barnabas hears her but does not see her. He shouts:

Barnabas:
What maiden disturbs my work!?
I must warn you I have a dirk!
So come out heathen that lurks,
Or I might simply go berserk!

Meradwin:
Oh youth so divine,
I did not think I go find a lad so fine!
Seeing yourself so hard working and strong,
I find not a thing in you wrong!

Barnabas:
If these words are true they be,
how about you lay with me?
Here under the forest canopy.

Meradwin:
To that act I must explain,
It is to me rather lame.
How about you head with me boy,
and you can treat me like your toy?
For of your name Barnabas I love you so,
And to this love it shall not have woe!

Barnabas pulls Meradwin close and they tenderly kiss, and exit left stage. As they exit Kaern and Norn enter stage right. Kaern laughs but Norn gives him a good slap and whispers:

Norn:
Isn't such true that this dame was to be married?
And to Amn she would be carried?
If this act be real,
How would the Mayor feel?

Kaern:
Indeed... Wait what do you mean brother?

Norn:
Although to Barnabas we would betray,
If we tell the Mayor there could be pay.
For if Meradwin loves him so,
the Mayor would be best to know.

Kaern and Norn exit right stage. The couple Meradwin and Barnabas come back, their clothes wrinkled and hair a mess:

Meradwin:
You have proven yourself a worthy man,
and with such you shall have my hand.
If you are to be mine,
some events I must shine.
On my father and his cruelty.
My father beats me through and through,
claiming that "it is the last straw with you!"
To an Amnian merchant he wishes me bound,
but I can't say yes for love I have found.
My father is a man cruel as can be,
Hoarding town funds for his own spending spree.

Barnabas
If your father has committed such atrocity,
I will show him my own ferocity.
Oh my dear Meradwin,
with your hand all battles I shall win.
Even if my luck draws thin,
I will still have you my Meradwin.

They kiss and exit right stage holding hands

Remus is standing, flustered and angry as Kaern and Norn cower before him:

Remus:
BARNABAS DID WHAT!?

Norn:
Aye, he even had his hand around her butt!
To this information we simply relayed,
So please let us be payed.

Remus:
If what you say be not of imagination,
Then I have a few more jobs you can station

Kaern:
If such be true,
I would love to work for you!
Will there be more gold this time?

Remus:
So much it will make you chyme,
Whilst the poor watch you from grime.
If it is true Barnabas will seek my presence,
I will treat him to multiple pleasants.
You brothers shall hold the door,
Then we shall knock him to the floor!

Norn:
Why must we put him through such strife,
for I can kill him with a knife!

The three men hide, Meradwin enters from right stage and is struck down by Norn with knife, she lie fainted on the ground:

Norn:
By the gods! It is not that lad,
Oh gods this is surely bad!
This had most likely be the worst idea I have had!

Remus:
You ruthless brute full and full!
I shall destroy you like a bull!

Kaern:
You can destroy my brother,
for you have just enraged another!
As for you brother,
You shall receive a beating as if I were mother!

While the three men beat one another and wrestle, Barnabas enters and upon seeing Meradwin dead upon the floor he then looks up to see Kaern, Norn, and Remus fighting. In rage he joins the fight. Norn attempts to stab Remus but accidentally stabs is brother. Taking the opportunity Remus grabs the knife and stabs Norn. Barnabas charges to attack Remus and Remus also stabs him. Barnabas with his last strength gives a lethal chop at Remus with his axe:

Kaern:
I am stricken!
Ooh! I lament!

Norn:
Be quiet you pansy!
It was just a cut!
Urgh!

Remus:
Damns it!
It was all planned!
How could it be spoiled!?

Barnabas:
Oh my love how I will miss you!
Because your father is such a cruel chum,
I shall never feel your tender bum!

As the men all moan and cry, lamenting at their soon to be death, Meradwin awakes, she holds her wound. She looks at the men on their death bed, yelling the final words at each other:

Barnabas:
It was all you Remus! I lament!

Remus:
No it was you wretched Barnabas! I lament!

Kaern:
T'was the both of you! I lament!

Norn:
Oh dear god why don't I just die already!? I lament!

Norn, Kaern, Remus, Barnabas:
Lament! Lament! Lament!

Meridwen:
What disaster has occurred at my father's fault.
These wounds feel like they are burning with salt!
Norn, Kaern, Remus, and Barnabas,
All these men killed by my father's act.
Least with his death the hatred shall end,
and with that this town can mend.

She too dies, the five bodies litter the ground

EPILOGUE:

Chorus enters from left stage and crosses center

Chorus:
To this play
Its purpose to entertain,
To a Mayor
It's purpose to reign.

Though an estrange act of comedy,
It is poised with a mix of tragedy.
Our purpose to enlighten,
that of which is corrupted to lighten.

With life poised in bloody war,
May we gather again once more,
Fair and fine,
To share our wine.

To these five death shall unite,
Their death due to mayoral blight,
May you watch yourself each night,
And live long without plight.
