Probably my favourite game! The clan you pick there shouldn't matter much, they all get access to the same skills, only their disciplines vary... I don't think they affect the gameplay drastically...

Might roll a new character to come back soon (tonight?). Friends, new boyfriend and moving houses twice in the recent past have kept my attention away from the internet... I had a dream about EfU a couple days back and woke up with a huge itch to play that won't leave... guess I can't help being nerdy...
Since my life's slowing down again I figure it's the perfect time to check up on things =)

Sorry to those who've lost contact with me or wondered what I was up to these past months, any weird nicknames related to mermaids in-game will probably be me! (as usual)

Hope to (re)meet some new and old roleplayers soon =)

Quote from: Stranger;381032I will be visiting my maternal family in China.

I leave April 26th and may be away as long as May 17th. I do not expect this to inconvenience a soul.

Nooo!

On that note, I'm delaying my return for a while longer. Perhaps another week or two.

Quote from: Knight Of Pentacles;380622CEP contains tons and tons of junkie stuff that doesn't fit into EFU.

Which needn't have a place in the module. I personally think CEP would be a good addition, or at least some of CEP's content. I'm fairly certain that all servers (or at least the ones with an active playerbase, with the exception of Arelith) already use CEP. Neverwinter Nights has become such a niche game that I doubt CEP would affect the influx of new players. Gamespy's server browser is long gone, as is their account system, anyone capable of finding servers to join is also capable of getting CEP (that comes in very user-friendly install packages).

Our Kuo-Toans in-game are lizards, CEP would address this. Same with the myconids, even if we have a HAK for that now. There's just an absurd amount of creatures that CEP brings, a variety of new costumization options (some good, others very questionable), a ton of new icons for the inventory (no longer would raw chicken look like fire-beetle bellies), aswell as some great portraits to make use of.

The game is dated and old, anything to "refresh" its appearance would be welcomed by most players, I think. I don't like everything about CEP but it does add a bit of novelty to the game.

I get wanting to minimize the amount of .hak content to facilitate access to the server, but at this stage in the game's life, what could potentially drive people away from trying EfU: the inclusion of easily obtainable haks that vastly expand the game's visuals or limited amount of visual resources?

I think restricting custom content and sticking with vanilla NWN stuff is fairly limiting, specially inside the toolset... If the areas look good now, imagine how much more detail could be added with CEP content. I think most new players here would be NWN veterans or former NWN players who're returning to try the game out... I don't think there's that many newcomers who're entirely new to the game aswell and if there are, surely CEP will be the least of their worries, since it's a requirement to play on most servers nowadays. Geez, chances are that by the time someone finds out about EfU, they already have CEP installed... That was surely my case.

Anyway, just my opinion. My experience with the toolset is limited, so if CEP's a "bad idea" because of any conflicts it could cause with certain scripts or compability issues, then I understand... but otherwise I don't see what's so bad about it...

Might pop in tonight or otherwise in the near future, once I can finish planning a character that I can stick to and muster enough motivation to roll it. =)

I think everything's documented pretty well, if something's not clear in-game, then there's a lot of knowledge compiled here in the forums. I never had an issue with that, but I kind of had other people's help, so maybe I overlooked the issue...

It seems that EmeraldFalcon's main problem with the server are the death penalties. Honestly, I know how frustrating it can get, specially in the case of "cheap" deaths, with enemies being lured next to area transitions and other misfortunate things... however, I think it's a much needed "evil" to the server.

Deleveling is frequent, if not almost unavoidable. I won't be a hypocrite and say that I never got upset towards a character death and that you learn to live with it; on the countrary, it hurts. When I had a steady PC, close to level 8, then died... I was so disheartened that I started crying. That's rather normal for me, however, I've always been a crybaby, but it's definitly not common for a videogame to upset me like that.

My point with that is to say that I don't think EfU is "for all audiences". It's really not, I think you need certain traits in your personality to appreciate it. While I'm admittedly a whiner and a crybaby who blames everything and everyone except myself, I'm also ridiculously stubborn and a bit of a perfectionist about things I get invested in. This makes me regard the leveling side of EfU as a challenge and when I die I just come back, even more determined to get what I want. If you like challenges, then you will appreciate EfU's difficulty... if you're easily discouraged and unwilling to tolerate bad feelings from a videogame, then I think you'll just find the server frustrating. If, on the other hand, overcoming great challenges makes you feel better about your accomplishments, then you'll like it here.

I don't think EfU rewards those who spend a lot of time in-game, unlike other less hardcore servers. It's very easy to obtain XP, you can easily get level 5 or 6 (if you search for a group) in one sitting. Within an hour of creating a character and strictly playing on your own, you can find yourself nearing level 5. Then you can either find a group to run one quest that'll cover the missing XP or come back the next day to get the level on your own. Of course, as a new player who doesn't know where the quests are located and where to go, obtaining level 5 by yourself can seem like a chore, specially if you've just been hanging around the worm-pits.

