Short, temporal invencibility at login.

It often happens that you crash in the middle of a fight, and inmedietly want to log back, because of cource it makes no sence your charater disapears just like that. Usually it's "Safe" to log on, because you're dumb if you log back in in a fight you were being overwhelmed, you were near death and you crashed, but sometimes the game really wants to mess with you. For example: a battle that apparently was won, yet you crashed and now log back, but it happened the NPCs rolled 20s 5 times in a row and killed half your party, so you're dead as soon as you log back on. Or what just happened to me: i log off as my wizard in a very dagenrous situation (more like crashed, obiously) but since i was invisible, i said "meh, i'll be fine". I log back in and a stupid larva swarm runs to me provoking an AoO, making me go visible and have 7 broodkeepers and 3 flayers over me. Naturally i died.

This situations could be avoided with a small period of invincibility on log in, perhaps 3 rounds or so of being completly invulnerable: that way you can drink a potion of invisibility quickly and get back to your mates and be like "Let's just said i ran off with you guys" (Because really, crashes in thsi situations aren't fair) or if it's really hopeless log off for good and not die horribly to lag, a faulty PC, or a cat messing with the cables behind your computer.

Your best bet if you're worried is to log on an alt or retired PC and PM someone in the party if you suspect there may have been a TPK or retreat while you were crashed.

Just take the Beat down.  It's only Xp after all.  Just hope someone is around to save your junk for you.  If not, you get the honor of rolling up a new PC.

When this happens I'll usually log on a different character and PM someone in the party to make sure I don't log in to death before I finish loading.

My tip is to always keep invisibility potions on your primary hotbar, on a F# that is the same across all characters, just for emergencies, such as logging in and being surrounded by orcs. Also, always keep one potion of invis for emergency use (such as logging in and being surrounded by orcs), and preferably also a potion of retreat (cheap, common drops, lots of gear has multiple charges or even use/day), and just chug them and run to wherever your group is to rejoin the fight.

If you crash in the middle of a close fight, though, you're probably dead anyway, as you tend to just stand there for about 20 seconds, hopefully fighting or safely invisible with allies seeing to it that you don't die a painful death.
