I feel like it's a little sad to just make the fighter more like the barbarian, in order compensate for barbarian currently being very powerful - according to what some people have been telling me.

With that said, it might be the correct path to take since I can't come up with other things than DI, perhaps DR but that is also a very powerful thing and both things seem to be more barbarian, than fighter-specific. With fighter's identity being based on feats, perhaps it just needs some fighter-only feats available that grant the things you suggest, or perhaps feats that grant more AC. Even though it ironically is already pretty feat starved, with some feats being a must like weapon specialization and cleave.

Fighter has two things that barbarians don't - feats and access to heavy armor. Perhaps it is also time to make some more powerful heavy armor available making them only useable by fighters.

Suggestions / Re: Bonus feat at Level 5
October 05, 2024, 08:38:23 AM
I don't like the idea of just giving every class a bonus feat at lvl 5. I play extensive rogues an I don't feel they need it. If there's something fighter doesn't need, it's definitely more feats.

I think if there are classes that feel like they need a boost, it should be argued individually and perhaps they could get something more interesting than just a bonus feat.

This makes me think the FE choices should grant some powerful things at lvl 8, so you have incentive to remain pure. Especially because you'll have 2 FE at that point.

In my opinion, FE has always been a pretty flawed design, which I don't feel like I have to elaborate. Admitted, I haven't played the class, but I still feel it's very difficult to justify why you wouldn't take FE human at the very least, and you'd have a huge advantage against over around 70% of the PCs, if you ever were to pvp.

I say instead of expecting players not to take a very powerful feat, a better idea would be to just remove FE playable races. With this, you would be able to instead boost the other feats and add more flavor to the class and perhaps foster some variety from ranger to ranger.

Some ideas that spring to my mind is to take inspiration from the enemies, give FE orc access to rage 2 times a day, give undead some concealment and perhaps DI (they're crit immune so DI is kinda reaching towards it). FE vermin could grant a powerful fireball trap on each reset, perhaps FE Fey could grant some sort of mass confusion. My point is the design should go wild, to make up for the lost FE playable races but also add some more interesting flavor to the class.

Suggestions / Re: Buff skill focus feat
September 25, 2024, 08:49:29 PM
I can see an argument in buffing them a little, although I would prefer some more interesting changes, such as the skill focus: heal, than a simple increase to their bonus.

Hide and MS now seems pretty pointless to waste feats on, when stealthy gives the same amount in each skill.

Fighter Perk: Wrecker

You don't care about aiming for your foe's weak spot. You care for consistent damage. Strike as hard as possible, no matter where you hit them.

Level 1: you can no longer deal critical damage. +2 damage

level 5: you always deal maximum weapon damage

level 8: +2 damage, +10% physical immunity

Fighter Perk: Whack of all trades

Versatility is important for a warrior. That is why you make it a habit of training with a different kind of weapon each day. You know that that by being familiar with all different kinds of weapons, you know how best to use each of them to their advantage.

level 1: you no longer have access to the feats 'weapon focus', 'weapon specialization' and 'improved critical'. Instead you gain all of these feats for one randomized weapon group each reset.

level 5: +3 discipline, +3 concentration

level 8: You gain additional advantages using weapons of a specific weapon group:

Axes: +3 vampiric healing, +15% physical immunity
Heavy Blades: Improved critical threat, +2 will
Light Blades: 15% concealment, +2 damage, +2 Reflex, wounding on hit
Close Quarters: +2 damage, +1 ab, +2 DR
Maces and Flails: When you strike a foe they have to make a fortitude save of your fighter lvls + ½ your int lvls or become stunned
Hammers and Clubs: +1 AC, +2 fortitude
Polearms: +20% movement speed, improved initiative, improved disarm
Ranged: +1 AB, called shot, +2 damage

edit: okay, I realize some of these things are a little overpowered. And another thing I didn't take into account at all is dual wielding when I wrote this a little fast.

Still, I think the perk would add some interesting flavor. Perhaps it could also get a better name but that was the best I could come up with, since weaponmaster is taken.

Greetings astronomers. This is Qarim al-Qarez writing. I have been in the well for a few days and hope to purchase one license of astronomy. I am hoping one apothar can perhaps leave a reply to me, in the Krak to arrange a meeting so I can get my license.

