Please revisit the loot table of this quest. I have been there a total of four or five times now and seen the completion rewards three times. The rewards have always proven to be rather pathetic. Avoiding specific examples, most surface quests offer better things at a reasonable rate without the huge amount of time and effort spent on the quest.
Almost everything found outside of of healing trinkets and potions, in my experience, was left behind due to it being "typical" or mundane. With the hype and talk that this quest receives from many DMs and the dedication it requires to complete, it should offer something valuable more often than not.
Also, the lore checks in this quest seem to be unchanged with the old identify change. Adjusting those might offer some slight incentive to go there more often.

Perhaps you got unlucky, but looking at these items its my honest opinion that they suit the quest well.
I've completed it twice and think you got unlucky. Not so much supplies found, but well worth powerfull items.
Sadly im with VP. I cant remember any "GOOD" item found there apart from consumables. Im sure they are there and yes maybe I too just got unlucky.
Completed it twice also. Not one decent item that I couldn't get elsewhere. IF there is fabled good loot maybe its drop chance needs to increase a bit so "bad luck" doesn't factor in so much.
I might touch things up a bit. The massive XP it gives though seems like rather a nice reward in and of itself though.
Massive XP bonus wont do much good if you loose 2 lvls doing it ;-).
I believe we were unlucky. I know some very nice stuff comes from this quest.

Problem really howland is you can do two other quests, in half the time, for the same xp. This might mean you want even further xp reduction on other quests, or just that the quest itself is not as rewarding as you think. <_<
The "other" quests are already very minimal all around at any level capable of doing SE.
