As per the announcement post (http://www.efupw.com/forums/showthread.php?p=378736#post378736), use this thread to ask any questions or post a rough biography of your McGlitt or McBlatt.
Will there be a sign up process, or is anyone allowed to get in on this the day it begins?
Pretty much open to anyone, as my post says!
Wonderful.
Will the stats be modified then after the character is made? As for examplenif I roll one (1) six (6) times I will need my stats to be lowered?
Hanse McBlatt
Your typical uneducated peasant, superstitious of the world and insisting everything around him, from an owl hooting to the purr of a cat is a sign from the gods of disfavor or favor. He refuses to eat meat that was slain by lightning, claiming it was the wrath of talos for the beast had sinned. He lives in absolute terror of the gods, and condemns the McGlitt family as all false heathens and heretics, shouting loudly that they consort with demons and should all be burned at the stake.
class fighter/pitchfork wielder
Sebastian McGlitt
For one reason or another (either justified or hilariously ill-considered, depending on his stats,) Sebastian was considered one of the favorites of the McGlitt family patriarchs. He insists on looking prim and proper at all times and fights with a rapier he is either exceptionally skilled with or has no earthly idea how to use.

Yes. You must level up to 2, and then the stats will be adjusted.
The unpredictability of being forced to accurately portray something that could have really strange stats (good, bad, whatever) is kind of the point of the prelude!
With the bios, bear in mind that things may change according to what the stats end up being. If you roll a 1 for charisma, which would give you 6 charisma, your character would naturally have been a disliked anti-social loner.
I don't think the maths quite work out.. If 1 = 6, how can 10 = 16 it's +9 on one and +10 on the other
You're right, that was a dumb mistake on my part. They'll roll a 1d11 then.
Thanks for noticing!
Ohemul McBlatt
Ohemul, born and raised in the Blatt family home is a great thinker. Or atleast he thinks alot. Be it because he is so stupid that it is very well needed to understand the basic things in life, or that he is an intelligent philosopher? Who knows! He thinks of himself a great man, and maybe he is. Maybe he isn't. He stands with a fierce loyality to his family and always lends a helping hand. Especionally if it is in beating up any of the McGlitts.
Class: Barbarian Grainflail.
Carl 'Charles' McGlitt
Despite the 'fortune' of the family affording them the ability to have their own family doctor, their physician was becoming older fast and they had to face the reality that one day he might be leaving them for good. As a result, they decided to send the young, but growing Carl to the city of Dagger Falls, to become the apprentice of a fancy city doctor in an attempt to get their own private physician, close by and cheap as it would be within the family! The McGlitts spend quite a bit of money sending Carl away to get a fancy education in medicine at the big city, and he appreciated the efforts but..
Carl always wanted a career in SONG! He spent much of his youth adventuring around the farm, singing with the birds and listening to the old folksongs. And when he reached the city he spend every chance he got to try and sneak his way into various drinking establishments or at least stand by the windows to listen to the minstrels song and music.
His efforts and education was wasted, as one day when he was left in his masters workshop he somehow managed to anger his god Tymora which resulted in him being cursed with terrible luck. Leaving him braindead, flearidden, flyattracting, dungsmelling and all around weak and sick. A seemingly terrible end for a young man whom once had a promising future.
Class: Bard.
Dory McBlatt
This teenaged girl has spent more time idling around Goar's Rest and being a general nuisance of herself instead of working the fields or the home as she's supposed to. When the end of the world came about, she became even more useless.
Bryman McBlatt
A very outspoken McBlatt about the McGlitt family. In private, at least. Being spotted speaking out in a public forum with the rival house present would be a very rare sight (depending on charisma score). Otherwise he's a member of the McBlatt family that doesn't contribute to it's overall improvement. At all.
Class: Barbarian
Jerry McGlitt
The quiet, slow, unassuming tavernsweep Half-Orc of the prestigious McGlitt clan, whose mother was tragically raped and left for dead by a Dalelands warband. Little-be-knownst to his contemporaries, 'our touched lad' Jerry's outward slowness disguises a hidden talent...
Donna Gloriana McGlitt
[INDENT]The typical old, strange lady. Hypochondriac and maniac, Old Glory, as most know the senile matron of the McGlitt, always had strange affinities. Cats and other domestic animals would run from Old Glory, who cultivated an inexplicable hatred and suspicion towards the creatures. In the middle of the night, she would wake up in panic, calling her sons, grandsons and great grandsons that someone was spying on her while sleeping in the bedroom. She would complain about the soup being too hot or too cold, or randomly accuse it to be poisoned, screaming that the cook was trying to kill her. It has been like this since she was only a pretty innocent little girl, years having done nothing else other than worsen her manias.
Truth be told, Old Glory is one of the strongest of the family, outliving most of her younger relatives and managing to go on living up to her extraordinary 93 years. Nonetheless, she would not let a single day pass without complaining about a pain or supposed terrible illness that ravaged her poor old body, telling everyone that death was near her bed and waiting for the chance to demand her soul.[/INDENT]
Ostrador McBlatt
One of the odd-balls of the McBlatt family.. Not much in particular is known about this McBlatt. Though it is common knowledge that he will do whatever it takes to earn the approval of the McBlatt family. He is rather unpredictable, and his behavior is most of the time unacceptable by McBlatt and McGlitt alike. Causing a great bit of confusion when conflict arises around the man.
Class: Barb
I'm curious.
What would happen if you were to roll up a character with 18 INT and therefore acquire the resulting crapload of skill points, but then roll a 1 for INT and end up having absolutely no right to them?
The same goes for feats, really (mainly thinking of the INT 13+ feats here like Expertise, for example).
Or rolling a spellcasting class and ending up with a spellcasting ability under the normal minimum of 11.
EDIT: My bad, instructions do specify not to make spellcasters. Other questions stand, though.
Clyde "Bugger" McBlatt
The black sheep of the McBlatt family, and constantly the butt of their jokes. The more outspoken McBlatts love to go on about his laziness, and his lack of taste in his amorous appetites, be it cousins, livestock, or even worse (gasp) McGlitt womanfolk! Bugger's a practiced liar (though he may or may not be any good at it, opinion differs), and he is known to snoop around, gathering dirt that he can repeat at the local watering hole, where he can usually be found drunk out of his mind (he's alcoholic). Bugger's lack of judgement is legendary among both McBlatts and McGlitts - but he might just be playing the fool.
Class: Rogue
Thelonius McGlitt, MIGHTY WIZARD
The mightiest wizard in the village of Goar's Rest is Thelonius McGlitt. Unfortunately, that's not saying much. Most of Thelonius' power is derived from a significant amount of bluster, and even mere cantrips give him trouble, if he can manage them at all. The slightly more idiotic numbers of villagers in Goar's Rest, however, tend to gaze in awe as Thelonius makes handkerchiefs disappear and tosses about masses of glittering dust in an elaborate display of magical ineptitude, and that is quite enough for him.
QuoteWhat would happen if you were to roll up a character with 18 INT and therefore acquire the resulting crapload of skill points, but then roll a 1 for INT and end up having absolutely no right to them?

