Possible Error in Wolf Defense Quest

At the quest's end yesterday, I swear the giver said he would pay 40 GP per saved cow, yet his payout worked out to 30 per cow.  Am I just smoking crack and/or suffering from lack of sleep?  (we saved three cattle).
