I have thought of this for some time... could Paladins be able to shift the alignment of a PC from NE-NT-NG or such with a just IG reason and it needs the approval of the player, it would encure a 500 exp penatly from NE-NT and a 250 exp penatly from NT-NG, this could be used as the Paladins helping the Pc along the path of redemption, but could clerics also be given this according to their diety, so only a few dietys will get it? Please thoughts? Also note this could add some seriously kick ass Rp to playing a paladin and make them more than what they are now? Arent they the Chosen of the Chosen?

I say no. It's been said many times, one good does not erase a lifetime of evil.

You cannot turn your alignment up and around within short time, nor with one action. Evil is quite easy to achieve, but from evil to good is long, hard way. Hell, pretty much no one gets there, but it's how it is, and should be. If you earn it, then you've really earned it.

Well I would agree with not being short term to be honest I didnt mean it to be short term.

I think it is far more interesting to truly earn your alignment the hard way.

I mean there are so many gray areas, and it is much more interesting to see a paladin try to explain why a evil person is with them, or talking to them etc.

I'm sure a dm would grant it if justified.

Plus the 500 exp penalty depends. Sure that's high up if you are high up, but if you start and your level 3, it dosn't take that long to get 500 exp in my experience. Though I only know the lower levels.

DMs can and do change people's alignments according to their actions. A DM will certainly notice if a Paladin is helping someone with redemption and will be better judges of what they do compared to how much their alignment begins to shift.

Additionally, because what I previously stated, this wouldn't add anything to a Paladin's repetoire that they do not already possess. Go forth with your Paladin and teach people as you always could.

Redemption  should be difficult to achieve neither should good deeds achieve good points at all. Doing good for public image and not because its a good deed is not a good act.

Pretty much what BoomDaddyBP said.

We can't notice everything that goes on though, so if a paladin is in fact leading someone successfully on the path of redemption make sure to let us know so we can give the appropriate shift/XP.

For once thomas is right.

Indeed, the means are already in your hands. But to give that much control to every tom dick and harry that rolls up a paladin does not interest me.
