That's almost free! $10 less and I might start playing it on occasion. Until then LoL will have to do :(

I'll stick with League of Legends.
I plan on avoiding spending $10 on the less popular version of a game that I can get for free completely legally.

In the interest of dispelling the completely retarded view that popular = good, I will state for the record that HoN is actually a well-polished game that is essentially better than LoL in every imaginable way, and if you like the genre you are doing yourself a disservice by refusing to play $10 to upgrade to a superior game.

I was going to avoid this comparison but basically LoL = CoA, and HoN = EfU. One game is more popular and 'social' in nature, and the other is a clearly much more premium version of the same idea but less 'popular' because of the higher learning curve, despite the effort investing in learning it always paying dividends.

Quote from: CaddiesLoL's not fun because the unwashed masses like it.

User-friendliness is a feature not a bug, Caddies ;). Does HoN offer any sort of demo, because even £6 is too much to plonk down for a game that looks like it's going to take a weekend to learn to be merely half-competent at.

Buy it an add you so you can scream at me? No thanks!

I always disliked the rage wars and elitism in those games. Ever since DotA (Defense of the Ancients, a modified map for warcraft III, the progenitor of this genre of tower defense / hero combat) the idiots who scream or YELL at you over little things is incredibly annoying.

Those games, in my experience are an outlet for insecure teenagers who have too much tension in their hormone pumped bodies.

Both are good for their respective reasons. As someone who enjoys both games a lot, despite it's downfalls, HoN is worth the ten dollars.

If that is too expensive for you, I'm sure if you poke around gaming friends you can find someone who has a shared/extra account if you wanted to try it out. Additionally I'm pretty sure there guest passes and shit like that, and times where they offer the game free for a week.

I just want to clarify that I meant no personal attack in my above statement! It is just the kind of player I have encountered when playing with randoms.

Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends in my opinion are both nice if played amongst a group of friends or anyone who has some decency and general online etiquette. And thus I understand why you are recruiting from our wondrous EFU player base!

Allow me to illustrate the nature of the HoN community through a widely popular and I must say beautiful series by Angry Goran:
Nunu Bot 7: Welcome to HoN (//%22http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUeZTPFzsjk&feature=channel_video_title%22)

[Warning: contains obscenity! - but worth it! Edit: In retrospect, probably best to start with the first episode for the purposes of continuity: Nunubot (//%22http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoO_O5vHHqg&feature=channel_video_title%22)]
Be sure to watch the whole series, it is rather enjoyable if if you have ever played these games. It is basically a machinima satire series highlighting the ridiculous AI of the bots in game along with the nature of ",cooperative," gameplay involved.

As I said a few weeks ago, HON has officially gone free to play as of today.

There's always the option to mute, Aethereal.

Is it actually free now?
I might give it a try if they've given up on that ridiculous idea to make me pay them money.

It's free, although I can never play it because the lag is so hideous and it freezes constantly.

It's not my type of game either, for reasons Aethereal mentioned. As far as I know you can't mute the announcer voice loudly saying things like "Rage Quit" when someone gets disconnected or saying things like (player a) pwned (player b). LoL feels a bit more mature so I'll use that for the occasional times I just have that taste of blood in my mouth and have to kill something.
