Planar Binding

Just a stray thought of mine which should be ignored if it is even mildly difficult to implement...

The Planar Binding spells, Lesser and normal, are at EfU power levels probably some of the toughest summoning spells players will get to use. There is just one little problem I see with them. Good players get Celestials, Evil players get Infernals, but neutral players get Slaadi. I thought it was a little weird for a lawful neutral character to summon a Slaad; could it be changed so if an LN caster uses the spell, he gets a Modron instead? You could use some sort of golem or construct figure and call it an appropriate Modron name, or something else from Mechanus.

Howland stated somewhere they actually just summon the Level Three summon from whatever the theme is, but for 24 hours. You can quite simply get the Planar theme for all summons, and the Planar theme rocks.

The one thing I would suggest about it is to make it more common, so summoners can have the same sort of persistent summons as necromancers. However that might need use of reagents to balance it out as default zombies are rather weak now. I think it would be great as a spell if it worked to your usual theme, whatever that is, L3-4 summons depending on the power of the theme.

I believe Lesser Planar Binding is already changed to something else.

So many themes have very weak level 3 summons.. even when buffed. It would be good if specialised conjurers could have a level 4 creature for 24 hours.

I guess you're probably not aware that PCs can, independently of DMs, be able to summon +2 to some themes (so for example a level 3 creature could be a level 5, with lesser planar binding it would be a 24 hour duration level 5 summon that could be buffed up significantly).

And yes, lesser planar binding summons whatever you would summon if you cast summon creature III for 24 hour duration.

There are ways to boost summoning levels? Darn, wish I had known or discovered some as my conjurer character way back! That's pretty cool.

Obviously that sort of thing is, by design, not easy to do!

Of course, PLANAR BINDING has not received such a change and is the topic for this suggestion. It is similar to Lesser Planar Binding but they are not the same spell.

I am unsure if the neutral summon can be changed.