Just start with relatively balanced stats. No more than 14 int. If you end up with 6 int but have a few extra skill points (or a feat) I don't really mind.
Wynna McBlatt
Wynna McBlatt
A hideously large woman with greasy, unkempt dreadlocks. Determined to provide for the family as is her 'duty,' she has taken up the profession of woodswoman. Tragically, her large frame, stubby arms and absolutely detestable demeanor make her uniquely unqualified for such work. At the very least, she has the constitution of an ox, but much like an ox, absolutely no grace or precision.
Class: Ranger
I have one query, you roll 6d11 to determine stats, do you get to choose which stat is which, or are they done in order, strength then dex then con etc
You don't get to pick, you roll for each stat successively.
In order.
Grayson McBlatt
Grayson is your typical run of the mill farmer. His days begin with tending to the plots and ends with a few too many drinks in his belly. He is a raging alcoholic, and previous drug addict. While his company is welcome among Goar's rest he will always be known as the strange man that falls over tables and yells about his dead grandmother at dinner time.
Class: Fighter
Horas McGlitt
Horas McGlitt
Father knows, I am the future of our House and Clan. After all, who else is more brilliant and favored by father then me? The luxuries our family enjoys…is off the backs of McBlatt, yes…but it is our shrewdness in business and ruthlessness with blades that makes us better than their ignorant numbers! I also know… that purity of the bloodline comes from within! Perhaps in time, one of my sisters may recognize my spender, and compete for my attention and affection? Father would be so proud...
Fighter (Hopefully, Duel wielding large knives (Shortswords), or a sickle if the stats are piss poor)
Rupert McBlatt
A supertitious and deeply conservative old man. Self-proclaimed "warden and patriarch" of the McBlatt tradition and spirit. Scorned by the younger generation of McBlatt for his incessant bickoring and moralizing attitude. Deluded in his belief that he himself is privy to the will of the powers above - and that all ills and misfortune can be attributed to those who did not heed his sermons with severity and diligence.
Class : Fighter
Hughes "Huey" McBlatt
Of all my kin and brethren, I care for the respect and sanctity of the McBlatts. I may not be smart, I may be weak, and I may not be the most handsome of the family, but I will defend our name until the day I die. And those damnable McGlitts will regret the day that they ever crossed paths against a McBlatt, mark my words.
Hughes is a young and learning man, who has arrogantly fought against the McGlitts since the day he could throw a punch. Rugged, dirty, and despicable to all McGlitts, Hughes has been a thorn in their side for years.
Fighter, uses a rust-caked longsword, and whatever works as a shield.
Is it possible to adjust the class after rolling the character's stats? If Floyd McBlatt is a wizard (since I had to pick up a class in the beginning), then I roll int 06. I understand the point is the randomness, but would he ever have become a wizard with int 06 at all (even though he won't be able to cast spells, he'll still be able to use scrolls, wands, have a familiar, etc)
Depending on whether there is enough forewarning, I will actually roll something up for this. This would be a main character, provided it survives and isn't crippled to the point of no return.
Rogue, Male, Jeromy McBlatt, age 17
A gangly youth, who gets into everything and is known for agitating conflict both within and without the household. Whatever he is doing, it's pushing the boundaries. His mother and father were both killed by someone in the McGlitts over some truffle or another. He was taken in by others in the area, but was never quite right by anyone's standards. Just a little Odd.
I'd like his alignment to be random as well, if you'd would be so kind.
Just keep in mind that rolling between a 6 and 16 means every single character is going to be worse off then any regular character, and as such their lives are going to be MUCH harder, possibly even unplayably so. The average for a hero character is 13. The average for worthless peasant X is 10 or 11. A 6 to a 16 means the average will be 11. These rolls would need to be extraordinarily lucky to be half as good as anyone else.
You should have someone double check mass rolling, as I've seen it bug out majorly before. It would be rather odd if everyone always rolled the same number, or if the numbers turned out to be otherwise not random.
Very bad rolls and stats for this inbred pack of mongrels is to be expected. I expect that one or two PCs in the group will have much better than average stats, though, with perhaps one or two major outliers.
It's something different, for sure. I doubt many PCs will last long but it's proving to be amusing so far to do the stat rolls.
Horace McBlatt
"Ha! When -I- was your age, we went to kill orcs-no. They were -Dragons-. Fifty of them at a time! We didn't stay here working on this fields and farms. We made a -difference-. Those damn McGlitts also helped slaying the Dragon- No, they were -Demons-. yes. Hundreds of them. Err but then those McGlitts bastards did what they did. Damn McGlitts!"
