There is already a quest on EfU that has random spawns integrated. Creating and changing spawns through entire quests, areas, etc. is more complicated and harder to do than just snapping your fingers.

As for secret areas, there is a system of random areas already in-game, which encourages exploration! Try it out, it's really fun.

Or simply skip those small experiments. Instead of say, casting a negative energy ray on a dead rat, go kill this or that undead to collect some of its essence/ectoplasm/knuckle/what have you, even if no such item drops; of course, always bring people along to make things more interesting.

If you are a golemcrafter or a necromancer, you would already know the effect or result of those small experiments, you don't need to proceed to repeat them. What you want is to do something bigger, that is where you need a DM.
