We had a fun debate in IRC last night about factions and how some people are quite content not to get involved in them, and how on EFU that's okay because we can make our fun however we please. It got me sharing though about my dream concept and it got me wondering so I thought I'd ask: EFU, what's your dream concept?
For those who don't know I am often a villain on EFU Just because I feel it takes a certain level of proactivity and excitement-causing to be a villain. Without a DM you can give PCs a fun show and give them something to worry about, rally against, etc.
Ironically enough before NWN I never cared much for playing the villain in roleplaying games. To me my favorite was the CN anti-hero who speaks truth to power and does his own thing. Coming from my roots in Vampire: The MAsquerade and it's short lived PC game with an open world RP community I loved the idea of the Brujah (anarchists/philosophers) and it shaped a lot of my early RP concepts.
To me my dream EFU concept is the following:
I would love, beyond love- cherish, the opportunity to play the primary tavern owner of the main hub of the server's criminal aspect. In the EFU:A Docks I loved our efforts to get the wastrel created and jumped all over it, and my first EFU:A prominent PC was a Gobsquat crime consultant. In EFU:1 the Wench's Clench. IN EFU:M got involved with the Oldstone Shope and even my own independant tavernQuoteA CN, apathetic character who doesn't overly care if bandits, muggers, etc come to his seedy dive tavern. It would have only a handful of rules about fighting and conduct and respect. It would be a pursuit of letting criminals in EFU flourish in a safe and productive environment where an individual could get some supplies, meet some buddies for a job, but otherwise unwind.
To me the best RP of crime is the build up. The planning. The finding the right guy. the "We're putting the band back together" to call in old favors and dirty secrets to get a crew together for a job. The opening coffee scene from Reservoir dogs. The unique squad and putting it together in "The Great Escape". etc.
My PC would be a CN Thug-type rogue or a grizzled Fighter with something like the Cuththroat or sellsword perk. He would have bene in his past many things to many people- a leg breaker, a dock worker enforcing smuggling, maybe even at one time a 'Boss".
In his old age he's become more apathetic and his pursuit is less of a crime syndicate and more of just an existence in which he can do as he please without much concern for the world.
Given his connections to crime he'd have good friends to stop him if anyone comes causing trouble at his tavern. He'd be like the Guidance Counselor at Crime University. They buy some beers, they chat some jobs, they ask some advice, the tavern gets a cut.
However to keep face and appearances when things get too rowdy he'd assist the law enforcement in psuedo harper-style with a network of criminal snitches telling him when someone gets too big for their britches. After all a professional criminal has decorum a mad cultist or cyricist doesn't have.
The job, a few crime rules, proliferation of crime, the social aspect of criminals struggling to build a new gang, a new syndicate, a new business.
It'd just be awesome. Intellectual crime with a degree of brutality. Bringing a modicum of law to the crime world while bringing some struggle to the law world. The perfect balance of EFU conflict in my opinion.
I'd love to play a cat burglar who breaks into people's homes and makes off with their valuables. The setting and module doesn't seem to quite support that, though, and I really detest PVPing to get at someone's belongings. Would rather just sneak it away from them outta sight.
I think you should just go for it someday, RWG! You might be surprised how much success you could find in that concept!
My own dream concept is -obviously- a fast-talking criminal girl who works for everyone simultaneously. Plus baggy pants. Elf or human. Rogue or wizard. Someday I'll be a half-elf rogue/wizard and the server will tremble at my mighty build!
My dream concept already has been played and continues to exist as a npc in the Stewards of the Ark faction :) Two of them actually, assuming that The Veneroida graces us with his presence once more. I haven't quite come up with a new dream concept to be the next trophy but I think it involves a wereshark.
Monk of Auppenseur. Eventually I learn to kill people with Mind Bullets.
Oh my.. Always wanted to be one a leader of one of the lower gangs.. Hardcore bandit, and really something totally different than my usual tendacy to play druids, clerics, and sorcerers/wizards, who would drive lower into a frenzy of war over control, and take that chaos and aim it at upper folk to start his own reign of terror.
