An Admonishment Against Mist Worship
Heresies and Lies
Penned by Watcher Leopold Handelsson

To begin to adress the topic of Mist Worship and the various cults associated with such practices, one must first realise what the Mists truly are.

The Mist's are nothing more than a tool, albeit a very powerful and deeply magical tool.  They both help and hinder, grant sight and restrict it and spout lies and truth almost equally.  Many consider this capricious nature to be the obscure whims and will of a sentient being that is the Mists, other consider it to be the fighting and contrasting wills of many spirits locked within those wispy clouds.

In truth it is neither of these things, it is a medium, a conduit for powers varied and diverse to speak to their followers and others who walk these foggy lands.  Whilst no one can say for sure who or what created this anomaly of nature, overtime it has come to serve the purpose of a mouthpiece.  Beings of both good and evil use it to convince or force others to do their bidding by showing them visions with this as their method.

The most important thing to remember however is that the Mist itself is -not- a God.  It does not deserve nor wish your worship, for in offering prayer and obeisance to the Mists you offer such to whichever being happens to be controlling it at that particular time.  To truly earn the favour of the Gods and remain steadfast to true belief one must maintain prayers to them specifically.  Should the Gods see fit at any point to use the Mists to speak to or challenge you then undertake this task with a will, but do not blindly follow what you feel is false.

An example of the follies of unquestioning belief in whatever prophecies and visions come from the Mists can be found in the Numinous Order of the Brethren Votarient.  These men, albeit often noble in their intent to battle the undead, have been twisted at mind and heart by the falsehoods fed to them by a darker power, using the mist as it's agent.  These falsehoods have led them from the path of worshipping the Triad, Ilmater, Tyr and Torm.  Now they follow fictious faces of these Gods, heresies which given time to fester may corrupt further individuals.

Furthermore, one must only listen briefly to the preachers of this Order to note a fervent belief in an apocalypse which shall be the doom of mankind.  This despair of certain doom is precisely what foes of the living desire, a faith in the hopelessness of the situation we find ourselves in.

Yet it is not only the Numinous Order which has become a victim of the treacherous ways of the Mists.  Many newly arrived folk from the mainland have been taken in by it's deceptions.  Mist Cults have appeared on Ymph from time to time, the Mist Witch Neerix Valashar is an example.  A magus of considerable power who called upon demons and other foul beasts in order to harass good people and sacrifice them to the hungry maw of the Mists.  Which being ordered such sacrifices is unknown, but their are enough of them out there to call on such.

So I shall take this last space to warn you once more, intrepid reader, against the dangers of prostrating yourself unwittingly before dark powers, shrouded by Mists of white.
