Not doable without haks, and the hak'd versions are bugged and won't accept enchants or feats IIRC.

There actually were wooden shields used in Japan, small sized generally. But for asian flair I suggest Shou Lung which is Golden Age Fantasy China, who have heavy armor and shields and weapons comperable to what exists in game/western faerun culture already.
