Heraldric/Artistic Challenge

Hi,

As you know, I'm in Afghanistan, supporting "OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM", ooh, wow!

Anyway, my overall unit has been designated Task Force: Dark Knights... and we have a gay banner with a 'Dark Knight' with a pennant on his lance that says 'From Darkness to Light'.

Whatever :)

But at the lower level, we have decided to go with Task Force: Longbow.

My commander wants us to come up with a logo/banner that's more compelling than simply a longbow on a white field.

So, if anyone is interested, I'm looking for submissions for such a thing.  Within the dimensions of a standard sheet of paper, landscape, give me something that is worthy of military heraldry and overall awesomeness.

Things to consider:

We are a Military Intelligence unit.  The unit this particular designation goes for is the Headquarters portion of the unit.  This means that besides actual intel guys, my unit also has the admin guys who make sure we get paid, supplied, trained, etc.

Some standard MI heraldry symbols:

Lightning Bolt - Signals driven intelligence (ie bad guys talk on stuff, we intercept it, translate, and act)
Rose - Secret nature of MI
Dagger or Sword - Military Nature
Globe - Global nature of the mission.
Key - Unlocking secrets/locking away secrets
Sphinx - duh

Submissions will all be... er... submitted to my commander and the winner will be proudly diplayed as our official heraldric symbol.  No guarantees anyone will win.  (or even play my silly game!)

longbow missile (yeah, I know it looks like a phallic symbol) being fired from a longbow and being that the US army loves banners... Also have the MI emblem in the center of the bottom banner...

This was a 2 minute pen sketch, I can do better (a real drawing) if you like the concept.
 
Instead of MI on the bottom banner you could put your unit number on the left side and MOS (95B20 etc) on the right or something.

The missile wasn't well received as we have very little to do with missiles, though it was acknowledged that if we did, it would have been perfect.

The current design on the table is a bow pointing up with three arrows nocked.  Simple... wish I had something clever.

Anyone know latin for

"Giving you the shaft"

Or

"For when only three feet of wood will do"

?

Heh! I bet you have many hawk missles deffending your jump TOC right now ;) But I get it.

"Calamum damus tibi" is my tentative translation for "giving you the shaft" -- the direct translation is "we give the shaft to you" or "we are giving the shaft to you".

"Cum tres pes ligni modo est satis" is my even rougher translation for "For when only three feet of wood will do" -- the direct translation is "When three feet of wood only is sufficient".
