This letter is read over, then read over again... and stashed away.

Deputy-Chief Scribe al Samar,
In your capacity as manager of the Head Clerk of the Officer of the Sublime Bank,
From the Desk of Apothar O. Kreutz,
Dictated, but not read:

We'll see.  Hah hah.

-Truly yours,
Under the light of the Moon,

Legate Domhnall Guivarch,

I know you hate this license chat, but there's something deeper here.  One of your usury-obsessive secretaries is making quite a mess.  Thought you might find it interesting, after our chat recently about cleaning up.

Let me know if there's anything to be done here.

A letter is attached...

Dear Scribe,
The Astronomers of Q'tolip are the authority over these licenses. Given that the Scribes have chosen (gleefully) to lobby that our licenses are not acknowledged by the state, we will not be disclosing any information regarding our selection process, pricing, etc.

Should you wish to (correctly) submit to the Legates and the public that our licenses are legitimate, we will then happily disclose the financial information you seek.

How much of the Sublime Bank's capital comes from your wages as Deputy-Chief Scribe?

Is the Sublime Bank listed on the Stele?

Is loaning upwards of 100,000 dinar to a political candidate, a portion of which emerged from state funds, capital theft?

Glorified notaries should be more mindful of how and when they attempt to play their hand.

I will be forwarding this to the desk of Legate Guivarch.  Expect an imminent inquest into your conduct.

-Apothar O. Kreutz,
On behalf of Apothar C. Mevura

The Esteemed Hamdan al-Hamdan,

Allow me some time to collect my notes.  I'm quite pleasantly surprised by your interest.  I will find you when I am prepared, don't fret.  I've my ways.

Decidedly charmed,
Apothar O. Kreutz

Dear Domhnall,

Today I had a very interesting dish.  A minced eel pie of (I was led to believe) Modini provenance.  It tasted very savory, but also a bit sweet toward the middle?  Very strange, but not totally unpleasant.  Washed down with some of that blue wine the Ashfolk brew in Baz'eel, as well.  I liked to imagine my plate and table became a kind of model of the future, with two foreign delicacies intermingling happily.

Hope you've not been neglecting your palate.

There was a small observation I wished to make known regarding our plans to convey water to this new district of yours.  Although Master Stern's work is impeccable and wondrous, have you considered that the people of the Well might convey water to their new homes via the magic of... jugs?

We could also teach them the secret arts of bowl-making as well.

Judiciously yours,
-Apothar O. Kreutz

Correspondence / Re: A letter to the Tower [Kreutz]

[A letter soon arrives, well pressed and smelling faintly of mizzar]

Magistrate,

My intention is to furnish a full summary when all of our experiments have concluded.  You and I may find the results of our interrogation infinitely fascinating, but my suspicion is that the Citadel at large would rather hear (truthfully) that we've managed to harm it.  At this time we've not yet begun probing its defenses.

We have established that the Beast is capable of cunning and deception.  We have also established that it can communicate.  It is difficult to parse, but the language is distinctly Low Fomorian.  I am leaving the translation of its answers to our questions to the Nadiri.  I understand they have reached out to your for tutoring in the language, and I commend the effort.

The Beast, and by extension the other Devils of Thirst, are capable of lying.  Feigning injury specifically.  Each experiment is equally an opportunity for our guest to test the bars of his cell.

I'll find you soon for a more involved chat.

Dearest friend,

I regret we've not had a moment for tea in some time.  Things have been more or less calm in the Tower.  A lot of laboratory work left undone, now being dusted off.

I thought of you while I was breaking my fast on a dish of eggs (Quail, if you believe it) and  rather sumptuous goat cheese.  It cost me a pretty penny, but an Apothar's wages are generous enough that from time to time we can enjoy an indulgence or two.

Speaking of indulgence, have you tried the makdous here? A very Baz'eeli sort of thing, eggplant stuffed with peppers and something a bit chewy.  I found the experience of beginning the day with a bit of spice both bracing and invigorating!

The Nadiri who I tasked with delivering this was given a few of these spicy delights for you to try.  Let me know if he's swiped them or lost them.

I dearly hope you've been enjoying meals as delicious as I have, and that you're doing well.

No great business, no tragedy to speak of simply,

Wishing you Well,
-Oscar K.

Correspondence / To Lieutenant Cherkes Faral Teg [DM]

Honored Lieutenant,

One of your Sergeants (Radislav Ludovich) is intentionally with-holding 557 dinar from an Apothar of the Eagle's Mount (myself).   This is not the first time I am told he has dipped his hands into the pockets of Voiced citizens, but it is the first time he has breached the Accord in this way. I would rather not collate this sum into some kind of ongoing corruption scandal.

It is entirely unacceptable for our Apothars to suffer the mistreatment that this man routinely has inflicted on us over the last several days.  We have enjoyed very close ties with the Legion for some time, and actions like this are severely straining our relationship.

I would rather minimize my interactions with your Sergeant.  He has stolen money from me.  What is my recourse here?

Slightly agitated,
-Apothar O. Kreutz

Legate Saenus,

We are swiftly searching for a solution to the worsening situation as it unfolds.  In the next day I will do my best to meet with you personally and discuss some of our options.

It's been too long since we spoke in a polite setting.

Esteemed Lieutenants and Sergeants,

After a disagreement and a brawl with Sergeant Radislav Ludovich this week, I was fined (reasonably) 3500 dinars for the matter to be settled.  Alas during my time in your cells and shackles, five-hundred and fifty-seven ADDITIONAL dinars were taken from me which remain unaccounted for - as the 3500 fine was paid in full.

Am I to understand that these 500 dinars are to be considered a finders fee for Sergeant Ludovich, perhaps an impromptu tithe to the Wroth (may all debts be paid, and all sinners their due), or should I expect my money to be returned to me in the coming days?

The sooner this matter is settled between us (as I thought it was) the sooner our organizations can set to mending fences and resolving to salve our strained brotherhood under the Accord.

Confused, and awaiting clarity,

Apothar Oscar Kreutz

Quote Domhnall,

Mayhem.  Balladeer's dead.  Alejandro and Qari on the warpath.

Talk soon.  Terrible things afoot.  Don't let them touch the Beast.

Honorable Legate,

Live and Drink, I pray this letter finds you in good health and for my own sake in good humor.  I wish to express my profound apologies regarding my behavior and attitude's expressed during our brief meeting.  My actions were unbecoming of one of my station, and though there were (and remain) external factors at play which drive me to some urgency and bluntness of character, there is no excuse for my conduct.

I would like to know if against all odds we could try again.  A meeting over tea at a place of your choosing, with the company of your choosing, at my personal expense.  I believe there is much you and I could learn from one another; and I would be eternally grateful for the opportunity to see you think better of me.

Earnestly yours,

Notices and Bulletins / Just the Facts
August 07, 2023, 08:19:38 PM
A studious looking projection of a Nadiri thoughtfully rubbing his chin can be seen flickering around the Souk, Plaza, and Krak now and then.  It stops to blurt the following at passerby:

In regards to meteors impacting the Shade!

  • Fact the First - Apothar Stern's ritual to summon a flaming Meteor from the cosmos destroyed the Sibilant Armies at the Legate's request!
  • Fact the Second - Gellemede rituals were enacted that drew a fragmet of the Meteor to the Well in order to Sabotage the Shade.
  • Fact the Third - Legate Marcellus and Legate Qari both defeated abortive attempts by known Gellemedes to run for their offices!
  • Fact the Fourth - Mari Blacke did not join the troops at the Battle of the Wastes, but stayed behind.

With every new bullet point the image waves its finger pointedly before fading out.
