A HOLD KNOWN ONLY IN DREAMS
A CLAN UNMADE AT THE SEAMS

YET BRIGHT, HIS COURAGE STILL GLEAMS

IN LONELY GLOOM HE NOW SLEEPS
AWAITING DEATH IN THE DEEPS

AWAITING THE AXE THAT REAPS

LORD OF UNGLITTERING GOLD
SPEAKER FOR SOULS YET UNSOLD

WE CALL ON YOU, LEGATE BOLD

Three topics do I call for, from the government of Ephia's Well.

Three conversations do I beckon, from those who swore friendship and alliance to the Doom-Fate.

OF THE FIRST: I am told that the Murderer's mark remains upon your Stele of Law. This, I have been told by Argent Argyris, and I demand that it be amended promptly. It is a thing of madness to revere the dark god of our enemy, worse still to name him paramount within your walls. I call upon you to change the patron of Ephia's Well to another, and to condemn the Murderer and all who worship him.

Further, in three parts, I make comment on this item:

  • I tell you that this day, Tabbah 3, 7788 IY, my warband journeyed into the depths of Nusrum and discovered many brutal sacrifices laid at the feet of an altar to the Murderer, the tortured corpses of men, elves, dwarves, and Ashfolk alike. We of Got Valdhazr spit upon this depraved god. We spit upon all who praise him.

  • I tell you that priests of the Murderer should be censured, and driven back into the secret lodges where their full numbers hide. Under your own law, Illegal Worship and Practise, it can be said that such cultists are a threat to Ephia's Well, for their rites and prayers empower the very same Axe that comes to cut apart the world.

  • I tell you that a more fitting god of battle would be Umbur, the EARTHQUAKE, or as you know him, the WROTH. I propose alternately, if you begrudge the Fourth Legion too much to make common cause with their fearsome patron, that Kali & Gali, the SHEPHERDS, would make unflinching allies to any hero that might risk their lives for the betterment of the world.

OF THE SECOND: I behold that there stands two empty embassies in your demesne. I ask that one such space be apportioned to the dwarves of Got Valdhazr, pledged allies within this Union, where my grandfather may place huscarls and a secretary of our nation. In doing this, a line of contact shall be available even when the Minningar are far afield in distant battles.

OF THE THIRD: The Warmaster has dawdled in sending the Sukaitza saboteurs to destroy the siege engines of Obatauk, the Slayer of Dynasties, and thus bolster our embattled position against the foe. In the aftermath of our meeting with Yataghan, he claimed that he delayed because he sought first to take the measure of this eastern general. He has done so. He then promised again that he will commit the Sukaitza to Got Valdhazr. And yet as I continue to visit the Imperial Divan, I still see their token camped idle in the shadow of Ephia's Well. I bid for the joint chiefs of this city, the Legates, to directly give the order to deploy the Sukaitza. These reinforcements have been repeatedly promised for our hold throughout the two weeks following our arrival, but have still not been sent. This should be corrected without further delay.

We trust that your answer shall be immediate and thorough.

THE AGES CHANGE
NO HAMMERS FALL

DARK OMENS REIGN
IN EMPTY HALLS
IN EMPTY HALLS

THE FIRE DIES
THE HEARTH GROWS COLD

A PALLOR LIES
ON CRUMBLING HOLD

FOR VANITY
WE SPURN OUR FATE

OUR DOOM HAS COME
THE HOUR IS LATE

Before the small people of the Ash learned civilization, when still they were squabbling barbarians who worshiped animal idols, before the coming of Marib, before the founding of the Caliphate, the vast Empire of Greater Kulkund already stood proud and old. In these before times, the greatest of our forefathers still lived and breathed as mortal kin: the Ancestor Gods.

The Ancestor Gods, who watch over us still, wielded the deep magic to craft a sacred Wheel, engraved their names upon it, and set it in motion to travel the roads of time. Still they roam. Still they learn and judge and act. Each, a great paragon of our race, though some great and terrible in equal measure. All are revered, but for the murderous traitor Coordum (spit upon his name), who has taken to an unclean love of the orcs over his own people, who shall instead be scorned for his honorless depravity across all the long ages to come.

It became custom, in the time of the Empire, for each lineage of the Ancestor Gods to form a caste. These castes would aspire to continue the righteous work of their grandfathers, so that all might prosper. For thousands of years, this orthodoxy served us well, and we flourished in number and wealth. However, those very riches were our undoing. Our times of plenty made us complacent, which gave way to hubris, which gave way to misrule.

It became custom, in the time of the Empire, to accept no charity. Donations between castes became the gravest mark of dishonor, shaming both the recipient and their Ancestors before them, for it implied the humiliation that what the Ancestors gave us, what they taught us, was not enough for that craven beggar. We understood that we were above such degradation. We resolved as a people never to stomach the insult of a gift freely given. We would answer with equal payment, always, in every matter.