If not that, I'd want a Ghaunadauran (Real Shocker Right?) Cleric (Yep, Still Not Surprised) Who would drive their cult openly into the sewers to cause daily havok beyond throwing threats, and mugging folks in the sewers, really trying to dominate lower as their own through the use of terror, violence, but.. Still using their brain not to die (My hardest struggle)
Lastly, A necromancer who is not hidden about his art at all, yet tries to deceive others into believing his art is a good thing, succeeds in that area at times, and eventually is praised as hero, yet a deep cruel villain beneath the surface, and after he becomes a hero, start him on a downward slope to create utter chaos and reveal the truth. (Actually giving that one a shot now)
Svirfneblin tech Iron man guy. Rich engineer, developer of his own "suits", evolving to a stage when he would ride some sort of mecha, fighting the dread on special skirmishes.
Sadist Sharran who /thinks/ she hears the voice of her Goddess in her head. Demanding tributes and praise to her goddess in disguise, else threatening to attack those who don't.
A cleric of Mystryl with the power to make dead magic zones and wild magic zones. Forcing the Spellguard to bow to my divine might and all other wizard to give praise to the Goddess or face magical chaotic wrath.
CN Batman'esque Paladin who whispers "I am the Night" before smiting evil.
Down-and-out substance abusing politician with a heart of gold.
My dream concept would be a highly secretive spy/assassin type likely a mix between two of my old pcs Allius Dorne and Alfred Thenson. Basically it would be Allius Dorne's personality and cunning with Thenson's martial proficiency.
Group of orogs slavers.
I think I've already played them. I had three, really, and none of them are my most successful characters by a long shot. My dream characters tie people together towards big, often ludicrous goals and awesome stories develop from it.
One was Dugbone. Good grief, that character was insanely fun to play. Dugbone was a goblin barbarian/cleric that worked for the Pissing Crone, doing a little bit of everything to try and drag in business. He would fluctuate from business-goblin to warchief on a dime. His accomplishments were fairly modest, but his sheer survivability was mind boggling. He was killed in PvP time and time again, but by having the right friends was resurrected at least 3 times. And he was never killed by the same person twice...
I would revisit the general concept of Lower unification with Lucius Westmore a year(ish) later, an awesome character of no significance. Probably because nobody was playing Lowers characters... such a shame. H/t to wcsherry for trying to help get things moving.
Lastly, Patrice Vermand. I had a specific yet dynamic character style in mind, and it's a good thing I did because his entire PC life was just an absolute whirlwind. I like playing characters that are very unlike who I am as a person, but Patrice was the first time I decided to use a lot of different aspects of my own life experiences and personality to create a character. That I never finished his story along with the rest of his companions is one of my greatest disappointments from playing EFU. And there was one major but secret goal that I pursued relentlessly with the PC that I hope to share one day, as it's pretty impressive just how deep it ran.
So yea. I love playing broad-interest support characters with insane goals that commits to creating broad coalitions to achieve every member's goals.
Either a planar sailing tiefling merchant addicted to all awful habits.
Or a concept where dms and players don't react to me differently because of how I act on irc.
Personally? I've always wanted to play a Were-cat that almost no one knows is a were-cat, rising to power in /any/ of the factions and eliminating / turning her foes ( who would practically be the only non-dm's to IC'ly know what she was) and pretty much being just really fun over all. Will I ever get around to making the damn app? Probably not, but that's what I want to do.
My chief interests in EFU are religion and nature, but I don't think in small, contained concepts so much as I do in incredibly large, likely unobtainable goals. So I would love to be able to capture a priestly concept that managed to engage people OOCly and IC enough for mass conversions that resulted in a proactive player group that not only influenced the server, but was respected by it. Ideally, make such an impact that I could pester a DM to let us push into a deity's plane to help against Dendar and receive divine aid in the Underdark for it. I had planned to relevel Ksenia as a cleric the moment she died and lost level 9, because some of her Selunite antics were probably the closest I've ever gotten to my ideal religious character (I wasn't particularly close, but still!)
I'd also love to play a genuinely wise druid that serves as a shaman rather than a wild aggressor, and achieves a higher rank within the Stewards / whatever the local circle might be.
