If you drop something when in a shifted form, your carried weight lowers significantly more than the weight of said object. Picking up the dropped item again will add its weight to the new total rather than the original total. In essence, this means that I will be heavily encumbered when I shift into a rat, say, but if I drop an item and then pick it up I will not be encumbered. It seems that this has something to do with equipped armor, weaponry, etc., remaining in the initial encumbrance value, but not in the readjusted value (as the equipped items morph into the new form). Is this a bug or just the engine's awkward way of dealing with one's shifted inventory?

When you change your inventory in any way, by either picking up or dropping something, it resets to the proper weight. What that means is that items on your character no longer count towards your weight, because (for example) you're a rat. Your inventory resets when you do that exploding green shifty thing, however, so you may need to drop the item again.

The real bug is that it does not automatically adjust your weight. Personally I think that dropping and picking up an item to set it to the proper weight is a good fix, but I ain't no DM and I don't know no policy on dat.

It's like when your armor goes [Poof.] and you turn into a rat. It doesn't count towards your total weight/encumberance.