I won't give you the "it's just a game" arguement and tell you to get over it. That's the stupidest, most condescending piece of "advice" one can give. This is a hobby, something you've invested time and ability in. If you fail and get punished, you're obviously going to feel let down, unless you totally don't care for the game you're playing... in which case, why would you be playing it?
Being upset when you "fail" is human nature, not "obsession". The fact that it's "just a game" means absolutely nothing once you start to dedicate time and effort to it, so I hope we don't see "illuminated" minds tossing it around here, as I've seen on IRC whenever someone gets upset about dying. I think what EmeraldFalcon and other people in his/her situation need is to be remembered that it's happened to all of us. We've all taken a blow and we all know how much it hurts... it's really natural to get frustrated.

It "kind of" gets better, if that's any encouragement. :p
No, really, if you keep playing, you'll delevel again. Just be prepared for it. It'll hurt as much as it did before, but you'll find it easier to make back what you lost. You learn enemy abilities, you learn where quests are, you'll progressively improve your gear, you'll have better supplies... it just works.
If it's any incentive, I find level 6-7 to be the levels you'll spend the most time in. Not 4-5. Once you're past those levels, you'll likely not drop back to them, so you can take your wild shape for granted?

To finish my long post... I think that the harsh death penalties heavily contribute towards the server atmosphere. They force everyone to RP being afraid of dying; if you want to be heroic, you'll know that the risks you take are real. Being a "hero" is not easy. And by "hero" I don't mean the players sitting on their level 8+ statue-characters inside Sanctuary, I mean those who  actually risk their necks to venture into dangerous places, it's not for the faint of heart! Takes real courage to have courage IG, and that's one thing I like about EfU...

Also, I'm sure that if you stick around, EmeraldFalcon, you'll greatly appreciate the tension that stems from walking around the Underdark alone. Few would probably survive, but I'd advise any new players to do it on their own, at least once... It's like playing a horror game, you'll genuinely feel scared! I know I did it a few times on my first character and always payed for it. =P

Good news, but I'm a bit skeptical. I wonder if they'll allow you to moderate your "shards"... such as banning players and the sort. Even if does allow the use of a toolset and DMing, then there'll be the matter of whether the gameplay's actually good and conducive to RP...

Never thought I'd have fun RPing trailer trash but I've to say I loved it. It's somewhat liberating to play as a trashy character that has no constraints... feel like I won't be judged because it's not really "my character"... it's just a McGlitt and she's expected to be an airhead who has no clue about societal norms, so I can just portray someone who's decadent without fearing judgement.

I'm really happy that I got to feel once more like one of my characters has direction, "life" so to speak, with so many PCs and NPCs in the character's background, aswell as a set of objectives now. I really hope that at least some of us continue playing these characters, I'd like to keep going with mine, even if my stats make me useless outside of social RP. I'll probably be the only McGlitt left alive, but if the McBlatts keep playing it'll still be interesting. =)

Please don't abandon your characters! It's sort of demoralizing to feel debilitated in combat but I think the roleplay doors that a prelude like this opens for us are far more conducive to having fun than a mechanically viable crushbot kobold-slaying machine. Can roll one anytime, but outlandish villagers deprived of morals and education come around once a year, we should seize the opportunity. =P

Diana McGlitt

When Judith McGlitt held Diana in her arms for the first-time, after hours of painful labour assisted by her mother and cousins, she knew right away this baby would be her favourite; for starters, Diana didn't look deformed and showed no signs of mental anomalies. She went through childhood without growing hair on her legs, unlike her older sister, so Judith could only assume that her youngest daughter had everything to make it big in Goar's Rest. "If she can make it here, she can make it anywhere" she thought!

Diana grew up to be a shallow, conceited air-head, absorbed in vanity and her dellusions of grandeur. She started working at her uncle's tavern during her teen years, amusing inbreds by flirting with them while pouring their cups. She was socially gifted and enjoyed her role of teasing. Needless to say, her uncle's tavern thrived, as she kept the clientele coming back for more, a genuinelly stupid, naive crowd hoping to get lucky.

The Princess of Goar's Rest had it all to be the star of her pathetic little village, but then the end of the world came, threatening to crush all of her "ambitious" dreams and destroying everything she was working for...

Quote from: CondorHero;378911Hello folks, I play Hamir Huntsman, been snooping around for a while, and just now made a forum account.

I went through a bunch of new characters just to get used to the game (some of those died in the hardcore prologue, haha)

It's been interesting so far despite many setbacks I suffered in the game, I'm going to keep Hamir alive as long as possible. See you in game.

Welcome! I'm Neri, we've roleplayed briefly. Let me know if you have any questions or find yourself in need of help. =P

Quote from: Yugen;378919Hi guys I'm a returning player, nice to (re)meet you all :)

Welcome back! Same thing as above applies. =D