Play your dream concepts!
Aim for the moon, so if you miss you land among the stars.
Or something.
That's what I try to do.
My dream concept is to roll a character and play alongside you lot.
Especially you RwG. :)
Being god sended to Sanctuary to observe if mankind is worth of saving!
A terrifying cult leader seeking apotheosis.
HH werewolf inside sanctuary. Playing in style of Jack the Reaper!
Being allowed to play batman in the form of a werebat as a LG paladin crusader against evil.
Matterhiems' paladin son!
I want to be a VP minion just once.
I would have to say that a rather broad concept I would wish to achieve, at some point, is to become an "Archmage", or at least a sufficiently powerful Wizard or Sorcerer that I would have something akin to Magnatz's Mound and minions. A force to be reckoned with, and meddling in the affairs of common people, with little danger to myself.
I have somewhat attempted this a few times, but what I have always longed to do was end up some super villain's secret number 2, that just makes shit happen. Whether that be someone that actively engaged in muscle or subterfuge or probably both. When other people actively seem to require my character in the picture is when I have the most fun.
As for more specific narrative concepts, I want to play a faction/gang member in some primary hub of a city that is leading a war effort against another part. Chaos, blood in the streets, shit on fire, etc. Truely a post-apoc might makes right battle that loses some of the civility from civilization. Haven't really seen the chance since mistlocke, I wish I had done this in mistlocke >_> (not lower vs upper, but like upper vs upper)
Quote12:33 : I've always wanted to play a Garagosian who was Chaotic Good
12:33 : And was just like
12:33 : So excited. That every day. There was just more stuff to kill.
12:33 : Like a puppy. Genuinely thrilled to go on another walk, to bury another bone, etc.
12:33 : That sounds like Doomsday.
12:34 : And just have "Walkin' on Sunshine" blasting as he went on a stroll with the adventurers
12:34 : then it would shift to death metal as he began to massacre everything
12:34 : as his party members trembled watching him mouths agape covered in blood
12:34 : screaming silently as no words came out
2:34 : RwG, that sort of PC could be in a children's show.
12:35 : "Good morning children, today we will learn how to remove your enemy's head as a trophy!"
12:35 : Todays letter is V
12:36 : For Violence
It should surprise no one that I have always wanted to play a Spellguard field agent, genuinely terrifying or respected, and probably never will.
I don't have the measured, calculated prudence for the job. My nature is very brash—predisposed to unbelievably impulsive and wild decisions—and even in otherwise composed characters that nature begins to emerge when I get caught up in the excitement of my stories.
I have four.
One of them, I am playing right now :) And I want to keep it mysterious, so I won't go public with the ultimate goals or the quirks of personality that provide the motivations for what I have been told again and again is a "very fickle" character. (I never thought he was!)
Secondly, I would LOVE to bring a necromancer to such prominence that he/she manages to found a new faction out in the UD - similar to the Mound of Magnatz. The goal is to find a place the druids don't dare go too far into/don't visit often, acquire an artifact with the power to passively awaken otherwise mindless undead within a mile's radius or so, and then just start churning out skeletons and zombies. I'll be using this base to consolidate necromancer power in general, while competing with other UD residents for trade as I establish my own goods and fashion caravans to run them.
I also intend to enlist the support of the Society, as I'll most likely end up founding the base in a segment of the LD, and there'll be a lot of fending-off-the-aberrant involved. We can finally have a place to dump all the Withered folks Dess will eventually convince to sign on, too. ;)
Third,
Very simply, I want to craft a roots-and-vines druid who systematically dismantles the Machine in spite of every effort to obstruct him - and does it by growing massive vine-y plants straight through the machinery and metal.
I want to change the landscape. :D
Fourth,
I want to play an alienist. Forced to survive on his own in a world where literally everything is looking to kill him, he will have great self sufficiency - and I mean to make him a MASTER of alchemy and herbalism.
Unfortunately, I suck at both and can't seem to figure the systems out, so this particular dream is a loooooong way off.
But the ultimate goal would be to become an aberration himself and then transform others into aberrations, too.
