Whistle As You Work

Ok, so I was wandering near that absurd screaming woman in the ruins, and she gave me an idea.

*SCREEEEECH*

I have - and I am sure other people have - used the shrieking lady as a tattle-tale for people passing through that area of the ruins. It's a scream that echoes through the entire map. You -know- when someone's around. I am not sure if anyone has ever set up ambushes using this knowledge, but it'd sure be cool.

My idea is a little more simple than a magical screeching lady - give a whistle!

/c whistle

(*whistle sound*)  < ----  I know there's one of these in the module because I've heard it before.

This could have a lot of uses for us sneaky-minded folk, especially if it doesn't break stealth. Is is possible?

Most areas are too large for almost all player races to hear the sound of somebody whistling.

I have however seen instruments in efu:a that provide a similiar effect. They require a listen check for everybody in the area to hear though and it appears via yellow dialogue. It also provides a general direction of the sound on a good enough roll.

Basically, I just want to use it as a signal to co-ordinate stealthy ambushes, or something clever like that.

Think of it like Robin Hood sitting in a tree, above the evil Sheriff of Flotinglyfam and his Pig-Farming Orcish Shaman/druid/Rangers.  The piggies pass by, and he gives a whistle!

On down the road, the merry band knows that somebody's coming, without Robin having to sneak - at a walk - back through the clearing at relatively the same pace as the evil orcish war horde.  Bam boom bang, alarm sounded, we're done.

Alternatively this could be a bell - I've seen a bell item in-game, that makes a dinging sound when you ring it.  Maybe I should just get one of those?

Portal Rat

Maybe I'm remembering this from another server, but I thought there was a /c whistle already?

Garem

Love it.

This will definitely be a battlecry for one of my PCs at some point. The Whistlin' Dervish.

Wildlings

This would be a nice feature to have.  I can see the Nature Characters using this often.

Listen in Silence

Having played a bandit character, I can testify that this script would make it a whole lot less difficult to arrange a good ambush or gank. "At my signal."- yeah sure, when he needs to emote it that isn't very obvious.

SilentSouth

On another server i had played, sounds where automatic with what you typed within **, so for example if you typed *spits* *whistle* etc it would make those noises and there was also an option to turn it off, would be awsome if this could be implemented however i think it may be CEP.

Porkolt

I think it just depends on wether the whistle sound is actually available in the toolset.

If not, I still think it would be worthwhile to implement this with a surrogate sound effect, like how Balagarn's Iron Horn sounds more like a roaring farmer falling into a puddle than anything else. We can suspend disbelief.

TheKingByngAffair

Having played a Rogue on another server, I can attest that this is a good idea, though I have found one way to circumvent the problem in regard to coordinating ambushes if whistling or something else cannot be implemented and if tells/party chat are a faux pas. Namely, dropping a stone/item/whatever on the ground (via the NWN engine) makes that item visible to everyone, including other stealthed rogues and also the victim.

The victim may not know what it means to drop, say, a bottle of wine on the ground, but if "wine" is your signal to "go ahead and gank," then you and your friends have a "code" to attack.

Nuclear Catastrophe

There're "/e" commands ingame.  Like /e beg, /e wave, /e sit, /e fall etc.

Whistle might be among them.

Edit :  Found the master list, whistle isn't there, but there are a few interesting ones.

Sounds like we just became more animate people.
