Amaunator
Slavery, Monster Hunting, and everything in between!
In the pursuit of playing a proactive yet controversial spin on the Paladin Class I've come across a few stellar PCs with interest but would welcome anyone and everyone looking to get involved in some good ol' fashioned muckraking.
Given the age of the faith, and faith in General on EFU A wide array of strange, tribalistic superstitions have sprung up ICly and things are taking on a very "Cultish" vibe.
PCs are welcome to pursue endeavors that are not of the faith. While cultish it is not exclusionary. This (http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums/showthread.php?p=228662#post228662) can explain a lot of the IC things but OOCly there's a lot of wiggle room for PCs and more.
Amaunator was the Netherese deity of the Sun who many believed was a harsh but fair ruler, and many societies emulated such. Lawful to a T, but also a beneficiary to many, Churches of Amaunator existed side by side with honor-bound dictators and ruthless overseers...who were still in many ways considered good guys.
"Worshipers: Dictators, lawyers, nobles, rulers, those who use contracts, tyrants"
If that's the kind of crowd that interests you in hanging out with, find us IC!
I'm just curious. Why a dead god? There are plenty of gods out there that could suit this and you could even be heretical about it. Sometimes it feels like people know a bit too much about ancient dead gods that just happen to have temples in our temple district <_<
That is why it works, Naga. Heresy and veneration for Netherese deities is a staple of Ymphian society with a long history in both Old Port and Nebedzzos.
enough groundless smack talk, plz
Didn't sound like smack talk, Dan!
To answer your question though Naga -
There are cults around FR that are devoted to Amaunator but are getting sponsorship by Lathander covertly.
Lathander is seen mostly as a "Peaceful", "Hope-inspiring" deity, where as Amaunator is more Theocratic tyrant, and more, which fits in great with the idea of a Paladin Slaver. Basically I -could- have gone with Lathander, or one of the other countless paladin deities but Amaunator has a lot of flavor that Lathander doesn't.
As for dead deities, I think Amaunator is the only one in the temple district! Jergal is around, one was abandoned and is so again, Garagos is still alive, as is Chauntea. They are just old.
So yes. Dead deities don't have much following, and rightfully so! Amaunator had an early following but kinda got wiped off the server.
Aumanator, great deity, looks to be a cool interpretation and likely an awesome PC faction.

It was not meant as smack talk Dan. It was a question. I've just seen many of these things pop up in the past and I was curious as to what the attraction is towards them. I've yet to encounter any npc's venerating netherese deities in my time in efu so you'll have to forgive my ignorance there.
When I think of stuff like this deities like Helm and some a few deities from the mulhurandi pantheon come to mind. All of which strongly support both paladins, slavery and dictatorship.

I've never personally had much of an affinity for the Mulohand deities. More of an issue of never really looking into them, etc. Helm is a very cool deity, and has had a cool involvement in a lot of gruesome things (Maaztica, etc).
The attraction was more of a matter of bringing in something different. My PC personally is from the Anauroch, so I thought it would be the most reasonable place for a backwoods(desert?) cult with a bunch of superstitious mumbo-jumbo about a god many consider dead but still at times obtains power. Conveniently it's created a neat dichotomy with the current crop of Lathanderite PCs between savage/old vs. civilized/new styles.
Also I thought this was a group being created not an already existing one. I can see where offence could be taken, sorry my bad!
I thought you raised some fair questions. No worries!
Amaunator is simply amazing.
