Suggestion up front: Change the dice roll syntax or duplicate it to add a function so any dice roll can be sent to a targetted person as a message only you and them see.

Reason/ing: Every once in a while someone asks me to roll a skill check, or sometimes I would like to ask a player if they would mind rolling one for me.

However, personally, I dislike seeing rolls myself. I find them mildly disruptive to immersion, much like //ooc type stuff floating around. The option to send it to one recipient will make things seem more roleplay-ish and less rollplay-ish for the audience.

The option to also send it, hidden, to yourself might also find some use for people who like to use this to decide how their character acts, something else I see from time to time and think is neat - but would be better "off site."

The only people who should tell you to do a roll check are the DMs, however you can do one to portray your PC in a certain way by your own choice.
It is not compulsary to do 'counter-checks' to see who wins, it is optional to both players. You probably already know this but you stated that PCs have told you to do it, when infact you don't have to.

I understand your point, and it makes sense, although this may take up a bit of precious time, and be rarely used by the playerbase in general.

Players are allowed to ask for rolls. They are also allowed not to comply. The precious time this would take up is all of five minutes.

By precious time, i ment the time it would take to implement that which he is asking for, to have a hidden dicerolls that can only be seen by a specific player. And as i said i think that would be rarely used, i did not mean requesting a roll, nor did i say that wasn't allowed, i said he has a choice to decline if he wishes.
I was simply saying what was said to me by a DM when i asked.

I should have made myself more clear.. 'clearly'.

Nah, they ask someone to do it, as like you said, players can't require it. However, if it makes sense, that's great and I don't mind at all. It's just an aknowledgement that character stats should reflect, you know, the character. :P

At the same time, the more hidden the mechanics aspect is, the more immersive I find things to be, so it's more for the observers than the roller and roll-ee. It makes the developments look more natural and spontaneous in my opinion.

Huh.

Additional/alternative suggestion:

Instead of a numerical roll result, it might look more pleasing if the announced result were in the form of a written result, like an emote. Like this, without the numbers in the emote being written out of course. They're written a bit vague after 0-9 since the dice roll provides a pretty good bit of random.

[0-9]    Willipher's bluff fails pathetically.
[10-14] Tardicus's willpower seems a bit weak.
[15-19] Gronk's persuade might be adequate.
[20-24] Mantor's willpower may be above average.
[24-29] Kaylen's strength could be more than the common man's.
[30-39] Rodgort's intimidate looks impressive by most standards.
[40-49] Numph's lore appears like something to tell tales about.
[50+]    Willipher's heal seems something rarely matched by mortals.

That's what I meant, too. It's a relatively simple change that will happen eventually, but in case I'm the one that ends up having to do it it may not happen for another three to four years.

Thats actually a really awsome idea, and as you said it would look alot more appropriate and could possibly influence if people chose to, the way their PCs react to it.

+1 from me.
