It's a skill you take because it fits the concept you want to play.

Agreed. However, this particular skill does have some quirkiness associated with it, though, that in my opinion warrants some OOC knowledge. Take a look here: http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Parry

There is an abundance of support for Parry though, so it isn't terrible though completely defensive in its design.

From my understanding, you set your mode to parry. This causes you to stop attacking, but makes you less likely to get hit. You can reposte attacks and that is how you attack in this mode. I don't think parry stacks with any other kind of attack mode.

Parry builds are very doable at certain level ranges accessable on the server and certainly a way that dex based low str fighters can rock a bit. The feat is cool flavor, IMO.

Wrex got it right though, if you are going to use it, you have to know it. There are a few (big) quirks about it mechanically. It also helps to crunch the numbers a bit to know what you are shooting for. (ie, there are reasons why they added Improved Parry and SF Parry)

It is bugged yeah, but the serious  bugs only really come into play when the enemy has >4 attacks. Unless you're fighting a L9 dual wielding full BAB class or Monk, that's rare.

The basics for Parry:If you really want to know how to kick ass with it, talk to D_I or whoever played Bucheni. It's not great if your'e facing more than a couple of attackers, but after seeing it in action and playin with in int he campaign, I'd take it on a rogue or something for emergencies.

Ok, having recently played a fairly successful parry build here's what I can tell you:
1. Dual wield, you can only parry the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th attack per round.  However if you have three attacks and they only have two you will parry both.  Dual wielding is important because most enemies will have two attacks.
2. Try and take 13 INT, I forgot about improved parry, I managed without it but +4 is a big advantage on a feat.
3. You can heal and combat move without breaking parry.

Anything else you want clearing up that I might know, hit me up on IRC.

Only really viable on rangers and some other obscure multiclass builds.

Its horrible PvM, and only great in PvP if you don't expect to hurt them but want to not get hurt in return

Use to hold off the boss while your party shoots it from afar.
