It /might/ be possible, if there is a Ki Critical for trident?( or whatever the WM level 5 ffeat is) I dont know/care really if trident can be taken as a Weapon of choice for a WM, but if it can, this is possible.

Quote from: Egon the Monkey;98522-Fix would be to slap 1d8 Massive Crits on most Tridents.

Quote from: Xorisai;98591Like Egon said, you could just add 1d8 Massive crits to all tridents and at least make it more or less mechanically the same as a spear.

If you wanted to fix it, couldn't you just do this, Snoteye?
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

still wouldn't be a x3 multiplier since spec, str or other bonuses wouldn't get multiplied.

The Beggar

Bastard swords suck because they are over used one handed weapons used by power gamers, as do dwarven war axes.  Great axes and two handed swords suck too because they are the over used two handed weapons used by power builds since the game began.

Damage is king for most people, which is why the above weapons are used by the high strength half orc and wood elf builds we see every day, as well as a lot of other characters. Mechanically they are better, and better means more XP, gold, loot and survivability.

The DMs have always made up the difference for those good character who choose to pick another sort of weapon to employ, or RP their character in some manner to give a deficit that needs to be overcome (mechanical). A certain obese watchman who had a club and only wore watch armor was one notable example, and had a wealth of potions to compensate.

Tridents suck more than spears mechanically. Get over it. Everyone knows they suck, same reason power builds don't use spears. Or any of the other above mentioned weapons people are extolling the virtues of. The weapons don't need the change, our attitude about winning does.

Snoteye

For those suggesting otherwise, no, this is impossible. And by impossible, I mean possible through one of two very ugly work-arounds I quite simply won't see implemented.

PanamaLane

Go with the weapon your gut tells you to. Then RP like mad to get a sweet custom weapon out of it. Fixed!

Cruzel

Threadomancy ftw :D

I was messing around with my stuff, and found this is actually possible, and I don't really consider it ugly, tbh.  in the baseitems.2da you can easily change the threat range and/or the critical modifier. afaik the change only needs to be serverside, too!  It won't show up when you examine the item, but i am pretty sure it shows in the character sheet.

Snoteye

Anything 2da is ugly by virtue of being 2da. If another DM asks me to implement it if you're right I'll grudgingly oblige, but I'm not doing it otherwise.

Cruzel

Well, I know it works, and its painfully easy, because I was messing around to see how/if the engine could handle a two handed weapon in each hand (animation wise) I set a halberd to be able to be held in each hand, then I saw the line for crit modifier. I set it to x10, which worked IG as I was critting for 200+.  The 10x didn't show up, but when I set it lower and tweaked the actual damage dice, I am pretty sure they showed up normally as 2d10 and x4.

Incidentally ; Halberds look pretty damn cool being swung in each hand.

Oskar Maxon

You mean to say they can actually be used one in each hand?

Yes, there is no doubt the average +1 dmg on hit you get if you use a bastard sword instead of a longsword largely compensates the fact you have to spend a feat to use them. Totally powergaming indeed!

There is no doubt either that using two handed weapons is powergaming as well. Of course that means you can't use a shield, and thus get at least -2 to AC, but I guess it doesn't matter.

Shit, according to Beggar, I'm a powergamer. I guess I will leave the server right now.

Every two handed weapon can be held in one hand, without exception. (afaik!)

It is a simple matter of changing your baseitems.2da  (Making them one handed makes them real one handed weapons, IE; No 1.5x str bonus for wielding them, even if you only hold one after the change)

You can change (almost) everything about a weapon (very) easily. Attack range, Animation %, damage dice,  crit range, crit modifier, etc.

Edit; Before you go and fuck with your 2das, any change you make won't work on a server that doesn't have matching info in the .2das.  That is so say, ify ou set a whip to do 5d3000 damage with a crit range of 10 and a 200x multiplier, it will still do 1d2 damage with a normal crit range and a x2 multiplier, unlesss the server you are playing on has a 2da setting to match yours

I really think it's fine to have sub-optimal weapons. Nobody forces you to use them; you can use whatever you like or fits your character. If your character happens to favor a sub-optimal one, so be it! The difference isn't that bad, really.

I mean, if you really take this idea to the extreme, shouldn't all weapons do the exact same damage so it's fair and balanced? All 2-handed weapons now do 1d10, all 1-handed medium ones 1d6, and all light ones 1d4, and they all have a x2 19-20 modifier. But where'd be the fun in that?

It's a bit like the classes. They're really fairly balanced, but of course there'll always be one that's just plain better than others mechanically; and Rangers will always be terrible, but so what? (Please nobody say "Rangers aren't that bad", I know they aren't.)

Oskar Maxon

Rangers aren't that bad.
