Volume 1

Jergal has existed for as long life has existed. He ruled over death and the fates of the living, in comparison, Myrkul, Cyric, and Kelemvor are recent, minor players in the grand scheme of destiny he has for so long wielded. The duties of death became to burdensome for the latices of fate and destiny, which he controls, and needs to be tended, as the fate of all life is to eventually perish, it is he who oversees this process conducts itself in orderly fashion.

The inextricable inevitability of death defines itself with the very definition of mortality- fated to die. All living things, that think, breath, and move, will eventually find itself at the end of their fate, at the door way of the Crystal Spiral where the Hand of Fate, Kelemvor, judges them on how they fulfilled their individual mandates and purpose in life. The faithful and true are rewarded, the faithless and those who sought to fight against the tide and path of destiny are punished for the chaos they have caused and are instilled within the wall of the faithless. Fate, nor destiny, cannot be denied.

Many gods offer the illusion of choice. Beshaba, Tymora, as well as other gods who ascribe themselves to chaos and probability, (Tempus, Garagos, etcetera) and offer the fallacy that effort, determination, and achievement allows one to vary from the road that is laid out before them. The reality is stark, and that these gods lie to their followers, the path they take was long ago predetermined.

The proof of this concept lies in the fact we will all die. It is an inevitable fact of mortality, the end of all of which we know and the moving on from this world and into the next. The material existence of the cosmos we reside in eventually fades as we leave the corporeal shell and take on the spiritual form. This is the hand of fate, the road of destiny, at work. The finality of our end allows us to accept the determinate state of existence. That our path is predetermined and what we believe to be choice is nonexistant, but actions long since decided by a grand architect.
