Cillian Darcy, devout servant of the Lady in Waiting

I came to v5 with a desire for a handful of different concepts, but the one I eventually settled on was to be as loud as I could be in Peerage Ward -- which, despite the slow start at the beginning, absolutely looked like the place to be. So I rolled up a paladin with the intention of making a strong effort to push the ideals of righteousness and virtue through knightly chivalry. The goal was to always be doing something proactive, whether that meant fighting against some injustice, righting some wrong, or putting others on a path of goodness -- and to never, ever back down, even if it meant suiciding. My biggest fear was being boring and reactionary with the lawful good alignment and just coasting along for somebody else's story.

I am overall pretty proud of how things turned out. Playing a paladin was equal parts stressful and rewarding, but hopefully some of you enjoyed what Cillian brought to the server as much as I enjoyed playing him.

Here are some screenshots.

Even at the start of his career, Cillian was a passionate proponent for House Sunpurse despite some of its obvious... "shortcomings." In his pursuit of a place as a retainer of the house, Cillian assailed bandits and attempted to right wrongs, but always called for mercy. He thought the best of the Reeve and what Sunpurse meant -- "a shining beacon of virtue rising above the houses of Peerage Ward," but that optimism or naivette would not last for long.

Cafrasil was a leal companion and a good friend in the first couple of weeks, but before Cafrasil's death, there were some frays in their friendship. Also, Cillian had a massive crush on Ser Nicholas Velstra after his first encounter with the man and it never really went away.

There's surely nothing wrong with zapping dudes with negative energy, right?

Despite sometimes being a struggle, religious roleplay is always incredibly fun for me. Cillian swearing an oath to the Lady in Waiting radically changed the course of his character. Upon her shrine, he vowed to do better by Peerage Ward and see it ascend to what it was originally meant to be. Or should have been. From her blessings, conflict brewed -- and so did cooperation, as Cillian found converts to her faith in his efforts to see the "ancient saint" deified. A lot of conflict was had between Cillian and some of his fellow retainers. Some of their souls were judged by the Lady in Waiting. Others, like Leofwyn, Cillian sought to make better men.

And yet, in these tumultuous moments of faith, Cillian found steadfast friends.

The realities surrounding the House he served eventually came to the fore, and they were amplified by the growing conflict between Cillian and Leofwyn. Despite Cillian's best efforts to create a sense of brotherhood between him and Leofwyn -- to foster his sense of honor and integrity while tempering some of his more brash tendencies -- he was consistently rebuffed, even after trying to bear some of the burdens of the old Sunpurse manor curse. A plot to have Cillian framed for murder, the exposure of said plot by his allies, the 'murder' of one of his companions, his eventual dessertion of Sunpurse... It was all phenomenal.

Dueling Leofwyn on the bridge and everything leading up to it was some of the best EFU I've ever experienced. Logging on at the eleventh hour to storm from Ticker Square to the Peerage Ward bridge to confront Leofwyn in one final battle in front of all the Ward was everything I ever wanted to see in a paladin PC -- it was like something out of a story, and the whole situation was absolutely electrifying. Hats off to Leofwyn's player for the stellar opportunity. EFU is best with a nemesis, and Leofwyn was a great one.

From here, Cillian took ownership of the old Sunpurse manor in the Ponds despite repeated efforts of multiple houses, organizations, and guilds to bring him into their -- and in spite of the fact that most of his allies had joined House Nephezar.

He still sought to serve House Sunpurse through the cleansing of its curse and the rescue of House Sunpurse, but there was conflict in his heart; an uncertainty of purpose. A loneliness. And the shadows of the Sunpurse manor house preyed upon this.

Witnessing the first and only law of Peerage Ward...

Negotiating with wildlings who were eager to have someone bear the burdens of the manor.

Seeing Cafrasil's ward flourish warmed Cillian's heart, but Eryeth's duties and Cillian's convictions caused a rift between them.

Cillian frequently had interesting conversations with great PCs.

Thanks to everyone that made Cillian's story interesting. You know who you are.
... and kudos to everyone that entertained my Austen obsession by calling him Mister Darcy.

I love cats

Cillian was awesome. I loved being captured by him on "Big FOOKING BILL" as well as our rivalry on Erilliam and Cillian.

Ironside

Cillian was one of the best paladins I've seen in years.

Cat

Cillian by far helped shape what Nailah is right now, and without the time together I think she would be much different than she is. I will miss running around with you, and our chats. Thank you for all the good rp,.

Quarterdragon

Cillian was really cool.  I wish I had more chances to interact.

Cillian took upon the hardest thing EVER to do. And that was to be a Paladin in the Peerage Ward. In my book he was always a Pally-win instead of a plain old Paladin. Loved him from the first minute we got to bump into each other and Jandar may not have agreed with everything he did, but he did respect it. You were the Best the Ward could have made and the Best of the Rings. I hope we see more -actual- heroes like Cillian again soon.

RPG

Didn't get to interact with him much but it was really cool following his story from afar.

I've got his fight with Leofwin on video I'll upload it here when I get home. Epic stuff.
That's my purse! I don't know you!

Empress of Neon

From what few interactions I had with him? A+ paladin.

Will never forget the epic bridge duel he had with Leo. A milestone in server history, far as I'm concerned :)

Emerald, Ruby and Steel

Can't believe I missed that bridge duel!

... And also just about everything else Cillian ever did!

I've had to content myself to hear about Cillian from afar -- which is also something that made the Peerage a better place RP-wise, incidentally.

BUT, we did get to have one longer interaction. And that was both excellent and meaningful.

Well done!

wundyboy

he was a cool PC and this is one of the better obits I've seen in a while. nice job friendo

TwoOClock

Spectacular.

Cillian was one of the first character Sylyn interacted with, and he was initially a bit of a blushing, wide-eyed idealist. Fast forward near the very end, to a mighty and somber knight who stood as the last bastion against madness.

Unfortunately I only saw the very beginning and the very end, but even brief interactions with Cillian left a pretty deep impact. He was an amazing paladin, the kind that can pull someone from a path that slopes down into the darkness with a SINGLE interaction.

Bravo!

Hound

Liked this PC a lot. Enjoyed the rivalry with Cross.
