Free action pvp tool - A permanent item in a players inventory that can toggle hostile as a free action on whoever is targeted. A lot of times in a surprise bit of PvP you end up with extra people hostile, whether through your own commands, theirs, or the simple need to not type in some lengthy Elf name, and this tool would be a quick fix to remove or add people to hostile.

- It's well understood that there are chat commands but they are difficult to use in the middle of battle.

- Timing can be crucial and I've seen some very experienced players get taken down as they fumble around trying to fix a hostile command.

DM tool for quick faction setting - Along the same lines as the first, I have witnessed this from both sides and it's very frustrating. A non-hostile NPC hitting someone receives free flanking on their target for example. NPCs are typically either hostile to everyone or no one, both being a problem. An extra utility on some DM wand to create temporary factions (or use current?), wand players or NPCs and set their hostility level to them would be pretty awesome.

How about player tools, instead of items? Free actions for doing OOC things rather than a full round action for doing an OOC thing would be better, in my opinion, with the option of using an item should you already have too many player tools.

Setting people to hostile using the player list is pretty easy, and certainly a free action.

You can store the hostile command as a quickslot on your bar. It will greatly decrease the time it takes to hostile someone. Myself I always quickslot Hostile Area and Unhostile All, generally underneath the CTRL quickslots.

We have our own ways for setting factions. Sometimes, some NPCs will be hostile to some players and not others due to players attacking these NPCs (with given permission). This is to prevent NPCs from going on a rampage attacking everything and everyone (even PC allies), just to deal with a few players causing trouble. I have yet to find a way to make NPCs hostile to some players and not others without the players having done a hostile action.

Using quickbar :

setcommand label using the radial menu, label it "Hostile" and then command "/c hostile all.

voilá

also, use "/c setally (name of ally)"  when they're near you and they won't be included in the hostile command.

Clicking someone off hostile on your side still leaves you hostile on their side.

Yeah, neither of these fix the problem I'm talking about. Not everyone is an ally, nor do we always want everyone or the area set to hostile. For example, I was recently attacked in the ruins and my "allies" (who may not be tomorrow and due to the command's range limitation it's not used so loosely) were forced to hostile all to react in any normal amount of time, thus making me hostile to them and giving them AOO's on me. The only current method to stop this is to try and type out the unhostile command and get their name in there properly while trying to pvp. A simple toggle tool would fix this.

That's the whole point of the second suggestion. I've seen it done elsewhere and think it would be a nice touch for when NPCs are fighting on the side of certain PCs but not others and could be switched around properly during a short pause.
