First Journey: Revitalization

Siegward Eyck had never in his short span of thirteen years traveled quite as far as he had now. Thirteen years. He had hardly comprehended the foreign man when he'd spoke such oddities to him and his Master. Imperial Year, dates, weeks, months, all too foreign to this young giant. The City as he'd known it was gone, the great walls shattered to mere piles of rubble. The tides of the Nothing have inexplicitly abated. Cast aside as if some great light had suddenly been struck only to be replaced by the whipping winds carrying the accursed ash. The world was changing, that much was certain.
He stepped over a bit of collapsed rubble, leather jerkin creaking at the exertion. His older companion strode at the front, plate and chains occasionally rattling together. Despite Siegward's age the Gods gifted him a truly massive body which allowed him pass for adulthood both in stature and brawn. Besides that there would be no one to aid him in his journey aside from himself, he had to keep on the move.
The wake of the collapse left much to disarray, he hadn't even an idea as to which ring he currently occupied. Yet he saw the great marks upon the land where presumably the mighty machine had once trailed up the King's Road. If he followed long enough he knew he'd reach its end and at that point his fellow kinsmen. Whatever remained of the once noble houses of the Peerage Ward would be the end of their journey.
He paused to look onwards, a vast expanse stretching onwards unlike anything he'd ever seen. The cresting sun dotting the far horizon was and admittedly warming, beautiful, and terrifying sight to behold. There was a hard breath as he readjusted his pack and tighten his own cloak about him. His Master looked back to Eyck as he lagged behind. "Another foot in front of the other," he shouted!
Siegward hurried himself beside the robed man, the faint glimmer of his once vibrant purple cloak was still a familiar sight. "I don't see how we could possibly reach our end sir," He muttered aloud. "The water's near to its end in the skins. We haven't seen a rain since the collapse."
His Master paused, wheeling back on the boy. A great deal of scrutiny in his beady eyes. "What did the Dame tell you? I know you heard bloody well clear boy. Don't try and say any different."
There was a moment of hesitation, shifting of his feet before answering with determination. "To be strong. To be brave."
"And she gave her life so you could see that through. A knight's commandments are to be taken without question, boy." The older man turned back to the trail, pulling the purple cloak tighter. "Your word is your vow and no lack of damned water is going to stop that."
"Yes retainer," Eyck said with a sigh, "I understand."

Though the stinging of the winds and the dry smacking of his lips haggard Siegward he picked up his pace. His strides now matching those of his Velstran Master. The road is ever long, longer a distance than he'd ever seen before but a life was traded for his. However unfair it seemingly was, a knight for an orphan. Some might call it preposterous. Foolish even. Siegward could never understand why they'd returned when the dark closed in around him, when all things seemed lost, but that glimmer of moonlight shined true! Dame Jagoda the Just deemed his life worthy of something and it was by young Eyck's honor he'd see it true.

Preface

I've never been much of one to embellish or take liberty in the theatrics, these recountings of my trials and tribulations to the man you see today are to the best recollection as I can muster. Whilst I speak no lie I will admit to a great deal of dehydration along with curious and almost dream like encounters.

Thanks for making a game that always has me coming back. I always drifted from server to server unsatisfied but the hidden bits of lore, roleplaying, factions, intrigue, all of these things have latched me onto this world in particular.

Kanon Hray the 4th by Imperial Year.

The days are passing by quite swiftly and I must confess I am having a deal of trouble keeping track. Perhaps I should rummage through my pack more often, I had nearly forgotten I'd even penned these musings...

Progress in my previous plans on the other hand have been slower to a considerable degree. Sir d'Lyon has me working tirelessly to further our quests of righteousness. We in fact just saved a great number of children from some heavenly born horrors deep within the reaches of the far off wastes. A perilous journey across wastes inhabited only by the profane mutants and beasts the Gods bid us struck from what remains of our earth.

I must say, I nearly thought our efforts in vain and the visions provided to us untrue. That said! It was only right to see them sure or not and Gods' legs they were! Six in total and the lot of them protected by some twisted machinations of a deceased yet goodly wizard, let that effort not be forgotten. A day I shall hold with pride to be sure.