We'll follow the theme of psionics or physical mutations, but don't worry, everyone will have a bit of both ;) so we all look like freaks. XD
My dream concept is to have another character like sywyn the muster elf, A kicked back ranger who mainly focuses on sneaking around
A halfling Brandobaris' rogue-not-cleric-priest and bard hybrid who's got uber DEX and CHA scores. Every time he/she attempts to sing at the highest pitch of his/her voice, earth will start to shake and rocks drop off ceilings. He/She considers it an exciting adventure in the form of maintaining the quality of his/her voice, which is also a demonstration of performance skills, while dodging all the falling rocks and quakes. Some hurricane/volcano eruption/tornado/tsunami from the Dark Lake as he/she's trolololol'ing would be great, too. This concept is not designed for immunity against the classic "rock falls, and everyone dies." scenario, as the PC can still be locked between four boulders and still get buried, despite his ability in dodging rock falls.

Wake up sleeper. Dreams can come true!
I have always wanted to play a character that has been seen as ascended, to a greater purpose that is well known by the player base and holds some power that they cannot comprehend. A figure that is not very well liked, rather enigmatic, and who is always thinking completely different from the rest of the server. Who's very actions can change the server, and determine its future.
Well when I have a character concept I can achieve on my own I usually just try it. As an example I play Dmitri because I thought to myself one day "I just really want to be an archer, but like a fighter so I can get rad bonus feats..." So here I am.
Most of my dream concepts that I've yet to try revolve around other people's actions honestly. For the most part I'm here for the ride, not to shake things up.
So my dream concept is:
I want to be a soldier or thug in service of a dictator or dark lord who rises to power and eventually rules part of the server or maybe even almost all of it. And I mean a proper lord who is a player character and gets shit done. Basically I'm saying I never got over Montezzi, man his reign was the golden age in my eyes.
My dream. I am all round optimist so a person I want to portray is one that wants to explore, have fun either in adventures or just on daily basis,
but most of all she wats to help others and bring a light into this world of darkness. Always being herself, never pretending and never scheeming.
I have enough of scheems in RL :p
I want to know how this world will react to such an honest optimist. I have my doubts for the safety of this Char but that´s what she wills :D
Well she is alive just now, so I will see :D
I know this is necromancy, but I thought I would blurt mine out.
My dream concept is currently a Spellguard Agent. Everything about it appeals to me. It has magic, authority, tons of mystery, and cool uniforms. I even like the name - Spellguard. It's so fun to say.
I haven't made a wizard yet of course, and I'm still having a great deal of fun in the auxiliary playing my gravel mouthed dwaren thug. But some day it's something I plan to try and work toward as a character.
Gracken's retainer
In all seriousness, I'm not sure I have a "dream concept". I play what I want when I think of something I really wanna play. If I had to choose something that I hope to roll one day, it will be a half drow, former follower of Elistraee and former slave to the drow. Resentful to the drow and blaming them for everything. Lost the ways his former goddess taught and hope that everyone will suffer as he had. Especially Gracken's PC
I saw this topic and couldn't help adding my own dream concept. (Apologies for adding to the two day necromancy/revival of this topic)
To those who've watched "Merlin" on the Sci-fi channel, you know exactly where im going with this.
A familiar to a prefect, pulling off some crazy feats as a simple creature to save and protect his mage/master behind his back for his or her own good.
A little heart broken that the app failed and i'll never get that chance in the future from how things look, but regardless, the things i had planned were amazing and humorous.
My dream concept was the Crones of Kiaransalee group concept I formed back in EFU:A. A group of zealous drow who came from a fabled underground city that hosted the largest gathering of her worshipers. This concept, and my dreams, were of course crushed by you people before any of our goals could be realized. Thanks. Now I get my revenge with my current theme! :P
My dream concept was this guy. He was so thirstyyyy.
What's been sticking in my mind lately is a miner and prospector character who, through blood, sweat and toil, discovers a new deposit of minerals or ore, builds a mine, and helps usher in a new era of industrial progress for whatever faction or hub they're a part of, whether Upper or Lower. Especially Lower.
