I've hit the wall over the last couple of days, been at a loss for any sort of creative methods to carry out my goals in game and to come up with really interesting ways to get things done or create awesome - as a result I've not actually logged in at all!

What do other people do to get over that little slump which I'm sure everyone has come up against while playing?

I usually take a break, sometimes just a couple days, sometimes longer.  It's a good time to catch up on other things you've been meaning to do IRL.

xXCrystal_Rose

Write short novels or poetry. That's what I do at least when not occupied with work.

Random_White_Guy

Draft maddened schemes in your private DM only readable OOC journal or IC things in your IC journal tends to work for me.

Also take a break. Breaks are good for the soul.

Well, here are some thoughts.

I think typically it's better to get into the rhythm of your character and the server rather than try to come up with some kind of artificial "event" idea outside of game. Although these ideas can often be very good, they do tend to require a perfect storm of factors: a good idea, doing the IG leg work, scheduling it with a DM, scheduling it with other players involved, etc.

So for example, if nothing is coming to mind for a character goal to achieve, then focus on your character's personality and how the PC would react to other characters and the world around him. Log on and just think about what the character would do now. Look to see what other players/PCs are trying to accomplish, and see if you can figure out a way to get involved.

There's so much going on, there's so much content, so many areas to explore, so many different player efforts, so much secret hidden stuff to find - it's all out there, just see what's to be had and have fun with it with your own PC.

I find that actively played characters that get involved in the rhythm of the server often then blossom very nicely whereas sometimes very planned out concepts that don't actually do much IG are less successful.

you axed for it

Stay IG and react to other players.

Do absolutely nothing whatsoever.
