'lo...

I was thinking that considering all the jewelry, gems, and various non-magical "valuable" relics that we find... it might be a good idea to set up a Jeweler. In D&D, such items and fineries were meant to add some "variety" to the loot found, beside "gold and magical items". Currently, such items of worth are sold for 12 gold normally.

The Jeweler would generally create various jewelry from different metals and gems, and would further conscript (or have one in-house) enchanters to empower some of The Jeweler's creations magically for sale (thus he would sell an assortment of magical amulets, rings, and possibly other jewelry with magic stored within), or he might conscript enchanters for special orders (Usually from patricians, nobles, or certain wealthy persons)

A few things can come from this mechanically, in no particular order...

 - First off, we'd have another nice little merchant selling magical and non-magical baubles to purchase.

 - Second off, he could have another quest attached to him, related either to the theft of one of his prized creations

 - Third, it would give a better place to sell all those non-magical fineries that we come across, giving them more value, which leads into...

 - Fourth, the most interesting to me... with the upcoming renovations to the "Banner/Favor" system, this could be another area for Banners to seek favor, similar to the skinner. The more a banner sells gems, necklaces, rings, and other fineries to this Jeweler, the more favor that banner recieves, and potentially more favor from the "Patricans" and other high society sorts as a faction.

 - Fifth, with the concentration of wealth at this one merchant, it would make it an excellent source of plot for thieving and protecting properly... Not to mention the DM quests that could happen for an enchanter needing a special reagent for enchanting some sort of jewelry, or contracting of expeditions to seek out certain wondrous jewelry that is known to be sold at this shop.

Eh, what do ya think? :P

Naturally, this would require a decent bit of building and scripting, so it should be given a tenative place on the priority list for development... but I'd like to at least get this idea onto that list.

The shop with enchanted jewelry should only be available to patricians, I think; if anyone picks up this suggestions.

I like this, lots of potential in one little shop.  :)

Signet rings as PC faction loot too IMO. Uniforms aren't feasible unless you're playing a mage guild or monk order as custom armor's so damn expensive, but rings you could cheaply add the Banner name and a small social bonus to would be cool tokens. For example, three different types

QuoteDeath's Head Signet  Ring
+1 Intimidate

QuoteGaudy Gem Signet Ring
+1 Bluff

QuoteFiligree Signet Ring
+1 Persuade

In fact it could work like the Spellguard Registered Caster Badges with their item power that names it for the targeted PC. They'd come named as "Blank Signet Ring". Price them at 100 Gold each (low cost like guildhouse keys as every member would be want one)