Tesrin Hray 18th by Imperial Year.

We have been spied upon, something I left out of my last entry. Foul machines of the Pra'raji heathens took keen intrests in our order's internal doings. We chased the thing off yet it came after us. Not some spying over janissary patrol routes but a rite preformed by the order of the rose.

We stand at a precipice. A great conflict is coming and all can see it even if they wish not to acknowledge it. I see not the reason in being caught by it idle! We are the order! Descendants of knights brave and bold! I intend to rally the faithful and the militant to action. The city states of this desolate ring realm refuse to commit until necessary yet I have sworn no fealty to this so called Sultan lord, nor have any of the rest among the Balladeers that I am aware of. Let us ride out in glory to join the Third Legion's skirmishes and retake the sacred soil of the Edutu from these blasted pagans!

Tesrin Hray the 17th by Imperial Year.

Much has transpired since my last writings yet I feel as if little has. I am troubled.

The Red Sacrament has been a revealing experience for myself and admitably my first partaking of the mythical brew. Never have I tasted such splendor nor seen sights of grandoer! Yet... I feel conflicted. I feel its grip not unlike any spirit taking some sort of hold, I must be cautious in these times that my vision is not clouded and lead me astray from the pathes of virtue.

At the end of this rite I was made squire. My pathes being to flourish, my promise to be upheld! I shall not fail you my good Lady!

I have also been officially ordained under the Mother's welcoming embrace by a peaceful priest of the name of Futus. I finally feel whole, content.

Tesrin Hray the 12th by Imperial Year.

Whilst I was not inclined to record much of my life in the past I think with the finding of my place among the order this new life deserves to be chronicled.

Not long now I have dwelled in the settlement of Ephia's Well. A curious place to say the least! Nothing like the realms of lords I knew as a child. They say a great Sultan sits atop this land far off in some distant capital, not too dissimilar from the King. I pray he is a good and noble monarch.

I have found them! The order of the Rose! The remnants of my peoples! Though it has taken many a daring act and parched march across countless dunes I have sworn my name to their cause, even if I must tolerate the mercenary scum surrounding it. I swore to make you proud My Lady as well as the Gods of auld, a vow I shall retake to these Gods new.

Well, I can officially say this was my longest lived character. Started him back on February 2nd so that's a little over half a year now. Good fun and certainly a captivating experience to dive into this new chapter with!

Huge thanks to all the people I'd roleplayed with. Every single one of them from the huge roster of soldiers to "friends" and political rivals. These specifically standout in my mind; Cosine Mevura, Estellise Azimi, Mae Stern, Kragg Stonefury, Gianluca Buonavetura, Gers Gieger, Wajeeb al-Sattar, Aaisha al-Samar, Aubrey Domergue, Amenya Graen, Leander Nifkil, Legates Qari, Marcellus, Sol Auk, and especially Lieutenant Rennik Colmes. Each of you made this new chapter rife with political intrigue and strife, easily making this the best experience I've had in awhile on EFU that always had me coming back.

---

Suppose I should lay out some details regarding backstory fluff, I always give my characters plenty to direct motivations and personality but I rarely go sharing them. I believe I actually never mentioned his proper backstory to anyone in game aside from small hints or glimpses. I hate dumping that on strangers and I think it would have been greatly unfitting aside from those he's grown closest to.

He was basically, imo, my poor attempt to emulate Sandor Clegane for GOT. Shadow said it best when I reminded them of Sergeant Rex from Star Wars, "Good soldiers follow orders." Not at all what I was going for but I'll take it. I don't believe I made him brutal enough but I did smile when Kragg or others called me the Hound/Sultan's Hound. I didn't make Joachim with the intentions to join the Janissary because I'd actually meant for him to join the Banda mercs. I saw that the Fourth was very low on manpower and decided I'd chip in alongside Rennik, Scarbrook, and A'tor as given his background I could easily make it fit.

