Quote::[ City Sending by Yseult Vatein : Sanctuary, I come to you today with a bit of sad news. ]::

::[ City Sending by Yseult Vatein : When I took up this Prefecture, I did so with a great deal of hope. I believed very strongly that by working together and making our voices heard that we might be able to make a much brighter future for this city that we call home. ]::

::[ City Sending by Yseult Vatein : Sadly, in my time as one of your officials, I have learned that this is not the case. To go forward as I have, to assert that all is well while the Vaults prepare to crumble, would be a terrible lie. As such, after much consideration, I have decided to step down from my position as Prefect. ]::

::[ City Sending by Yseult Vatein : Dark times are upon us, Sanctuary. Do not lose sight of the people and things that matter to you. And, as always, do not lose your faith in the Divine. If anything shall save us from ourselves, it is them. ]::

I have decided to quit playing Yseult. Though I enjoyed the roleplay, I really struggled with aspects of the character and came to not really enjoy playing her. Between several plans not quite working out and mechanical issues, I had reached the point where I was logging in more out of a feeling of obligation than really wanting to continue. Because of that I decided it was better to let go.

I made Yseult to help test out a new alternate style of Sorcerer. The only requirements were that the character had to be good, so I quickly spun up a neat little idea for a woman who took her powers as a sign that she was chosen by a higher power. A little zealous, accepting no alternative views from her own on the nature of the Gods and her gift, and very xenophobic in her hatred of the 'wicked' races. I enjoyed the contrast of a kind and optimistic person with a deep hatred for perceived evil creatures. I didn't really have any long-term goals, however, so on a whim I decided to run for Prefect of the Temple, thinking it would be a neat way to involve Clerics and Paladins on the server.

Except, I wound up getting it much sooner than I had expected! And, a few of the chief allies I'd talked about helping set things up with had to leave their characters due to real life concerns. I struggled for a while to recruit others, making calls for faithful people and discussing the potential for an order of knights to make a Crusaders style faction and Get Weird with it. But, it didn't pan out. As a result I had a difficult time deciding what to do with the character, and largely helped support the efforts of political allies. Had things gone differently I had hoped to see her become a little more zealous, believing herself some manner of chosen arbiter of goodness in the city! Unfortunately we never did get to see Exalted Mother Yseult Vatein, a title I was looking forward to forcing people to use when proper power trip mode kicked in.

Big thanks for Blue41, Pandip, SHSLDetective, Red_Judas, Pentaxius, and Rip and Tear. Even while my own shit was faltering you all made the political landscape very fun to work in.

I'm not gonna post all the screenshots I took, but here's a greatest hits gallery:

See ya later guys.

When telling a story between enemies it is very easy to resort to hatred and vitriol. Reman Havelstein was not that sort of character, however, and remained always polite and approachable even to those he directly went to bat against. I think he was far more interesting for it! I always enjoyed our direct interactions, limited as they were by the differences in our characters, and it was a delight to see Reman's often sad story from afar.

Yseult wished very much to try and find some good in the man who routinely stood for what see saw as evil, coming to speak to him moments before the trial that would take his life. There was far less consensus upon the Tribunal than some might think that day! I have a few images of Havelstein, but this one is still my favorite:

Reman and Yseult sharing a discussion on how best to work together to improve Sanctuary, before going on to become political enemies.

Honestly, given how lax security is at the gates it seems like it would be quite trivial for all but the most notorious of criminals of just put on a disguise and walk right into the city anyways. That means that it isn't actually all that hard to make assassination attempts, which have the benefit of confusion and can even potentially go undetected if done well. Which means that only more open attacks on the city will face the difficulty in escaping, and... isn't that sort of the point? If it is incredibly easy to make strikes on the city it carries less weight when it does happen. The risk of being caught only serves to make larger attacks more legendary in their wake. If you're going to make an open terrorist attack on Sanctuary it's the sort of thing you'd want to have a well-prepared and well-equipped band for.

Really, given that not too long ago a single man managed to break through the Watcher barricade I don't think it is that much of a problem as people seem to believe.

So it turns out I'm a liar! While I was ill I couldn't get myself in motion, but I am back now. Still recovering a tad, but expect to see me IG once more.

I've been a little sick recently, which has made it harder to get the proper motivation to log in and do stuff. I'm going to try and not drop off the face of the world completely, but if you need Yseult for anything in particular feel free to send me a PM telling me to get my ass in gear.
