reinstalling my NwN game

I'm sure most of you don't need to know this (or already do) but I figured I'd post it for shits and giggles anyway...

While trying to reinstall my NwN game I ran into a slight issue and found out the hard way about the Critical Rebuild patch that needs to be added before ANY other patches, updates or overrides. Once you have that, then you add the 1.69 patch. Last but not least, (after you've done those two steps), when you load the game click on the "UPDATE" tab on the opening game screen for the automatic updates. I pretty much found out that if you do these steps out of order things will not work properly.

Then (if you like) you can add the EFU:A downloads...

Once you have those steps done then you can add (if you like) all the cool overrides.

I've never needed to patch after using the latest critical rebuild.

The EFU:A downloads are not "needed" either, although they make some nice features available.

But yes, when reinstalling you will need to use the critical rebuild, because there will be a huge step from the latest disks to patch 1.69.

I was under the impression that if you didn't have the EFU:A downloads things like domains, spells and PrC's wouldn't work correctly.

Yes, well there are special domains, feats and prc files. Those naturally require some of the downloads, but they are not necessary for nwn to work nor efu to work in general.

None of our overrides are compulsory; you can still use the default NWN domains, spells, and PrCs, but in order to access the custom domains, the re-enabled spells, and... I don't know what PrC mods are working, but I think CrazyNut fixed my mistakes... then that depends on our downloads.

I recently had to reinstall NWN, and I have no intention of adding any overrides at all. I'm able to play just fine, albeit without some of the server's frills.

Yep.

And that only because the critical rebuild is pretty much required for most people to patch to 1.69. In fact, you may as well consider the critical rebuild the proper 'patch'

You only need to download and install the patch from the EFU:A site if you really plan on playing a cleric of diety that supports one of the domains given in the patch.