Awesome faction with plenty of interesting stuff going on. It did have a really hard time keeping people and for that I kinda blame myself, I feel like there was stuff I could have been giving newer players to do that just didn't spring to mind. I did shoot for the promotion as at the time I was Rennik Colmes bruiser and basically the recognized drill sergeant. When he was gone I was pushed up and I wasn't anywhere near the detective or lawyer he was. Served better as a soldier who died trying to make up for his mistake. Very fitting in my mind.

Backstory
Hide
Joachim hailed from the Six Sacred Steppes of the City-that-Was where he grew in the lush plains of Dobi, around ring 332 if memory serves. Whilst a brutal society like many of the rings, he'd killed his first man at 12, he'd actually had a fairly swell childhood. Raised on the old stories of the King, Dorvant, knights of auld! His village neither dedicated to any Nothing cult or foul practice merely a dwelling of shepherds practicing the celestial faith of their ancestors and yet it was burned all the same in Egbert Velstra's crusade. He learned the hypocrisy of knight's, of their chivalry and honor, he takes to a more simple life of an honest warrior and kills with very little regard.

He'd successfully outrun the tides of the Nothing that lapped at his heels and found himself within the Great Ash Wastes, far more experienced than many after traveling the road so very long. All his life he's known nothing but running and killing for survival but not here, for once in his sad road he found civilization. No backalley warchiefs or lords on their piles of rubbish, where a child might not suffer as he had but he knew they'd need defenders, men who know how to handle steel and coincidentally the only thing he was really ever good at. He'd taken up allegiance to the Sultan Osman the VI as this is a true form of life headed by a real man, not some distant figure far from his world. He'd dedicated to his work and follows order near to without question, answering only to his betters or the Sultan himself.

  • Will not steal. Coin is won rightly through work or taking it from the slain. Bribery or elsewise is poor sport.
  • Never use poison for it is a coward's weapon, men kill with steel.
  • Be honest why he does what he does. He'll never hide behind honor or chivalry as an excuse for his killings. I didn't end up killing a great many of pcs.
  • Keep drink upon him almost always, less of a guideline but it makes the thirsty work easier. Always had a bunch of ale on me.
  • Whilst brutal to his foes and almost anyone he's commanded to fall upon Joachim due to his trauma will not do this to young children. He will either ignore the order entirely or go out of his way to aid a child.

But I know most don't actually care about that sorta stuff. It's the loot and build that's exciting!

Some might call me crazy for the combination or the idea and there were certainly better ways to go about it than I did but I will point out, I never died once in a quest. Somewhat of a determent actually as I towards my death was desperately low on a lot of gear, no coin to make up for it. I was only ever taken down by odd mishaps and my end.

My sword I earned for fighting off the Thousand Clans orcs, I really liked the actual model for it. Very cool.

This next I earned at the Red Hill... and instantly turned over to pay my insane debts. Haha, oh well.

Leaving the Sergeant's plate and cloak out for obvious reasons.

Turning to faith. I didn't choose any deity when I made him as I wanted the chapter to grip me with one. I only started embracing Urrazir at the end thanks to chaplain Ludovich, he makes for a damn good priest.

The letter is received after a due cleaning of the overflowing inbox. A reply is sent shortly after.

Legate,

Tolerating grandstanding by any of the Accord over the lawful actions of the janissary. I will not tolerate my men being assaulted in the streets and the perpetrator given a slap on the wrist and a warning, it's their hands that need taken. Manage this and our job as playing town watchmen will be ten times easier so I can focus on the actual threats outside our walls.

The deep gutters are a danger to us all as has been made evident. Filled to the brim with forbidden science and profane artifacts, I've seen them firsthand. Not a far cry from the sad tale of Qa'im. If you've the loyalty to the Sultan you'd seal those tunnels and order any trespassers given capital charges, only His Majesty should have sway over that dark realm.

Lifting the exile upon my conscript Bana Ondebottli. The moron is deaf but he reported straight to the Garrison to receive extra punishments, don't like it but I need the manpower.
