Well, if you know that you are a terrible player, than maybe you just found a key to your problem?
I am a terrible player too, and I don't really know what to do when  being alone, and I don't know much about places to go and quests to  take, so I am not a good leader for the questing.

BUT, yesterday I had a kick in my butt, had really fun time playing,  doing "mercenary stuff", and later having a really pleasant time, thanks  to my friend, that shown me this server.
I died, I lost my long awaited level (it was a bit smashing), I was  robbed by some from almost all  my possession (I do hope you will choke on these potions), but I had  fun, so I don't mind so much (besides loosing my money).

So, to top it up, if you really don't know what to do, keep an watchful  eye on the messages people send, don't waste occasions for partying,  even if you will be sticking back, not to get killed (get yourself some  ranged weapon if you are some king of warrior), people don't mind this,  and perfectly understand that you may be more squishy than others (but  they may still tease you IC).

A) The question you are rising is very accurate, Your character shouldn't do something he don't know anything about.
My question arises, what do your character know? You should have some,  even small, concept about your character and his knowledge.
And remember, that not everyone on the server have to be all-knowing  magicians (magicians tend to know a lot more than others), I am for  example, an simple mercenary, that don't know shit about magic, and had  to bug some mage to help him with this stuff.

B) Not much I could say, besides that I don't play much NWN, and I  missed whole lifespan of my friends character this way, doing nothing. I  envy people, that plays the game a lot more, than I, as I would like to  do all this fun stuff and such.
I just don't have the heart to play it for too long (and I hate NWN and DnD, really).

C) Well, I avoid the problem by not playing the leader types, this is just not for me.
If you want to do something big for your character, have some storyline,  than you should start shaping it outside of the game. Making a points,  that would lead you to something is a very good way to flesh up your  character, as he will be doing something in game.
I made a VERY simple mercenary, that only got name and short description  (which by the way shouldn't be too long, as I, for example, don't  bother reading it all, if it's wall of text) that I plan to expand while  playing (you can do that in game, thanks to some nifty scripts).

D) Try with something simple. For example, character that grinds his teeth from time to time, and irritates people with it, no doubt. A character that have  broken leg and can't run for too long, having to support himself with stick. Person that speaks with some stupid accent, that he made out.
This is that simple, nothing deep and developed, just a thing or two, that makes your character stand out a bit.
The problem is, that I can make hundred of characters now, but when doing my own, that I am going to play, I am blank and it takes some time before I am happy with my decisions.

Have you ever tried to join any faction, DM or not? This way you will almost instantly gather people around you, and in good leaded factions, I am sure you will learn a lot of good stuff.
Maybe you could try contacting someone in game or out of it (by forum post or something), to be his/her apprentice? No shame in that, and may be really fun to play, especially if you both have similar playing time.
I am a warrior, and if you would make one, that would need some training in the art of war, I could take you under my wing. Never tried such thing before, so it may be fun.

There are players, that make posts about concepts they are willing to make, and that they are looking for players to join. Look that up too, as it may lead you to making character you would never thought you would make.

Not really economy, my Idea is to give like 5-6 slots for additional elements that would be something in par to laboratory or armoury stands.
These would be really hard to get, costing tons of gold from vendors, and the best being able to get only from the finest craftsmen. It would improve the prestige of the organization.

To be honest, I just wanted to give the overall concept on how it could be done in-game.

Hmm... and what about a small objects, that are visible only when pressing TAB (highlighting objects), that could be click-able and would start a conversation, that would allow one to set specific items to the hall in this very specific place, items being preferably bought from vendors and/or players (small items with identifiers, used to see if you have an item to place or not)?

From what I know, Sorcerers are more wild type of mages, drawing knowledge from other sources than mages.
They are not scholars, which is represented by the fact, that you use charisma, in place of intellect, for your spellcasting potential.

I think that it is not really needed, and as Relinquish stated, DM can unlock more levels for you if needed (for the price of other skills, but you are not the bookworm type).

BUT, I see that you mentioned something about alchemy, and this bugs me, why would sorcs get bonus for that? For balance?

My question is, as a fan of dnd druids, is this possible to achieve in game by "simply" asking a DM nicely?

If it is, than there is no reason to implemet this feature, as you could call a DM and talk to him why and how you intend to use it.

