I am sort of with caddies, and sort of with Snoteye on this one.

Asking the masses about technical and mostly behind the scenes (Would anyone really notice the difference?) issues is sort of pointless as the majority of them barely know their way around a computer (This goes for more than a couple DMs as well!)

Really, there is always the effectiveness vs efficiency arguement, and TBH NWN's overall sloppy design merits things to be as efficent as possible. A couple sounds here and there won't be missed, but I do think there are many other ways (See incoming topic in 159) we could cut down bloat and work on upping efficiency.

I usually just send an IG DM tell when I see someone rocking faces.

"Hey, this person is doing some amazing RP, maybe come throw some XP their way if you have a minute."

Or I do so on IRC.

What's hard about that?

You just need to get closer to the bed. Like, really close.

And you need to be level 3 or lower.

Unless changed for EFU, the spell 'light' does not affect stealth in vanilla NWN, nor does continual flame.

Spot modifiers in vanilla nwn are as follows :
  • +10 DC if the spotter is in combat.
  • +5 DC if the target is standing still.
  • -5 DC if the spotter is standing still.
  • Size modifiers (tiny: +8, small: +4, medium: 0, large: -4, huge: -8).
  • Area spot check modifiers.
  • +5 DC for stealthed players (only), if they are in the back arc.
  • +5 DC at night if the spotter does not have a light (or darkvision).
  • -10 DC at night if the target has a light on them.
Listen :
  • +10 DC if the listener is in combat.
  • +5 DC if the target is standing still.
  • -5 DC if the listener is standing still.
  • +1 DC for every 3 meters between listener and target.
  • Size modifiers (tiny: +8, small: +4, medium: 0, large: -4, huge: -8).
  • +5 DC for every 40cm of object (including creatures) between listener and target in outdoor areas.
  • +2 DC in indoor areas if the line of sight is blocked and the target is within 4 tiles.
  • Area listen check modifiers.
Also, a bit more on topic : Changing the light color is a ridiculously easy change. (Probably ridiculously low priority though.)

In the mighty words of exilestrife and scottyb :

Quote from: ScottyB;104769We don't do half-assed jobs here.

Why suggest cheap workarounds when they don't actually solve anything? If they're going to do anything about these summons, they're almost def going to take the time to do it right, lest they face the fury of the nerds responsible for server upkeep.

I don't think you grasp the scope of why they suck so much.

Every other summon theme uses a blueprint resref, so there is a specific template for each level of summon for each other theme.

The elementals only have one template for the level one, then they are leveled up by a script, which (apparently?) nobody has bothered to make any levelup packages for (WTH, SCOTTYB), which is pretty much like hitting the 'recommended' button when you level up.

Solutions being :

Someone takes the time to make a bunch of package .2das and change the summon script to reflect these 2das.

Someone makes a blueprint for each level of summon for each of these 4 themes.

Both of these solutions are really tedious and take a lot of time, and if you haven't noticed the laziness of most of the DMs who have the know-how/ability to do so... I am willing to bet this doesn't happen anytime in the next year.

There are custom shapes for polymorph, Yalta.

And I am pretty sure this is an oversight, strife! I vaguely remember touching the subject with johannes once!

I beg to differ, ebok! This is a case of run in, and either have blur or just break line of sight before they finish casting, IMO. I have made it a point with my last couple PCs to just completely show up metagamers by walking over traps they somehow avoid, charging into rooms where they for some reason stop and decide they randomly need to rebuff, etc. All my PCs who have done this have ended up wealthier than most of the people they quest with, so IMO if people want to metagame you only hurt yourself and miss out on rewards TBH.

I tried to get my previous woman into it, explaining the concept breifly and told her to read the forums to get a bit more info.

Her response "Wow, the people you play with are assholes, how is this fun?"

My quest after that became to explain the subtleties of internet trolling to her. It ended badly, and seven people died.

Lol. If the people above read this :

QuoteThe elemental ones are difficult to adjust because actually they work differently, in that a base form is just "leveled up" I believe rather than there being a unique blueprint for each level/kind.

What howl is saying is that the elementals were implemented via hackjob shortcut, using a levelup function rather than making separate blueprints like most of the other custom summons are.  What this means is they have no control over what feats the summon will have when it takes the levels (Unless they make custom package.2das and tweak the levelupfunction to go off them, which might work but I'm not sure, but would also be about the same amount of work as making blueprints for each level.) So changing these summons would require at some point a minor rework of how the summoning system is implemented to either use blueprints for the elementals or to take the new 2das into account.

Given the amount of tedious and repetitively mindless work involved and knowing how much our friendly DMs like the prospect of such - this prob is not likely to happen any time soon. :(

Bump.

To reiterate so people don't need to look on the previous page :

The problem with this summon is that is is laughably weak, and literally any level 1 summon could likely kill it in a 1v1 fight.

It has decent damage, but no creature weapon/creature weapon proficiency so that every time it attacks it provokes an AoO.  It has 10 AC from levels 1-7 and 12 AC at 8+. On top of that, it uses power attack so it rarely ever hits, so usually all this summon ends up doing is missing for about three rounds before the AoO's kill it.

Adding the creature weapon prof and raising the AC to 16 for 1-7 and 18 or 20 for  level 8+, and removing the power attack from this summon would be amazing towards making it actually useful.

From what I'm told, other death domains could definately use a boost as well.
