Title: Marcus Killian, Knight of Helm
Post by: Blue41 on August 14, 2011, 09:35:55 PM
Background: Marcus served as one of the Loyalist militia during the fateful last days of the Ziggurat. During the brief, tumultuous exile of the citizens of the colony by the Nightriser force, the emotion that remained most prominent in his mind was a deep and abiding hatred of the wildlings and stargazer savages that doomed them to their fate by freeing the witch.

A Helmite soldier with no particular knack for politics and no love for those that do, Marcus drifted for a time upon reaching Mistlocke before deciding to throw himself into the only work he knew how to do. He would keep Mistlocke protected from the outside world this time around. It was a second chance, and he wasn’t going to let anyone muck things up.

He would keep Mistlocke safe and sound, no matter what.

Along the way, he started to grow disillusioned as the moral exemplars of society around him failed in some way. Quilby, Farrovar, and various other paladins all had an impact in showing him that most folks- even the good- had a tendency to use the law, rather than act as the law worked through them.At some point, I thought it would expand on his character somewhat to lead by example, follow a stricter moral code and become a knight, one whose code would be sworn to his community, rather than a lord or superior officer. He was approved for the Knight PrC, but alas, it would never be.

He was the Stygian/investigator I never got a chance to make, and I had a lot of fun doing it. Props to all of the Muster, all of the criminals I tangled with, and so forth.

Some stuff.

The first lottery Killian witnessed.

One of the tenets of his knight's code involved respecting the dead, no desecration, etc. I carried a good number of bodies back to the Tower of the Gods, and even saw some last rites in action.

The last man down. Another part of the code involved never abandoning his comrades, and Marcus was the only Musterman casualty in our skirmish with the Rubies. One he carried to safety, the other he died defending.

I do hope you have enough inspiration left within you to create another character. I enjoyed my timed played with Marcus, and hope to see you in game soon enough :D

P.S. Bea will be sad.

I only saw him once, but he seemed interesting from that encounter.
