Change the Combust Immunity Cloak

I'd just like to point out that a 5/- cloak with nothing else on it was given as DM loot for fighting a dragon, it's not going to start appearing willy nilly.

Although I for one like the idea of the combust immunity cloak, I don't know how common it is. A useful counter to a single spell, leaving you otherwise cloakless.

Strange since there are common drop amulets with 5/- and I believe even some with 15/- to certain elements. There is a helmet on a low level quest with 5/- electrical as well. I'm sure many more things too that I don't recall.

While the spell immunity might be a little much for common loot it's hardly game breaking. I've seen very few player wizards use combust  and even fewer people wearing this cloak outside of on the quests that spam the spell. Maybe some of the NPC mages could use a few new spells and this cloak can go away at the same time. HEH

A bump on this for the reason that I've seen numerous PCs wearing this thing recently. It's not exactly uncommon and there's no good reason *not* to wear it unless you're a stealther or a mage with a +spellslot cape. It's also dyeable, so you can  conceal the fact you're wearing it should you wish to bluff. I've been on enough or certain quests with people wearing this thing to see that it completely takes the piss out of quests where a significant threat is caster mobs with Combust/mobs with onhit combust.

I suggest maybe some different restrictions or drawbacks, to make it either dangerous against someone prepared to counter it (Perhaps electric vulnerability, as there are single-target electric spells) or re-worked to make it a way for low HP classes to counter Combust, as they run the biggest risk of a oneshot kill.

For example, like for the Slippery Burglar's Ring, which is only useable if you have no levels in a full BAB class. Restrict it to those classes which don't have good HP or decent HP and insulation spells.:

QuoteDevilskin Cape

Only usable by:
Bard
Sorcerer
Wizard
Rogue

//OOC: Do not use if you have levels in any classes but the ones above.

Rogues kinda don't need help against comburst IMO.

Ranek

Bah, it's just a cloak...

Drakill Tannan

Say that to the fire based sorcerer that focuses on empowered comburst.

Kobold Evokers,
Orc Savage Prophets,
Elite Gnoll Shamans,
Goblin Pyromancers,
Burning Dead Arrows,
PC-usable Onhit Combust Rounds.
Combust devices.

There's a lot of combust out there, because as I've pointed out It's the only useful L2 spell for Blowing Shit Up and one of the very few spells for blowing things up with precision. When I managed to get hold of one of these I passed it to a faction member with a tell saying "Hey want to just abuse the hell out of this against Savage Prophets until the DMs notice? :P"

The thing about this cloak is it's great because it has no penalties and it's even got Combust charges on it and a small Hide bonus. If the Immunity was on something sub-optimal like a distinctive (maybe perma flame effect) Dagger, set of Banded Mail, no skill bonus studded leathers, or a 0 AC smallshield, it'd be balanced as you give up being able to use good equipment in exchange for a sweet immunity (See Mind of the Ooze).

Even the best capes give only +1 Deflection AC (easy to get off hats or rings), a couple more Hide or a save. Immunity to a good spell AND class-unrestricted charges of that spell is pretty sick.

@Bloodgod: If there was an item that automatically disarmed bastard swords, would you be saying the same? I mean. there are plenty more weapons.

@SFP: Ahmed had a 5/- DR (Fire) item. It was quest endloot.

Which explains perfectly the phrase "I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire." Luckily this cloak avoids that issue.
