As a whole, cursed items with pre-established un-cursing quests, would be fun rp wise. If only crossing the isle to reach mr. shaman guy who can cast "the only remove-curse that works" spell.

Following Stern's thread, i'm sure people have lots of ideas for funny (yet troublesome) cursed items.

Egon the Monkey

It *would* give a use for all those Beastman Powder Charms.
I would definitely say a player-cast Remove should be the way to go, so that those items and that spell see use.

helmet of wEird hallucinations

a helmet with 3 uses per day that basically summons any of the following

dog
clown
deep lizard
ogre
red eleint orc
gelatanious cube
urdlen fanatic

all these things have a 2/3 chance of being hostile and 1/3 chance of being buddies

Can an item have it's cursed status hidden?
I have no idea how possible this is, but a custom set-up, maybe with a spellcraft based wizard/priest ability to attempt to detect curses on items, would be very cool.
If this could be implemented it would allow a ton of items with decent looking stats and hidden irritating/crippling curses to hit the markets.
Sure would make that astral blade more interesting if it turned you into an orc.

Something like this is already IG!

I've always liked the idea of cursed items that might be "worth taking", meaning what they take away is compensated by a nice addition, but should you ever want not to have it, you can't, because you can't let it go. Even better if the items wouln't be seen as cursed untill you actually try to throw them away.

For example:
"Sword of Passion"
Longsword, +1 AB, +1d4 fire damage, On hit cast spell: flare and only usable by paladin. A hidden propiety, every time you kill an enemy it shifts your alignment slightly towards caotic, the explanation being anyone wielding this sword let's go for his own passion, leaving everything behind. Imagine a paladin loosing his powers to this sword, that could lead to some intresting RP

"Mantle of the wolf"
Cloack, Animal empathy +5, +2 AC. Allows you to shapeshift into a wolf unlimited times/day, this shape gives adidtional propietis. As a hidden propiety, evey time you turn into a wolf you make a will save, if you fail you temporarily loose some inteligence, by wearing this cloack you'r alignment slowly shifts to neutral, after a while of using it (give it enough time for the player to trust the cloack hehe...), if you don't succsed at the will save, you can't change back into a human, you become a wolf. Forever. (or untill some complex event turns you back)

"Crown of the undead king"
2 times/day you can summon a random number of undead summons that will fight for you, they all look the same but their strenght may vary from very weak to very strong. There is a small chance after a while they turn back and attack you. Might be worth using? may save your life, and then take it, or might just save it.. or.. what to do?

That sure sounds useless.
