Title: Beggar-Maker
Post by: Random_White_Guy on July 09, 2011, 06:22:26 AM
Liam Quinn had one goal: Bring some heavy handed scum and scoundrel style shadiness to EFU.

"Beggar-Maker", Thieve's Cant noun: A tavern owner. Liam was all about the idea of proliferating the scoundrel lifestyle and being a "Middle man". In a criminal story ther'es always that grim and dingy tavern that people went to when they had no other choice. That shady place malcontents shared stories and tricks of the trade. The bartender in those stories were usually that person people would come visit when they needed something and connections passed along.

What started as shady dice grew to some assassination contracts into a drugs and ultimately playing middleman for a handful of PC factions involved in shady activities. Not quite a follower, not quite a leader, but hands in a lot of pies as any proper rogue should.

I'm proud to say I reached that goal and wish to offer huge thanks to everyone involved in the shenanigans that lead us on the wild ride that is the criminal underworld.

Kappa Mao was created out of the back of my head out of boredom. The first four times I ran the game in the market hall I had no idea what the rules were I was just making them up as they went. The game had no name and there was no point in it but trying to trick people out of money.

But that was the point of Liam! He was a hustler and con man with a penchant for smuggling goods. After a few times of goign "Oh hey look you lost" and running away, things started to stick and set rools made. I developed many a game but none caught on with the Playerbase (PC and DM alike) more than Mystic Kappa Mao's Magical Seven.

For those who were always befuddled about the rules:

QuoteThree dice were rolled. The betting all hinged on the #7.

You won if you rolled all three dice and there was a seven amongst the dice, and your total was under ten.

You pushed if you rolled all three dice and the total was over ten with a seven somewhere amongst it.

You lost if there was no seven.

Example: 1, 4, 2 = Winner, your wager matched.

5, 2, 2 = Winner, Seven under ten, your wager matched.

5, 2, 6 = Tie, Push. There's a seven but your total over ten.

1, 2, 3 = No magical seven, loser, your wager lost.

Overtime it developed into a little game that over time grew into some huge stakes. While a fair few PC's liked to play for 5-10 coins a roll, at times there was the risky player who went for 50-100.

And then there was Gamblin' Bob. My arch nemesis. What was a hot-shot addicted gambler's plight to earn a quick buck off me turned into a bloody and ruthless grudgematch.

Our first meeting It started as a friendly game of 50, then grew to 500 or more.

Our second meeting it grew to up to 1,000 gold a hand

By our final meeting we were trading 500's, 1,000's, and the ultimately highest wager in Kappa Mao History.

"3,000 gold and I'll slit my wrists".

Liam grew to develop some maffioso feel for me and quickly turned into a guy I had to both be careful around and someone I should not dare to cross. Outstanding and exciting as ever RBaneG!

"3,000 gold and I'll slit my wrists".

Is it wrong that I can't stop laughing a that event.

Excellent character and very much a criminal element. Was a pleasure in our somewhat brief interactions.

Oh, and someone should take over hosting Mystic Kappa Mao's Magical Seven!
