Title: Going AFK In the Town Square
Post by: VonCarstein on December 09, 2013, 07:22:17 PM
Can people not do it, especially those pretending to be afk to avoid roleplaying with unsavoury characters.

I think saying people can't go afk is a bit too much, I often go afk in the square to do stuff on the forum and a voice emote will usually get my attention.

What happens if your in the square and work calls or somesuch?

I got assassinated while afk on the ziggerat once (i was in the bathroom). In game, In play. Just remember that. More than one character has gotten killed, kidnapped, or subdued and robbed in this way

If you know you'll be afk for longer than a moment, minute or two, just log out. It's couple second to click exit.

Nobody can exactly prevent you from afk'ing, but you are always liable even if you are not present, if something happens. There's no calling it out afterwards.

It looks nice when you play it... "I am tired"... and you go to rest to the house of heroes... or if you go "for a beer" :)

I think if people go AFK there should be an animation that appears above their head...like the zzzzz icon when the sleep spell is applied or something.

Or let there be a player tool/text command that lets you activate 'afk mode'.  Something to not have us standing there to a character who's player is away,

That would only promote going afk, while afaik the general consensus is to just not do it and log off for a moment.

when I AFK, I announce it or go to a part of the server where I'm not likely to be seen. My suggestion was to accomodate people who chronically idle in the square.

When I go AFK someone subdues me in my faction HQ.

Never again...

When I go afk, I don't even say anything. I either just walk away or say I have other things to attend to, and then disappear into an area where i'm likely to not be attacked. Even then, if i'm afk, i'm not normally away from the keyboard. I'm just updating something on the forum, so I can hear approaching footsteps.

However, if you are actually leaving the keyboard, what I do is hold it in until I can excuse myself, without disrupting/breaking immersion, then log out.

Like Turbo and Paha said, if your character is in game then it's in play.  More than one person has been arrested, assaulted, assassinated, robbed, or kidnapped while away.  It happens and "do overs" aren't granted.

I think all of us have at one point or another gone AFK for an extended period of time in a place we deemed safe.  I just want to highlight what was already said, so that everyone knows the risks.

I have at tendency to roleplay with and around AFK characters.

You have been warned!

Actually, I just do it to pass time until you are no longer AFK. Don't worry, I won't do inappropriate things to your PCs...or will I?
