Wilderness Survival and... Wilderness Survival

As it stands, Wilderness Survival is a pretty handy secondary skill on EFU. You can trade meat for supplies to a number of factions, or skins for a little bit of extra gold in Mistlocke. It adds a nice bit of immersion, I'm sure, if you actually want to play a hunter who makes money from hunting.

The skill doesn't do a whole lot as far as actually surviving in the wilds goes, however... meaning that clerics of nature deities, rogues with the scout archetype, sorcerers with the witch or shaman archetype, bandits etc.  - characters who no doubt spend a lot of time in the wilds - are still forced to trade for oil flasks now and again. And putting points into that skill for the sake of role-play doesn't accomplish much beyond helping you gather meat. Now while While I don't think Wilderness Survival should necessarily be equivalent to the resting bonuses that barbarians, druids, and rangers receive...

Would it be possible to give characters with Wilderness Survival a chance to gain a non-transferable oil flask at each server reset? Something they can use to rest in the wilds (semi-regularly) without having to hunt down oil flasks - which I'm sure can be challenge if you're exiled, an Old Port refugee, a lone necromancer, etc.

I do realize there are a few safe resting zones hidden about, but they are often nestled in dangerous places.

As far as EFUSS skills goes, this is already one of the most mechanically useful.  While I follow the logic of the suggestion,  I think any further buff to it would be over-powered.

Perhaps make a "Hunting" EFUSS skill that is used for skinning/butchering instead, with maybe a small bonus to Tracking.  Then make "Wilderness Survival" add a percentage chance to light a fire where you couldn't normally, and maybe a boost to recovered HP when resting by a fire.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

"Maybe there's just one revolution.  The good guys against the bad guys.  The question is, who are the good guys?"

Knight Of Pentacles

Its already useful.  I think other skills should have some uses even if they're just quest related.

The one and only time I got a DM roll for this skill was worth every other time I've invested in it. It's like Lore and Spellcraft in that it tells the DMs something about your PC. That's the real benefit. Everything else is secondary.

There are a few places in the wilds that sell oil, at least, this has always been true in the past. IN addition, there are many many many places on the server you can rest for free--all of them in the wilds.

Just... a thought.
