Potions of Concentration

These may exist somewhere and its just that i have not come across them...

If they don't I think their inclusion would be good.

Discipline Potions have been introduced to give a possible counter to Knockdown et. al. to PC's that would otherwise have little chance against such an attack.

In a similar vein, there is no potion/wand counter, that I am aware of to a Taunt attempt. Yet its effects can leave you hugely weakened, on a par with being knocked flat.

Mechanics wise Taunt is particularly powerful, given the aggressor gets to roll a D20 to add to their Taunt skill, as well as the defender being able to roll such to add to their Concentration skill.

So I think it could do with a counter.
  • Potions could last a short while and not be very common, (just like Discipline Potions). Perhaps +15 for 3 minutes
  • Potions need not give a huge boost to concentration but enough to give a PC with little skill a *chance* to not get -6AC that cannot be removed for a number of rounds.
This suggestion isn't designed to nerf Taunt, merely give a counter to it.

Unlike discipline, concentration is given to all classes but barbarians. If you didn't invest in it to counter taunt, it's your own fault truthfully!

A neat idea, but I wouldn't think it necessary.

Big Orc Man

It's a good idea in principle, but I'm not sure wizards really need more advantages over melee classes!

Even with a few points, it is rarely enough. I doubt a single Barbarian has been made without max'd Taunt.

With a 12 Concentration fighter my PC was still failing Taunt saves (if only 2-4AC) lots of times in various PVP and duels.

For a fighter or cleric 12 is pretty much max'ing it.

And for BOM's point... didn't mean mages i was thinking any class, its other melee people that are worse effected.

LOL, if you aren't equipping concentration loot or investing in Secondary Concentration, you got no room to complain.

Zilch. There is a TON of concentration loot out there.

Wrong. Rogue's as well as Barbarians do not get it.

Its a suggestion not a complaint. I have seen this effects lack of balance mainly as the attacker using Taunt. It essentially gave my PC a free -6AC against any NPC or PC.

There is also lots of Taunt loot. Generally in lighter forms (rings not helms).

So if, as suggested, you have to:
  • Max out a skill
  • Seek out loot to boost that skill above the max
  • Max out secondary Concentration
..and will still fail checks to PC's a number of levels lower, even having done the above....

It may seem that a counter, to this UNREMOVABLE and extremely powerful negative effect, may be in order.

The counter is called running away. <.<

TakenByVisions

Taunt them back. <_<

Jagged

It would be overpowered for reasons other than Taunt.