I may add, that I read somewhere on the forum, that when you restart any previously completed group quest, you should treat it as like you are doing it for the first time.
It really is a good rule.

Some hints I could add:
- nights are more dangerous, than days. More and stronger enemies may appear in more unstable areas, like wilderness.
- don't go too far from the city if you don't know the area. Take some companions with you for longer trips, for both safety and fun.
- drink potions. Yes, use them, and a lot of them, barskin and few additional atribute points may save your life.
- try not to buy much from the vendors, many useful items tend to drop from enemies. If you go on a group quest, you will get plenty of them, and at the same time, save money for more roleplaying reasons and to buy useful items from players.
- don't sell to vendors. Try to find other players for trading, this way you will not only earn more money, but help the players (they will buy cheaper).

I do hope this helps.

Truth is, if it glitches the game, maybe it would be better to make it not work on friendly summons for the time it is repaired?
Or just, for the sake of gameplay, change it permanently and move along?
It would be great, if it worked as intended and all, but this is just a computer game, that have so many flaws, compared to pen and paper rpg, that some simplifications are needed, and maybe this is one of these.

It looks perfectly natural to me, that when, for example cleric, turns undead and other foul beings, he would turn EVERY such creature, it is like bursting out his holy powers to everything around, not on specific targets.

Note, that I don't know if the system was changed on EfU, or if it is bugged, and for example, works on beings that it shouldn't be working on (turning planars turns good ones, not only evil for example).

But overall, I think that clerics and paladins should turn undead of every kind around, not only enemies. He banishes the foul energies, that animates the corpses, and there is no difference (from what I know) between skeleton npc and player's skeletal minion.
Undead being an example.

Thank you for your quick replays.

For the description thing... wow... just... wow...
I would NEVER thought about that.

And about Flurry of Blow, i don't use WSAD to move, and I really hope NOT to hew through any fight, not mentioning multiple opponents. Well, a pacifist I am (not mentioning all the generic monsters there are, just waiting to be kicked in the nuts, and liking it, as they are back after a few hours at the previous spot, after the pain ends).

And I am sorry for not posting in appropriate sub-forum. I just noticed there is one, I feel stupid and ashamed now.

EDIT: One quick question i forgot to ask: What exactly do "Secondary" efuss skills do? They are used only for fluff, for calculating other efuss skills or used as normal skills (for example efuss secondary heal at level 4 counts as having heal skill at level 4)?
I know there is something on it somewhere on the forum, but I did not understood it clearly.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am having a pleasant time playing, and am feeling a bit less lost after every hour of playing.

I am very pleased, that this server is somehow friendly to new players, and doesn't throw me at the deep water. Everything important (even more, as I read the forums before making my first character), so far, was explained somewhere in the game.

QuoteOtherwise feel free to ask right here for whatever you need.
Well, I will use this privilege, and ask a few questions now, as I didn't find anything on them yet:

1. Is it possible to create custom armor after the "character creation" at the beginning, somewhere in the actual game world? I screwed it, and somehow, by few bad click, made leather armor that had the generic look, and the second clothing was not free, and I couldn't afford it (had around 7gp left after buying starting equipment).
2. Is it possible to make "Flurry of Blows" not end after some time or after battle? It would GREATLY improve my gameplay, to be honest.
3. Is there any way to check my character's description? I would like to know, so in case I would like to change something by with the server's custom chat commands, I could see how exactly I wrote something.

Thank you for every feedback provided.

Portrait of my newly created (and first) character.

There is no "L" sized image, as from what I know, it is used only for character creation, and is not shown in any other place (making it completely useless addition, that takes more space than other images combined, that makes the portrait).

Hello, I was born in Poland, and my name is...

... and seriously, I do hope to have, and provide, decent amount of fun when roleplaying.

I am new to server, and could say, that am new to whole concept of NWN persistent world (tried other one, but it was so hardcore and bugged, that it was unplayable for me, especially as a new player).
I am, at the moment, trying to understand every tiny bit of mechanic (that applies to my character, so no bugging with spellcasting etc yet) and every chat command there is.

I hope you won't kill me in my first week of playing :)

PS: I will take additional advantage of the situation, and provide you with link to my character's portrait. Don't let yourselves be fooled, it's virused. http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums/showpost.php?p=239631&postcount=220