Horace is a 90 years old man, just sitting and ranting on his wooden chair to any unfortunate soul who passes by near his house and has to listen to his endless stories about his youth. From all the stories it's actually pretty hard to understand if indeed he did part of those things, or is he just a terrible liar. Most folks, from both families, probably can't wait until he'll kick the bucket, although as he doesn't really have any worthwhile property, except for a collapsing house, none will see any profit for it.
(class: fighter)
Quote from: el groso;378867Arny "Ears" McBlatt
Arny 'Ears' McBlatt has always been a strange kid. Growing and maturing in a much slower rate than the other kids, always bullied and made fun of for being so clumsy and having "fey", 'knife', 'dagger', what-have-you ears. Until today, his paternity is contested, bringing some shame to his also disgraced mother, who is accused of flirting with creatures of the forest. Arny is clumsy to the point of tripping on his own feet, but learned to survive and get some space in the family by being useful somehow with his smarts, fixing things, reading a lot, being quiet and learning how to ignore the ostracism of the others. His mother claims to have gotten pregnant magically by the grace of gods of nature, and says he's been blessed with magical health. He sometimes likes to take long walks in the woods, probably hoping he can meet his father.
Half-elf, rogue.
Tugfork McBlatt
Tugfork is the McBlatt family alcoholic, spending most of his time hidden away in the woods distilling whatever he can put in a giant pot.
Jorn McBlatt
Jorn is a pretty average peasant that can't really control his temper and isn't the smarterest. He likes alcohol, and cows.
Barbarian.
Donnegal McGlitt:
He left the village of Goar's Rest as a young lad of sixteen, seeking fame and fortune in the service of mercenaries. He returned just six years later sporting terrible wounds, including a missing leg, arm and eye. To hear him tell it he fought in a great war, though the location of this heroic conflict seems to change as often as his retellings. In a community full of cheap hooch he turned to spirits to numb the pain of his wounds, and resorted to violence as a means to dull the shame of his inadequacies. Suffering from a hair trigger temper as a result of his head wounds, it is rumoured that he killed his own wife and dog, when they were found savagely beaten outside of town. A bitter veteran with glory days now long past and in his fifties, he is fat, angry and brutal.
Class: Barbarian.
Harvey McBlatt:
Harvey's mother was a sullen and moody thing, and when a passing drifter took her heart and left her with child the village elders and wisefolk all said he'd not last the term. Stricken with grief, she fell into a queer fit, withdrawing from her chores and refusing to speak of the child; some of the kinfolk whisper that she took to the woods often then, when the pale moonlight lit the dales and weird and cruel things cavorted in the night, and locked herself away during the daylight hours, babbling quietly to herself. When the child was born, a sickly and shriveled goatish little thing, she gave him the name "Harvey" and spoke no more.
Frail, perpetually sickly, and possessed of a keen and caustic wit, Harvey has mostly kept to himself for his twenty-odd years... and that suits his kin just fine. Some of the more superstitious residents swear up and down that the boy is strange, weird, unclean, or plain unruly- and even the most skeptical find it hard to explain his midnight sojourns amongst the moonlit dales.
Class: Sorcerer
Morey McBlatt:
Perhaps, just perhaps, one of the more useful McBlatts, Morey was largely left alone in her childhood, as long as she did her( and usually her brothers, sister's, and occasionally her parents) chores. Then Puberty hit, and she become the target for her older brothers... interests. She, being disgusted but having no other options (Because seriously, no one wants to go near the /mcglitts/) she left the house often to escape them.... That's when she finally took a notice of Arny. Taking a interest in him she attempted to follow him through the forest, picking up some skills with hiding and sneaking along the way, or just being extremely lucky not to be caught.
Class: Ranger. Age: 17. Race: Human.
Hyeronimus McGlittOlder, rude and grumpy "black sheep" of the family. He lived half of his life out of the village (but not too far) in his small hut, hunting and working with leathers.
As a young man he quarreled with the head of the family and so he started his insulted life of half hermit, even though he attended reguralry village markets to barter his leather products for other stuff.
Children usually "strayed" near his hut (especially because it was forbidden among the members of McGlitt family), because they were very curious, but they often returned with bitten butts from the dog called Arhus which was as grumpy as his master. Of course, their parents afterwards usually enriched their butts with other bruises.
He is usually titled as "That old fool".

