Roll up an Orderman already. You don't want this happening to you!:

I just had the identical problem, and my PC does have Curse Song (though I know it's not needed). It seems as if "Dirge of the Tormented" is likely bugged.

From what I've personally seen, FDing your enemies leads to two things, not having enemies anymore. And also often you don't get new ones since players aren't so fond of engaging if they don't think their PC will get mercy from a PC they perceive as much more powerful than there's.

This isn't to say that FDs should never happen, because there's a time for them. But to be honest, just doing what makes IC sense is often counter-productive.

FDing doesn't only kill PCs, it can actually kill conflict, not encourage it.

I had this happen with two items on the same death.

Class: Bard

Item: Lesser Arcanist's Cloak
Acquired: From one of the Priory's chests two weeks ago
Equipped: No
Killed while wearing: No
Blacked out: No
Number: 2, only once, after respawning

Item: Ooze Hunter's Spear
Acquired: From an Order PC a month ago
Equipped: No
Killed while wearing: No
Blacked out: No
Number: 2, only once, after respawning

Yes, the problem with buying songs is no one's selling. People don't want to take a 600-1,000 xp hit in order to turn a 200-300 gp profit, it's simply not worth it to them.

Furthermore, there's a large discrepancy on who has songs and who doesn't. Older PCs that are rarely played have decent songbooks because they benefited from the easier access, also newer PCs lucky enough to somehow acquire one of these older bard's songbooks have songs. New bards who don't get lucky in this manner don't have songs. I know from personal experience, after playing my current bard a month, I've seen three songsheets I have found/been gifted. All of them were Ymphian Jungle Hymn. Also, a PC asked mine to tell him what songs the recently deceased dwarven bard had in his book...he had none.

There's these great songs that add to a concept currently ingame, and no real way to access them. This is why I suggested the background idea, so each bard can at least have a single song that matches their concept. If the power of some of the songs would be a concern then it's easy to keep them off the list of songs a bard can acquire in this fashion.

I know I'm personally quite disappointed that it seems so impossible to find a song that fits my concept. I feel that it's desirable that players can tailor their concepts through these sorts of things, and bards could in the past. Right now they can't.

Part of the problem, Egon, is the NPC is gone. It's near impossible to find a decent selection of the songs. I personally have little hope of finding one that fits my PC.

I really don't see how these PCs will be anything other than KOS nuisances, NPC spawns without the "N." I'm not trying to be a naysayer, but I do think that people are missing that there's far more to the server plot than just H'bala.

For instance, Order PCs are pushing faction goals daily that don't involve the Conclave conflict. As a matter of fact, that bit of conflict only occupies a fraction of what the Order PCs are doing ingame.

I'm pretty certain that the same could be said for the Conclave PCs who have a lot of plots going on as I understand it, but people perceive only the obvious stuff that hits them in the nose day to day.

[tface=fellsc]Holy Chalsembyr[/tface]

So it came to be that the Risen  rose from the Lake of Mist, sword in hand and clad in gleaming mail.  The Heavens cried out in joy as the Life of Man had begun.

And so we stand upon the holy land of Chalsembyr, birthplace of Man,  seat of the Three. Harken close, the Truth can be heard upon the very  Mists for those with the ears to hear. For it is Chalsembyr that is the  beginning and the end, and all those who open their hearts shall be  blessed, whilst those who avert their eyes and close their ears shall  remain blind.

It is as it was and ever shall be, until the End of Days.

[tface=fellsc]The Conversion of Saint Mororn[/tface]

  And so it was that Saint  Mororn passed. For his heresies against the True Faith he found only  unspeakable torments. But the Gods of Men are not without mercy. From  the grave he was summoned, and upon bare feet he did walk to the Lake   of Mist, compelled by the word of the Three. As he waded into the sacred  waters, above the lake in the swirling Mists a robed figure appeared  and spoke unto him.

“I am they who are the Three, they who are the Gods of Man. You have lived a false life, a life of sin.”

Upon hearing these words Saint Mororn knew them to be true, despair  filled him. “It is true, I have seen my error and what awaits. I see I  have been false, and it fills me with great sorrow. I see that there is  only the Three, the Gods of Man. I repent and ask forgiveness for my  sins.”

The figure of the Three offered a hand to the old priest. “We see in  your heart that you speak true. You have done good works in your life,  and it is only just that we accept you into our embrace. In death you  will join the side of the Unbroken. You will know our mercy.”

Gladdened, the old priest took the hand of the Three and was led into the depths of the Lake  of Mist.

This is the Word of the Three.

[tface=fellsc]The Last Days of Man[/tface]

 It shall come to pass,  finally, that the Dreamer’s Breath shall lift and the Great Darkness  shall fall. Not even the sight of the Gods shall penetrate this eternal  night, and they shall not hear the cries of pain, nor the desperate  prayers. It shall be on this day that all shall end, hope flees, there  is nothing but black. In this last hour shall the Fate of Man be  determined by the Children of Man who are of True Faith.

Just to straighten it out, the factions don't get XPs up to 10th level. More like 6 or 7th, I don't know for certain. I just know my PC stopped once I got a short ways into 6th level.

Bards on EfU have typically had a lot of advantages, and so making the custom bardsongs harder to find as they currently are now makes some sense. However, the shame of it is that finding the flavorful bardsongs that fit your PCs concept has become (seemingly) next to impossible. Just look at all the bards using Ymphian Jungle Hymn, which is far and away the easiest to find ingame currently.

A way to resolve this, and allow PCs to acquire those songs that truly do fit their concept, would be to have a variety of backgrounds, chosen when the bard reaches a certain level. The advantages of such a background would be minimal, or perhaps even non-existent stat-wise. However, what the bard would get is a single song (or maybe two in the case of those songs that are very weak) to add to their songbook.

This would allow bards to own at least one song that falls in line with their concept, instead of the horde of Hymn-hummers that currently exists.
