Title: Special items
Post by: Letsplayforfun on July 04, 2015, 12:19:28 PM
I'm in a scripting mood and enjoying trying to script cool, funny, dumb, items, so if you've any ideas post them here. Obviously nothing OP will be implemented andI probably won't be able to do 10% of what you suggest, but at least it'll give me ideas. Don't be scared to suggest stuff that would fit your current pc either. Suggest while the mood lasts!

How about a player tool that can be used to draw chalk outlines or marks on open rock?  It could be used to create placeables which read something like "An arrow points to the northeast" or something to that effect.  If clicked, a dialogue window comes up to ignore it or "wipe away the chalk" or "scratch out the mark".  This could be used by people for tricks and shenanigans, or to let people following behind where to go.

It should also state that it should not be used in "city" areas and should not be spammed.

Whittling/Wood-carving knife: No damage dagger that can be used on specific items- wooden blocks, or some slab of wood that can be purchased from the zurkhworker in the market hall, maybe. Using the knife on the wood will change it into one of many things at random- a religious idol, an animal, a figure, etc. The number of ranks in EFUSS woodcarving will affect how well-done the carving actually looks. If it's a shoddy job, the knife can be used one more time on the sculpture to try and refine it- if the check fails then you're left with an incomprehensible piece of wood that may still be 'art' to somebody.

To be found in Lowerdark quests -

Strange Aberrant Visor: This disturbingly organic helmet is squishy and pliable at one's touch. A sheet of tinted glass comprises the faceplate, and you can see hints of tantalizing illusory movement dancing about the other side... you would see it better if you wore the helmet.

Effects: upon wearing, make a DC 15 will save to immediately remove. Failure causes the PC to suffer from the spell Confusion. They will violently lash out at others and attempt to flee in the direction of Ysinode unless subdued or killed. Subdual allows for the removal of this enthrallment device. Wearing increases Constitution by +2 as well as a +5 to Discipline. Decreases Wisdom by -2, Will saves by -3.

Svirfneblin "Party poppers" - one use item for events such as the games, weddings, electoral results etc. Use produces a noise or VFX, possibly an emote.

Fillable/throwable jars - jars that can be used on tiny spider eggs, hellwasp larva and rockworm eggs, which then become throwable and spawn "baby hellwasp swarm", "tiny spiders swarm" or " bunch of worms" (hostile to all). Place nests where appropriate/random and you must do battle with the brooding spider/'s or hive of wasps/queen, protective rock worms, before searching and finding the eggs/larva.

Worminger "Worm Charmer kit" Weird "charms" for attracting worms in the worm pits, sold in Starag's rest. Some work, some don't.... Worm charms.

(Not exactly an item..) Tiny markings - Ranger only interaction placeables. (non-ranger receive a "Nothing to see here" message) Placed here and there, zurkwood, shroomstalk etc, these tiny marking indicate to other rangers (when interacted with) that a particular danger is present here or that a certain something lives/grows here. Also a non-permanent storage area with only 2 slots, for say, food and a knife, medical herbs and antidote or perhaps leave a written note for the next ranger. When interacting you can change or add to the markings, via dialogue, to indicate a new danger/life form or your own presence.

Svirfneblin voice repeater - target player/creature has it's next words recorded by the device and then when used on "self only" Emotes "[Spoken in the voice of X] "dialogue".

Svirfneblin finger trap - ring with "self only" property which binds your fingers together, causing 100% spell failure and being unable to hold anything. Other property opens Dialogue with options (or does it randomly) to attempt to remove it via an Int, wis or dex save and "free yourself" or receive a "you are too stupid/clumsy to free yourself" type message, perhaps a str check too which gives a "this doesnt seem to be working" type message, unless you have above a certain strength score and then you are damaged 1d4 and receive a "you dislocate a finger" message and perhaps 5% spell failure/-dex score, for x rounds/turns/hours.

Wireless Sending Device:

Found in the machine, these wireless devices allow the holder to send one message via the Sanctuary sending system from anywhere they wish. Alas when used they break apart and cannot be reused.

Electrical Baton - mace base item device that uses electricity to subdue its target through nonlethal means.  Powered by baublium or potions of the third circle or greater.

A rusted talking sword. An ornate decorative longsword with penalties to damage, but it talks. It's actually pretty friendly. It will keep you company on lonely nights. It's absolutely terrible in battle, but refuses to admit so, and gets sullen if you don't use it to fight. Mostly done through dialogue trees and battle cry scripts, with the option for a DM to take possession when needed.

A set of shark jaws that has a special power allowing you to summon your very own personal flying shark bodyguard! This shark has a Shield spell visual around it which is to be a bubble of water that it floats within.

"Emergency Escape Pod"  -- A strange capsule without any markings. When opened a horde of illusionary clowns pop out and go on a rampage! Maybe there can be a random chance for other things in there too.

I really like what was done on the Pirate Kobold quest where the loot seemed to have random generated +skill stats. I would really love to see this if possible on any/all quests if this is possible - as long as its within keeping with said item. I really enjoy these small variations on skills, sometimes you will find something that's perhaps better then average for your PC or you might find something that pants.

