Random Song Giver in Wilds

I don't know that a lot of the songs would make sense for nature PCs to acquire from one of their own NPCs, frankly. Maddox's Ode to Sembian Rum, the Gnomish Party Tune that shoots up illusory fireworks, the song that's boosts engineering skills...a lot of these seem rather out of place to me in a savage setting. I actually feel the same way about some of the more "native" oriented songs being used by civilized bards, such as the Ymphian Jungle Hymn, which I don't use with Abigail since it's not a style of music she'd be performing.

I really don't think a focus on collecting all the songs does justice to a bard if you're trying to keep with a concept. It shouldn't be about having as many as you can, or about maximizing mechanical efficiency at every possible moment by having all the best songs. But that's just one player's opinion.

I agree with the above post, and it does bring up a point that I did not think about. Although I think it would make sense for a storyteller in the wilds, the selection of songs should also be theme appropriate. I also only use a select number of songs (3) because the rest just do not fit my character concept.

Obviously a bard would not use songs that were useless to him or against his concept. Unless a dm would want to remove songs that couldn't conceivably called nature oriented, I don't think there is much we can do. <.<

I first thought this suggestion was about adding a random encounter where you meet a Stargazer/Tribal/Traveling Minstrel willing to share their work.

Either way, I'd be for it!

A wilds storyteller indeed. It would provide the more natural songs like. A few examples:

Drum of the Hunt: Bonus AB, spot/listen/search, movement speed increase
Howl of the Pack (curse song): Does something similar to shadow mastiffs
Sleeping song of the lazy Bear (curse song): Makes foes fall asleep and slows them down.
Rythm of Growth: Your bard song summons a multitude of vines, the vines summoned scale with every 3 levels.

Some of the current songs can definately be given from this too.

I thought it would be fairly obvious which song should definately be readily available to nature pc's, hymn of the Ymphian Jungle anyone?  Plenty of city pc's use it and like a stargazer usign the firework song it doesn't make all that much sense.  Not everything should be balanced but tribes generally pass along songs throughout generations, I don't see what the negatives are here.

animal totem songs sounds like sick idea to me

tiger = bonus ab, dmg and spot?
frog = curse song that screeches annoying noises?

etc

Stargazer-only songs, each of a totem sounds awsome. Especially if you add a couple for the flayers.

While the idea of Stargazer only songs is utterly and resoundingly AMAZING-

It's off topic.
