Title: Arcane Mimic - Unable to Copy from Inflict Potions
Post by: Firemind on August 21, 2013, 10:56:42 PM
Arcane Mimics are unable to copy the spell "Inflict Light Wounds" from potions called "Draught of Inflict Light Wounds".  It gives the error message that you can only copy from creatures and potions.

Draught of Inflict Light Wounds is recognized by the potion homogenizer, but it cannot homogenize it without showing a similar potion (which doesn't exist as far as I know).

This is likely true for other Inflict spells, but I've not yet tested that.

Some of the negative energy potions are not actually the inflicting spells but instead are activated via the special power ability on the negative energy potion. If the potion in question is a special power thing then that's why :( If not, well, now you know for the future that those can't be used for mimicry either.

This is also not really a bug. Also, please do not make potions/wands that are normally craftable (not sure if you're able to). No potions of shield or true strike, for example. And please do not make healing wands as they are bugged to be usable by anyone (if they are spotted they will be taken by a DM).

Arcane Mimic is intended to be a fun perk but it is certainly not intended to be a godly crafting perk.

Howland, all wands crafted by a Mimic are usable by everyone. Should they be usable only by the Arcane spell casters?

The wands thing sounds like a big bug then. In efu:m they used to only be useable by arcane classes. I recall a wand of Divine Power that despite being a divine spell was an arcane only wand.

Right, well, either that needs to get fixed or arcane mimics shouldn't take craft wand (feel free to get a DM to relevel so you can take a different feat).

I just got back to my computer and was going to write a bug report for the wands thing.  I've never crafted wands on EfU before, but I assumed they'd be arcane-only and was surprised when they were not.  I'll be looking for a DM to relevel me soon if it's not fixed.

Just to clarify the answer to my original question, the potions of inflict which are fairly available IG are not intended to be able to be mimic'd?  Might I ask why not, or should I ask that in the suggestions thread?

I'm pretty sure they just cant be due to unique scripting. In this instance, it's a custom potion, not a potion of inflict light. At least, that's my impression after reading this thread.

Ah, no.  It's not a custom potion.  It's effect is Inflict Light Wounds (5) Single Use.  It's a normal potion.

The Inflict potions are all scripted custom for EfU. That scripting is not currently compatible with Arcane Mimicry, alas.

Just discovered inflict potions in game with my mimic. And then this thread.

Sad, sad panda.

Sorry for ressurecting an old thread, but I question.  What is the reason that inflicts are made in such a way to stop this? Is there really a reason for them, besides mimics? I mean, the only other reason I can see a use for Inflict potions is healing undead.. so you've got.. Polymorphed Zombies.. and.. thats about it? Or DM use.

Just disappointed as the only real 'potionable' offensive spell doesn't work, leaving the mimic rather out of luck in any sort of offense via their own means.

Is this something that might be fixed or looked at. Or mimics out of luck? (just wondering if I should keep my potions, "just in case", or are they trash?)
