I had this problem once and it turned out that my internet provider had to spesifically open the port necessary to log on to Gamespy and see games.

I think the reason that people seem so adamant in believing that there are no DM-faction conflict is because they do not reach the public as most heated debates are done in private or through forum interaction. There are, of course, valid reasons for this, but perhaps more can be done by players to express their opinions and their dislike/appriciation for other factions/policies/and so on. (Almost makes one miss that meddling and scrutinizing “journalist”)

Certainly a lot more can be done to draw other players into the faction’s goals and gripes, and it’s something I intend to work hard on. I personally feel that I have to defend the Order somewhat, because the Order’s members has many times expressed their intentions through fliers and speeches, which seems to me the best way to reach the majority of the player population. I do however, always appriciate advice on how to better reach the players.

As for politics and Courts, as it has been stated before, all it takes for a player to gain a position at the Court is to be the leader of a somewhat influential banner, (correct me if I’m wrong). Albeit I’m not familiar with the banner system, or claiming lands, it seems to be a very cool aspect of the server that is somewhat ignored.
It should also be noted that this is a time of summer “lull”, as people are occupied with finals, wrapping out their current school year and so on. I’ve no doubt that things will change when both DMs and players get more time on their hands.

I had been waiting for a chance to use that line.

While I agree that the faction is politically weak, this is certainly something that can be corrected IG. The good and bad sides of this can be discussed IG and OOCly, as it often was with the Society of the Ordered Mind which was politically neutral all through its existence and never really managed to influence the political arena much. I see it as an IG obstacle rather than an OOC one and could readily be worked on with more political oriented concepts.

That being said, I personally feel that one of the Order’s main obstacle is finding its “niche”, as it now seems to be stuck somewhere between obscure religious faction, with a somewhat hidden agenda, and a military meant to protect the Colony but does not seem to have the authority to do so. Again this can be contributed to IG factors, but I see how this can make the “door way”, seem rather narrow. On the other hand, the faction does have “inter-faction conflict” that opens up the possibility for a wide-range of concepts, none which need to be particularly military inclined. I fear my explanation is limited due to fear of “spoilers”, but I can promise that while it may seem somewhat similar on the surface, the Order is dynamic and filled with opposing ideas and ideologies. The PCs does not need to be especially religious or devote, though the religious factor is certainly meant to tailor the Order towards the “Crusade” “Knights Templar”-aspects.

Just my 2 cents.

They do tend to put a damper on people's adventuring and exploration spirit. Maybe one could spawn in a group of lesser Mist Ogres, instead of three of them spawning together.

I would, personally, like a warning if a quest/event is going to be Perma Death, not because I don't like difficult quests, but because sometimes you might have a story/plot you wish to finish.

I have heard players expressing a dislike against spices, or getting upset when they run into some unexpected difficulties. I have also meet new players who seem disheartened when facing odds that quickly kill their PC, even if they are in a high-level party. This may simple be because they are not "good" with the game mechanics, i.e knowing which potion to use when or how to macro commands, which may make a "difficult spice"  become overwhelming.

I would perhaps take into consideration how much time the player has spent online before throwing a difficult spawn at him.

Just a thought, but if we are going in the medieval direction, it would be interesting to see a more religious tone to the law-enforcement.  There seems to be plenty of deities, both good and evil, in whose name one can “stomp out crime”(the Inquisition comes to mind). Churches do not seem to have much authority in this setting, and it could be fun to see them have more power.  I don’t think a religious overtone would put any limits to what classes could join the law-enforcement team either, though priests would probably become more powerful.

Learning curve or not, I get the feeling that people don't want to leave the Ziggurat at all now and it takes the fun out of exploring :(

Ofcourse, it's very important to be sober when you take an exam. Many worthwhile careers in street-cleansing, fruit-picking and subway-guitair playing industries have founded on a lack of understanding this simple fact.

Life wraps up for the final "original" Numinous Order PC. It's been alot of fun, and thanks to all the DMs and PCs that were involved one way or another. I'd list them all, but it's a very long list!

Unfortunatly I don't have a lot of screenshots, but here's an extract from the life of a Footman.

The Animal Companion. (Awwww)

At the Forward Camp. (Sewell could never quite get over the ugly helmets)

Hanging out with the other girls (And a rat?)

Gearing up for the final battle.

Dealing with politics. (If you can't read it, it's a dartboard with a picture of Proverson)

Doing Crusade stuff.

Handling a plague. (By locking up all the sick people in one building and killing those who tried to escape)

Showing off her new rank.

Meeting a giant, and greeting it Kassarack's style.

Crusading in the Bogs.

Meeting one of Vladislask' old friends.

Exploring the island.

Bug Reports / Spawn point error
March 27, 2009, 08:38:24 PM
After setting my spawnpoint to Gaseric's camp, I spawned in Island-Ruins-Flodded ruins, in a locked temple room.