I intend to use the license to preserve old items I find in my explorations and would think it a shame if they are just left for the ash.

Rogue Minor Perk: Charlatan

You have always enjoyed convincing others of your talents in fields you know little about. It brings you pride when your true talent convinces others to grant you the occasional reward. Those who see through your lies however, have little respect for you.

+3 bluff, gain a completely random trinket each reset, merchants will have a less favorable reaction to you

Suggestions / Height advantage
August 31, 2024, 01:50:20 PM
No idea if this is possible to program and it would probably be a big gamechanger. But still, I think it would offer some realism if you got +2 to AB if you were shooting ranged attacks at people that are below you. Height is supposed to have some advantage.

Suggestions / Spring Attack - give it some prereqs
August 31, 2024, 08:04:11 AM
Spring Attack is a pretty powerful feat and I think it's a gamechanger that it's now available to anyone. I do however find it a little strange that characters with 8 DEX and no tumble can now easily dodge every movement-based attack of opportunity - I think it should maybe require 12-14 DEX and/or 4 skills in tumble

Correspondence / Apothar Mae Stern

A letter is delivered to the Tower of Q'tolip, upon the title is written "To Apothar Mae Stern"

"This is Graham Brackwell writing. I seek a license of archeology and was told by one of the nadiri, that you are the only one that can hand these licenses out? Please let me know when the next time it is convenient. As an aspiring citizen it will be a great honor to help preserve the history of our well and beyond.

Just deliver a reply to the Krak des Roses where I've returned, now that they've dealt with their mouse problem"

Journals and Musings / Re: Euris Duprance's journal

So I tried to sit through one of these famed trials in the well. Thought it was best to see the justice system in person. What a bore. Apparently the janissaries believed some man to be a necromancer. They had found three suspicious items in his possession - one of them was a key which we all should just know was suspicious I guess? I sat listening for a long time, but it seems there were no specific evidence which makes me wonder - was the janissaries just too incompetent to get proper proof or was the law just too demanding? I have no idea but it certainly wasn't for me. I left the hall before the sentence was carried out. There's a motivator to never get in trouble with the law. You'd have to sit at one of these boring trials.

Over all, I've had a decent stay in the Well but it's time to leave. I haven't found the kind of work I hoped for. Sure it's decent pay to do boardwork and worming is just a source of income you'll never run out of. But I don't want to live my life as a mercenary. It's time to find a caravan to get to Baz'eel. People have said the city is barred off but surely they must have need of servants. It's best to see for myself instead of just remaining here.

It's been good fighting alongside Hilda and the others. I do regret purchasing a machinist's license just before leaving but maybe it's best to throw it out when I'm sure I can gain entrance to the Golden City.

Fighter Perk: Grappler

Some warriors sacrifice brute strength for clever combat maneuvers. They might not be the one that slay the dragon, but they will be the one that exposed its vulnerability for someone else to strike that critical blow. True tacticians understand the importance of this role.

lvl 1: Called Shot
lvl 5: -2 DMG, +1 AB
lvl 8: +1 AB, 2DR

I tried making a living by worming, but all they paid my for my hard work were grinding stones and coffee. How's one to survive from that? I ended up joining some warriors for boardwork. It wasn't as bad as I feard but it's a terrible feeling, killing humans - thinking individuals that have chosen to occuppy a granary and instead of fleeing when my group attacked them, they fought till the end. Sure, they were bandits but it feels bad to put a sword through a man's chest and watch him taking his dying breath. I try to tell myself that he would have done the same to me, had he had the chance.

Later we went to some monoliths where kobolds were apparently aplenty. My companions said it would be an easy haul so I ended up coming along and we managed, but it wasn't without some struggles. Most of our attack went pretty smoothly, but when we came near the end, the number of kobolds had gathered up. One of my companions charged ahead and was knocked unconscious. The rest of us withdrew and managed to actually defeat the kobolds. This lady had said it would be so easy to fight the kobolds and yet she was the one biting the dust? She even told me I should consider taking the backline, when I was the only one who didn't suffer major wounds in that assault? I guess I do have more to learn, but still. I hope I can find other ways to make a living than killing things for gold.