Archibald McGlitt
One of the Younger McGlitt's, Archibald is a man with lust for life and a hatred for those who cannot climb up in the world. While he certainly is not a prime example of man himself.
A short man of 5ft 5, Green eyes and shaggy brown hair. He has always wanted to build something great though what that is when asked he has never known.

Neil McGlitt
A bit of a fixture in the McGlitt clan, Neil has a penchant for all things farming, as long as it requires brawn. Horse is lame, cannot plow the field? Go get Neil, he can pull it! (stats pending of course). Need a plow reworked on the anvil? Go fetch Neil! When not toiling at some labor or another, Neil drinks. Some say, too much, starts his day with a nip, and keeps on going until either the work or the drink puts him to bed.
Age-late 30's
Class-Barbarian
Diana McGlitt
When Judith McGlitt held Diana in her arms for the first-time, after hours of painful labour assisted by her mother and cousins, she knew right away this baby would be her favourite; for starters, Diana didn't look deformed and showed no signs of mental anomalies. She went through childhood without growing hair on her legs, unlike her older sister, so Judith could only assume that her youngest daughter had everything to make it big in Goar's Rest. "If she can make it here, she can make it anywhere" she thought!
Diana grew up to be a shallow, conceited air-head, absorbed in vanity and her dellusions of grandeur. She started working at her uncle's tavern during her teen years, amusing inbreds by flirting with them while pouring their cups. She was socially gifted and enjoyed her role of teasing. Needless to say, her uncle's tavern thrived, as she kept the clientele coming back for more, a genuinelly stupid, naive crowd hoping to get lucky.
The Princess of Goar's Rest had it all to be the star of her pathetic little village, but then the end of the world came, threatening to crush all of her "ambitious" dreams and destroying everything she was working for...

[hide="Hyeronimus McGlitt"]Older, rude and grumpy "black sheep" of the family.
He is usually titled as "That old fool".[/hide]

[hide="Neil McGlitt"]A bit of a fixture in the McGlitt clan, Neil has a penchant for all things farming, as long as it requires brawn.

