I don't know, I see the point of the suggestion because I've found myself unable to do much to them at times as well. But at the same time there's ways to kill them, some of them rather easy if you've got the proper weapons/items. And I'm talking about weapons anyone can use that will kill a large number of them rather quickly, but only a very small number of people carry these things.

You see the incident immediately if you catch the thief, but sometimes you won't notice the missing gold right away. Noticing that the gold is missing is not the same as catching the perpetrator, you'd then need to work out who did it through roleplay. Those are two different scenarios. Because of that the rule is you don't need to hostile if you're unstealthed, to avoid metagaming.

If you want to react it's not so hard to turn hostile and do so, and you don't need to check for a DM because by the rules it's the pick pocket's responsibility to have done that before making their attempt. If they haven't and you attack it's the thief the broke the rules, not you.

As far as oocly not noticing the message, well I don't know if there's as solution for that other than paying closer attention.

Silly git going and dying. A great PC, and will be sorely missed.

And because I had time and was motivated, here's Molly Smogson in color.

And yet Marlow well out-lived the Muster!

Good character, Ryan, I enjoyed the roleplay.

I throw it right at my feet. Close as I can get, and try not to move until I get blinded. Not sure if maybe it's better to throw it at other people or not.

It still is buggy. Molly used it yesterday to slip away from three PCs, all hostile. I waited for the blindness effect before moving, but all three saw her the entire time.

The unfortunate elf happened to walk through the room of the Mist's End at the very moment some Aberdenn PCs were getting drunk over the killing of one of their compatriots by the Eldreth Veluuthra. As a result the elf was followed outside by one of the bannersmen. To be honest, I'd have been more surprised if the elf wasn't harassed in this particular circumstance.

It was indeed unfortunate timing, but it wasn't exactly as if it was a confrontation the very moment the elf logged on. It happened outside the tavern, and only turned to violence once the elf refused to be searched.

These are the sorts of things that happen on EfU, and frankly they're encouraged. Sure, it can be a little jolting, but it was a brief PvP and then a search, and then the elf was sent on his way.

All of the players who have been here for a time have likely had this happen to them dozens of times. When you're new it takes some adjusting to these things. But after a bit you come to realize that such conflict is a boon to EfU, and worth the short amount of stress and confusion you go through when it happens to you. Without these kinds of conflict the roleplay would frankly break down as players stretch the bounds of credulity in order to avoid direct conflict. It's these things that make EfU seem alive and vibrant, though on occasion you'll wind up being the one who's PC eats a bit of dirt in the process.

I like it in the private channels because you're less likely to miss a sending since there is often less chatter there. Though I suppose everyone will have a preference.

So what we'll see is spellcasting PCs on the hunt for other PCs, buffing up fully then patrolling from one safe rest spot to another (or in a circle). Then going to rest before even their turn/round buffs end, rebuffing, and repeating, always fully buffed with pretty much everything, in as constant a cycle as they please.

I just felt it should be pointed out what kind of thing it would facilitate.

Quote from: Random_White_Guy;326919That being said- Moving a PC from a non PC area during PvP into an NPC area via Blackout mode I think should be seriously frowned upon. This creates both impossible chance to recover a PC as no DM may be around and just an overall "Well fuck, just kill me now" feeling.

This last point is a very good one, and one I feel could do with some manner of addressing. If no DM is on a BO'd PC could easily be moved to an NPC area such as by Muskroots Tower and therefore be beyond rescue, despite PvP which might still be ongoing just in the Crossroads (using these areas as examples.)

Well, just as a comment, how "lame" it is really only has to do with what the DC required to succeed would be. If the DC is high enough to give a reasonable chance of the "putpocketer" being caught, then it's not really so different from missing or making a save in PvP.

The way EfU is currently set up, questing alone is not the way to get supplies/gold. If you rely only on that as a means the going will be slow and difficult. However, if you rely on a variety of means you can gain both gold and supplies rather swiftly. Questing is more about the fun of it, as well as roleplay and a means to become allies with other PCs (as it should be). For this questing is very effective.

The low player numbers of late is really just an occurrence over the last week, or even less. I don’t think it will last, so I wouldn’t much worry on that front.

As far as a fear of doing the more difficult quests goes, I do think that in general players are a bit afraid to stick their necks out of late, with some exceptions of course. That’s a shame because the game becomes far less enjoyable as those characters then fall into an indecisive, reactive rut that can be difficult to clamber out of.

EfU is most fun when you’re bold, and I don’t just mean leaping into PvP or acting suicidal. But when you take a concept and stick with it no matter the consequences instead of backing off because you’re worried that your PC may die, lose XPs, wind up low on supplies, whatever. EfU will become bland and frustrating. The goal isn’t survival, it’s fun, and if you don’t step a bit out of your comfort zone as a player you’ll never get to see the best side of EfU.

If you die sometimes the points will be removed, even beyond what you might have lost from the previous level.

Yes, if you're doing it from stealth then you need to be hostile, if you're not stealthed then you don't hostile because it would allow you to instantly ID the thief just by whoever the red guy is.
