A story of much time wasted >_>

Bitter EVE vet here, that story is almost entirely fabricated, and it got me to start playing back in the day. Some of the details of the story are patently untrue to anyone with a knowledge of game mechanics but the jist is possible in EVE. Reading about someone getting excited over scamming 500m ISK is quaint because these days it doesn't grab your attention unless it's in the hundreds of billions, which incidentally happened little over a week ago when Goonfleet's CEO flamed out and took some 300b ISK from his alliance on his way out. It's debatable whether this was a scam or someone who got fed up and decided to fuck goons. There was also Eve Intergalactic Bank (EIB) back in summer 2006, a renowned "bank" that would take people's money, claim to invest it into side-projects, and offered an interest rate. Once the most visible and most trusted financial institution in EVE, this was revealed beyond a doubt to be a pyramid scheme when after weeks of pressure from people accusing him of running a pyramid scheme, and a subsequent run on the bank, the owner of EIB posted a bizarre video of himself gloating about taking the money. Now EIB was some good drama. If you have patience for walls of text and I guess you do if you read the Nightfreeze story, here's a fuller account of the EIB scam, from the point of view of another scammer.

you play EFU

Kotenku

The only thing about EVE that seems entertaining, to me, are the stories that come out of it.

I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did.

Equinox

I enjoyed that story actually. pretty well written, fictional or not.

Relinquish

Can not read with constant flickering of shitty background from website argh.

@Dagam - Story was written around the time frame when EVE first started, explaining the excitement over such little money nowadays and the change in several game mechanics.

@Kotenku - Truth!

Dagam

At no point did EVE allow ECM rays draining a ship of energy, a ship exploding destroying the pod, or being podded by concord. I forget what else but suffice it to say there were inconsistencies. Also the names were all made up.

UnholyWon

A nice piece of fiction that was entertaining.

ScottyB

Ahh, fuck it. Sterndawg is Currin Trading.

Semli