More Exotic wandering merchants or exploreables with merchants. Even with just fun items. For example you could have some bat shit crazy wizard selling potions of unpredictability / maybe 1 Chaos potion in inventory / Harp of pandemonium etc etc.. themed merchants are the best.

Light gems! Similar to the gems you can socket into equipment to make it glow various colors, except these are personal! Break the gem and cause yourself to glow that gems color, like a certain mushrooms effect. Maybe also unstable light gems which are thrown for the paint bomb effect.

Archaeology checks at distant and obscure locations, like the one that was in Nebezzdos. Little thematic things. Perhaps one deep in the Arena of the machine or abandoned baublium mine, one in the Plains of Dread or even rarer more dangerous places in the lowerdark... one in the shroomstalk or at Shaggaland. One underwater in the hidden pond. More fossils in the mudmen quest. Little things thematic to certain mysterious places that might give clues to archaeologists trying to learn more about these locales and their secret pasts.

Glammer Mirror.   You look into it, but the reflection that stares back is not you! Your appearance changes to that of a random monster for a period of time. Maybe until rest or whatever is convenient. Could be a goblin, could be a dryad, could be a minotaur. Who knows! No ability adjustments or anything, just appearance. A glammer!

Wand of Mirror Image ~ though the exact spell on this wand has been lost to time, there exists a few charges remaining in this ancient device.

Creates a illusory copy of your character which can be used to distract or trick a foe.

How about a throwable item just called "BEES!?" in all caps with the punctuation which is a jar when throw releases a low level version of the insect summon spawn.

Because hey throwing a jar of bees is a great distraction.

QuoteIllusory Decoy

Use on yourself, around five copies of yourself appear around you that run in random directions, some appearing to drink potions or flee.

QuoteMalleable Lightstone (could be altered into something else if this doesn't fit the RP of what they are)

Use on yourself and it will record the next 1-3 things you send through your chat bar and make into a lightstone using your character's current avatar as the image with the name of "Unknown Male/Female Race" as the name.

QuoteEar Trumpent

Use on yourself and temporarily allows you to hear all text whispered within a certain radius.

QuoteDecoder Rings (could use a better name)

Comes in pairs of two rings. Use the ring and a sending-like dialogue opens up. After sending the text it will be 'sent' to the other ring as a sending only they can read. All sendings sent or received from one ring to the other ared store in a dialogue option (which can be heard in the actual voice+name of those sending them so they are not without risk) menu in the ring accessible via a unique use type of thing. When receiving or sending a message in such a fashion a very visible/audible vfx is displayed making it impossible to send messages or receive them discreetly.

QuoteFaerie Fire Dust

Throw at a target/area. All targets hit by it will be rendered visible at all times despite stealth/invisibility/darkness for a period of time. (or just make sparks of revelation do this)

QuoteStatic Charges

Use on self, anytime you are stuck by a melee attack both you and the target are hit by the effects of geedlees. Only lasts a certain specific number of hits.

QuoteExplosive Impact Oil

Whenever you are stuck in melee a low damage fireball explodes around you and anyone that fails a reflex save has a persisting combust effect applied to them (ending on another reflex save as usual).

Sound decoy - when used it sounds as though someone is buffing.  Haste, clarity, barkskin, endurance, bulls, pfa, shield, divine favor.

Painful Tacks ~ when stepped on these tacks cause you to cry out in pain. Walking in these caltrops cause a temporary move silently penalty on failed reflex save.

Robe of Rot - This magical robe appears to be highly enchanted, but its wearer appears to slowly rot away. The longer the robe is worn the more it consumes the person in question, and it is not so easily removed...

Not sure on the buffs it would offer, but for every IG Hour the robe would "Drain" 1 point of: Strength, Dexterity and Endurance. The Robe is also cursed, so only a Remove Curse would allow the user to take it off. The effects of the Rot can be removed by using a restoration spell (in essence, fighting back the rot), but even when a character is restored he would once again begin to rot. If the character is killed by the robe (Strength, Dexterity or Endurance fully drained) they are transformed into an Abomination (NPC that is hostile to everything around them).

Similar to above.

Robe of the Stars - A robe that appears to be alien in appearance. While it hold many secrets can its user control it and not lose his sanity?

Either for a Sorcerer or Wizard, the Robe has a number of properties that can be activated (not sure what they could be). However, each time they are activated the user is exposed to the alien magic of the stars and must take a will save. If it is failed the user permanently loses one point of Wisdom, and if the character "dies" (loses all of his Wisdom) because of the robe he turns into a Raving Madman, hostile to all.

Similar to the robe idea:

An Ancient, Pallid Tome - 1/day Identify, single use (or charges?) of legend lore. Using the book forces a save vs will. If failed, the character temporarily loses a good bit of wisdom. If able, make it have the properties of a drug where you can get addicted to using it.

Also it's bound in human skin but that should go without saying!

Because human skin is not aberrant, so RALLICK DESS RITUALIST is okay with it. ;)
