PvP training

This idea might be cool, but it might totally suck.  You be the judge.

Most DMs like watching PvP.  It's one of the most enjoyable parts of being a DM - I know this because I've heard them say it.

Some people are really good at it.  They have played and PvP'ed many, many times and have learned by trial and error.  On the other hand, I suck.  When RP leads me to a PvP situation, I OOCly know that I have a whipping coming because I know I'm not very good - but it is part of the game and I try not to be a big wuss about it.

If the PvP results in a permadeath, this then leaves players who aren't very good at PvP with an unsatisfied feeling because they haven't accomplished what they wanted to to do with their character yet.  Most good PvPers usually do a splendid job of being classy, trying not to pick on low levels, and giving your character a way to survive the confrontation.  That's not the problem.

The easy solution is me and similar players to embrace PvP and do it more often.  Initiate it.  Practice makes perfect.  But it will take a heckuva long time, and you will lose a lot of characters this way.  I'm really not interested in creating unique and interesting characters and pouring weeks of my time into developing them only to get them perma'ed to improve my PvP skills.

THE BIG SUGGESTION:

When DMs get the time, maybe they could possess an NPC or bring on a PC and help the player work on their PvP abilities.  Maybe even spawn a bunch of the usual potions and let both characters use them, then take them back to keep things fair.  Kick the PCs butt over and over, perhaps with a helpful hint/tip via private Tell once in a while too.

I've had several people give me mechanics advice and I really appreciate it, because frankly I need it.  Most of the time I can handle the challenges on a quest, but going heads-up is a certain ass-whomping for me unless the player sucks as bad as I do.  Being a victim over and over really isn't fun in my experiences.

If the DMs are just too busy for this kind of thing, then maybe some of you players who are good at PvP could "train" with other players.  DMs could give rewards to these "instructors" and at the least refurbish the drain on potions and what have you.  The upshot of that is that the server as a whole will improve and make conflict more epic awesome instead of epic fail.

There are probably quite a few players like me who really enjoy being a part of plots, participate in convuluted RP, and ultimately know that if they get into PvP that they are going to get stomped.  So they avoid it.

As a decent/good RPer and a rotten PvPer, I for one would really enjoy and appreciate this type of feature to somehow be introduced by the DMs and skilled PvPers.

I do understand your idea behind this suggestion. Homever, I with all good meaning have to say that I don't see it to have place in a roleplaying server.

In short, best ways to learn pvp are by trial and error, also by doing a little bit of searching and studying as most of those who can pvp have.

Pvp servers are also a good way. some arena servers are easy to jump in to test your builds, test buff and gear and fighting against others. This you can then apply in efu.

That would be my suggestion. I can even give you the name of a very good and fair server for it, although the mechanics can differ from EfU, also the rules. But it can give you some notions.

Or if you want to do it here. Have duells with your allies where you are allowed to use potions.

Letsplayforfun

This post is friendly to people like me who suck at pvp, but i don't think it should happen on this server. cf. what VBL wrote.

I'm a sucky pvp player, but i practive with alts. Getting to lvl5 is easy and quick, and that's a standard lvl to pvp. It can get you the basics of most pvp situations: duels, muggings, group pvp.

Sparring misses the adrenaline rush that is part of pvp, imo. Making the right choices under stress is part of pvp winning.

I would -love- this.  But when we 'kick someone's butt,' even when just subduing, we're barraged with tells and forum PMs about why we've been unfair to his or her PC and then they go off to brood and spread lies in their private channels about how we used an army of DM spawned NPCs to humiliate their own PC in an unfair duel.  If we could somehow get past that, I'd love randomly stirring up fights without permanent consequences.

Please Do this!!! And just ban the whiners!!!!.  I love PVP, but am absolutely awful at it. Just looks like a drinking contest to me, and I am sure I am missing a ton of mad skills involved in winning. Trial and error is usually the end of most of my characters.

Fliggin McButton

I agree with DBR, PvP brings an adrenaline rush that is difficult to achieve in ANY video game, and I personally love it.

Bring the pain, whiners... well, dont do it again for them.

The idea of bar fights and the like even would be brillient, just for a bit of an RP laugh and some fun PvP. Personaly I'm a rather bad PvPer and would love to break up some bar fights in a proper riot gear, beating on people style mannor. Bring it on!

Get in there Peacekeeper! :)

I like this idea, simply because the only thing I know about engines and mechanics is how to take the engine out of my old chevy truck and rebuild it.  And, at my age, by the time I tried enough trial and error, I will be to old to see my monitor.

I was going to make a reply about Kheldians, but then I remembered those are Peacebringers. :(