[hide="Thelonius McGlitt, MIGHTY WIZARD"]The mightiest wizard in the village of Goar's Rest is Thelonius McGlitt. Unfortunately, that's not saying much. Most of Thelonius' power is derived from a significant amount of bluster, and even mere cantrips give him trouble, if he can manage them at all. The slightly more idiotic numbers of villagers in Goar's Rest, however, tend to gaze in awe as Thelonius makes handkerchiefs disappear and tosses about masses of glittering dust in an elaborate display of magical ineptitude, and that is quite enough for him.[/hide]

The luxuries our family enjoys…is off the backs of McBlatt, yes…but it is our shrewdness in business and ruthlessness with blades that makes us better than their ignorant numbers!
[/hide]

[hide="Diana McGlitt"]When Judith McGlitt held Diana in her arms for the first-time, after hours of painful labour assisted by her mother and cousins, she knew right away this baby would be her favourite; for starters, Diana didn't look deformed and showed no signs of mental anomalies.
The Princess of Goar's Rest had it all to be the star of her pathetic little village, but then the end of the world came, threatening to crush all of her "ambitious" dreams and destroying everything she was working for...[/hide]

Hyeronimus has no childern, he is an old bachelor, all others could be alright :)
Updated!
If Neil had any children, he would not know it. To drunk to care. Rest seems accurate, Grannie.
Horas...a very inbred weathered 30 years old. Brother of Sebastian. Father and mother...anything that fits works fine by me.
Thelonius would be offended to be considered directly related to anyone, as he wishes to maintain an air of distance from his McGlitt relatives. Rather, he considers all of them cousins of some sort.
This prelude is concluded. It's worth noting that the mysterious murderer (???) remains alive also. If you decide you want to abandon the PC it might be cool to check in with me and we could arrange a rendezvous with the murderer and bring the PC's ending to a more satisfactory close than pure abandonment.
I hope people had fun.
Never thought I'd have fun RPing trailer trash but I've to say I loved it. It's somewhat liberating to play as a trashy character that has no constraints... feel like I won't be judged because it's not really "my character"... it's just a McGlitt and she's expected to be an airhead who has no clue about societal norms, so I can just portray someone who's decadent without fearing judgement.
I'm really happy that I got to feel once more like one of my characters has direction, "life" so to speak, with so many PCs and NPCs in the character's background, aswell as a set of objectives now. I really hope that at least some of us continue playing these characters, I'd like to keep going with mine, even if my stats make me useless outside of social RP. I'll probably be the only McGlitt left alive, but if the McBlatts keep playing it'll still be interesting. =)
Please don't abandon your characters! It's sort of demoralizing to feel debilitated in combat but I think the roleplay doors that a prelude like this opens for us are far more conducive to having fun than a mechanically viable crushbot kobold-slaying machine. Can roll one anytime, but outlandish villagers deprived of morals and education come around once a year, we should seize the opportunity. =P
Hughes McBlatt here, I'm staying with the PC. Hope to see the rest of the family wandering about and stuff, if not, I'll carry the name with pride.
Enjoyable prelude, Howland, and a unexpected twist at the start. Can't wait to see how this all unfolds now.
Deran Mcblatt here, yeah...sticking with mine as well, rolled decently but I think I picked incredibly wrong class for my rolls lol...
In either case, It was awesome Howland and I also hope more people stick around.
And the mysterious murderer gives the family(s) one of many different directions to go towards.
Thanks for the prelude Howland, it was very enjoyable.
This was a blast.
Hilarious to see a mob of weak peasants flee at the sight of pretty much anything and to beat up McGlitts and leave them on the ground bleeding. I will stick with Bryman until he dies. That will be soon, judging by his stats.
Haha had a blast. Thanks Howland.
I'll try to pop with my McBlatt as well from time to time
[tface="salt"]I am sorely disappointed with the lack of McBlatts and McGlitts that have been logged in recently![/tface]
Old Glory's ghost has been logging now and then. All those nightmares you got since the Nightning are not Dendar's fault but hers.

Someone is murdering McGlitts and McBlatts.
Rumors of a curse swirl in the darkness.
Can you find the killer before the killer finds you?
[tface="salt"]
If you happen to see a McGlitt/McBlatt logged in, why not log in with your own McGlitt/McBlatt and see if s/he is the one trying to murder everyone?
[/tface][/COLOR][/SIZE]
At the moment, I don't have too much time for EFU, and I feel that I cannot fully play my McBlatt until my character Budo has died. I cannot simply leave him. But do not fear. When he does, Ohemul will pester you all.
Can someone do a running total of how many oddballs/black-sheep each family has?
Sorry I haven't been around as much, but Hughes McBlatt isn't quite dead / retired yet. My play times will start picking back up soon.
